Your College Admissions Theme Song

<p>American Dreaming by Jay Z</p>

<p>For some reason the theme song to “Jaws” came to mind for me. That’s how I’d probably feel when reading the email notification</p>

<p>Oh! I got another good one!</p>

<p>Que Sera, Sera </p>

<p>Here is the chorus:</p>

<p>Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.</p>

<p>The Jaws and Lennon were top notch ideas.</p>

<p>"And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let’s stop all the fight "</p>

<p>LOL diversity!</p>

<p>“The sun will come out tomorrow.”- From the Annie Musical. </p>

<p>I don’t like musicals in general but I liked this song when I was a kid.</p>

<p>To westsidewolf:</p>

<p>Peace of Mind is almost like self-mocking as an admission song. Just look at the first lines</p>

<p>“So you’ve climbed up to the top of the company ladder
hope it didn’t take too long
but you’ll see there’ll come a day where it won’t matter
come a day where you’ll be wrong.”</p>

<p>Essentially, it’s saying, “Way to go wasting all your energy applying to hard schools when you could have just settled for State U and still lived a happy life.”</p>

<p>I’m not feeling it. In fact, I kind of have a general distaste for Boston after that analysis.</p>

<p>exactly…jk i just thought of it while i was typing and wrote it down. besides where did lead guitarist and band founder/revolutionary guy in guitar sound, Tom Scholz, go to college? MIT and majored in EE, then quit his senior design job at polaroid to make his living making music.</p>

<p>Tom Scholz is from my hometown: Toledo, Ohio! Yeah, he got a bachelor’s and master’s from MIT in EE.</p>

<p>“Don’t Panic” by Coldplay kind of fits my frantic, desperate mood right now, I have to say. D:</p>

<p>Oh, we’re sinking like stones,
All that we fought for,
All those places we’ve gone,
All of us are done for. </p>

<p>We live in a beautiful world,
Yeah we do, yeah we do,
We live in a beautiful world,
Oh, we’re sinking like stones,
All that we fought for,
All those places we’ve gone,
All of us are done for. </p>

<p>We live in a beautiful world,
Yeah we do, yeah we do,
We live in a beautiful world. </p>

<p>Oh, all that I know,
There’s nothing here to run from,
And there, everybody here’s got somebody to lean on.</p>

<p>Mine is so definitely “Lazy Eye” by The Silversun Pickups. Key Lyrics (some cut for brevity):</p>

<p>I’ve been waiting
i’ve been waiting for this moment all my life
but it’s not quite right </p>

<p>and this ‘real’
it’s impossible if possible
at who’s blind word
so clear but so unheard </p>

<p>i’ve been waiting
i’ve been waiting for this silence all night long
it’s just a matter of time </p>

<p>everyone’s so intimately rearranged
everyone can focus clearly with such shine </p>

<p>everyone’s so intimately rearranged
everyone can focus clearly with that shine </p>

<p>i’ve been waiting
i’ve been waiting for this moment…</p>

<p>My rejection song is “The Show must go on” by Queen:</p>

<p>Empty spaces - what are we living for?
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score…
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are looking for?</p>

<p>Another hero - another mindless crime.
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime.
Hold the line!
Does anybody want to take it anymore?
The Show must go on!
The Show must go on!
Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up may be flaking,
But my smile, still, stays on!</p>

<p>Whatever happens, I’ll leave it all to chance.
Another heartache - another failed romance.
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess i’m learning
I must be warmer now…
I’ll soon be turning round the corner now.
Outside the dawn is breaking,
But inside in the dark I’m aching to be free!</p>

<p>The Show must go on!
The Show must go on! Yeah!
Ooh! Inside my heart is breaking!
My make-up may be flaking!
But my smile, still, stays on!
Yeah! oh oh oh</p>

<p>My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies,
Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die,
I can fly, my friends!</p>

<p>The Show must go on! Yeah!
The Show must go on!
I’ll face it with a grin!
I’m never giving in!
On with the show!</p>

<p>I’ll top the bill!
I’ll overkill!
I have to find the will to carry on!
On with the,
On with the show!</p>

<p>The Show must go on.</p>

<p>That was written about Freddy Mercury dieing from AIDS, but i guess gettig nrejected from college is an appropriate use lol</p>

<p>I agree with whomever said “This Year” by the Mountain Goats. Not only are they my favorite band (as evidenced by my user name), but the song perfectly depicts the milieux of senior year.</p>

<p>Or maybe “Now, We Just Slowly Circle the Draining Fish Bowl” by the Paper Chase.</p>

<p>Or maybe one of the songs from “Gravity’s Rainbow,” because they make me feel all warm inside.</p>

<p>On a happier note, my song’s been the OK Go version of “This Will Be Our Year”:</p>

<p>You don’t have to worry,
All your worry days are gone.
And this will be our year,
Took a long time to come</p>

<p>Some other selections from my college applications playlist:</p>

<p>“It Won’t Be Long” by the Beatles</p>

<p>Ev’ry night when ev’rybody has fun,
Here am I sitting all on my own,
It won’t be long yeh, yeh,
It won’t be long yeh, yeh,
It won’t be long yeh, yeh,
Till I belong to you.</p>

<p>“A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left” by Andrew Bird</p>

<p>“The Wait” by Built to Spill</p>

<p>You wait
You wait
You wait for August, then you wait for May
You wait
You wait
You wait to get up, then you wait to play
You wait
You wait
You wait for something, that’ll make the waiting worth the wait
You wait
You wait
You wait </p>

<p>And she says patience, patience, Darling
Patience, patience, it will come</p>

<p>Directed at those who BRING the admit/reject letters: “Please, Mr. Postman” (Beatles)</p>

<p>And even though I try to be as honest as I can in my apps. . . it is all kind of a “three ring circus” as Billy Flynn would say. (This is from Chicago the musical)</p>

<p>BILLY(Spoken)
Roxie, you got nothing to worry about.
It’s all a circus, kid. A three ring circus.
These trials- the wholeworld- all show business.
But kid, you’re working with a star, the biggest!</p>

<p>(Singing)
Give 'em the old razzle dazzle
Razzle Dazzle 'em
Give 'em an act with lots of flash in it
And the reaction will be passionate
Give 'em the old hocus pocus
Bead and feather 'em
How can they see with sequins in their eyes?</p>

<p>What if your hinges all are rusting?
What if, in fact, you’re just disgusting?</p>

<p>Razzle dazzle 'em
And they;ll never catch wise!</p>

<p>Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle</p>

<p>BILLY AND COMPANY
Razzle dazzle 'em
Give 'em a show that’s so splendiferous</p>

<p>BILLY
Row after row will crow vociferous</p>

<p>BILLY AND COMPANY
Give 'em the old flim flam flummox
Fool and fracture 'em</p>

<p>BILLY
How can they hear the truth above the roar?</p>

<p>BILLY AND COMPANY
Throw 'em a fake and a finagle
They’ll never know you’re just a bagel,</p>

<p>BILLY
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they’ll beg you for more!</p>

<p>BILLY AND COMPANY
Give 'em the old double whammy
Daze and dizzy 'em
Back since the days of old Methuselah
Everyone loves the big bambooz-a-ler</p>

<p>Give 'em the old three ring circus
Stun and stagger 'em
When you’re in trouble, go into your dance</p>

<p>Though you are stiffer than a girder
They’ll let you get away with murder
Razzle dazzle 'em
And you’ve got a romance</p>

<p>COMPANY(The same time as BILLY’s)
Give 'em the old
Razzle Dazzle</p>

<p>BILLY
Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle
Razzle dazzle 'em
Show 'em the first rate sorceror you are
Long as you keep 'em way off balance
How can they spot you’ve got no talents
Razzle Dazzle 'em</p>

<p>BILLY AND COMPANY
Razzle Dazzle 'em
Razzle Dazzle 'em</p>

<p>And they’ll make you a star!</p>

<p>davnasca, post 43: Yes! My latin teacher sings that constantly, whenever he isn’t teaching. That will be my “one week after rejection/deferral” song.</p>

<p>katia11: Totally!</p>

<p>On Friday while waiting for the email: “Kashmir” Led Zeppelin and “Army of Me” Bjork</p>

<p>Rejection (overall feeling of dejection): “The Show Must Go On” Queen; “Helter Skelter” Beatles; some Pink Floyd; “Wooden Ships,” “Eskimo Blue Sky,” and “Today” Jefferson Airplane; “Wicked Game” Chris Isaak; “Hemorrhage” Fuel; Stravinsky; “Pathetique” Tchaikovsky</p>

<p>Deferral (overall feeling of <em>twitch</em> <em>twitch</em>): “Army of Me” Bjork; “Would You Like A Snack?” and “House at Pooneil Corner” Jefferson Airplane; “Deja Vu” Crosby Stills Nash and Young</p>

<p>Acceptance (freakout): I’d be yelling too loudly to hear any music :). Perhaps “Woodstock” Crosby Stills Nash and Young</p>

<p>Baby Got Back</p>

<p>duh…</p>

<p>In all honesty, if I get accepted, I’ll probably go headbang to something like Guerrilla Radio by Rage Against the Machine. Music by Harvard grads ftw.</p>

<p>Well since Northwestern went and gone breakin my heart unlike what Elton John said, my song now is “Don’t Stop Believing” for the others.</p>

<p>Another song. Call me lame, but it’s from “A Goofy Movie”, though possibly one of the coolest Disney songs out there. Sung in the movie by an animated “Prince”-like singer Powerline. Sung in real life by Tevin Campbell.</p>

<p>Stand Out - something we have to do to get in.
This one is more obscure though.</p>

<p>Open up your eyes take a look at me
If the picture fits in your memory
I’ve been dreamin by the rythym like the beat of a heart
And i won’t stop until I start to stand out</p>

<p>Some people settle for the typical thing
Livin’ all their lives waitin’ in the wings
It ain’t a question of ‘if’, just a matter of time
Before I move to the front of the line</p>

<p>And once you’re watchin’ ev’ry move that I make
Ya gotta believe that I got what it takes</p>

<p>(Chorus)
To stand out
Above the crowd
Even if I gotta shout out loud
'Til mine is the only face you see
Gonna stand out 'til you notice me</p>

<p>If the squeaky wheels always gettin the greese
I’m totally devoted to disturbin the peace
And I’ll do it all again, when I get it done
Until I become your number one</p>

<p>No method to the madness and means of escape
Gonna break every rule I’ll bend them all out of shape
It ain’t a question of ‘how’ just a matter of when
You get the message that I’m tryin to send</p>

<p>I’m under a spell, I’m in over my head
And you kno I’m going all of the way, till the end</p>

<p>To stand out
Above the crowd
Even if I gotta shout out loud
'Til mine is the only face you see
Gonna stand out 'til you notice me, yeah</p>

<p>If I could make you stop and take a look at me instead of just
Walkin’ by
There’s nothin’ that I wouldn’t do
If it was gettin’ you to notice
I’m alive</p>

<p>All I need is half a chance, a second thought, a second glance’ll prove
I got whatever it takes
It’s a piece of cake</p>

<p>To stand out
Above the crowd
Even if I gotta shout out loud
'Til mine is the only face you see
Gonna stand out
Stand out, hey
Stand out!
(Yeah, yeah, yeah!)
Stand out!
(Hmph!)
'Til mine’s the only face you see
Gonna stand out
'Til you notice me</p>

<p>Um…Soulja Boy. Duh.</p>
