'Your Day On Campus' Program 2013

Has anyone attended this program in the past? I am wondering if it is worth heading to PA to attend. Hotel and some travel are covered and it is by invitation only, so that seems good…
But Pitt had not been on my radar and I am not sure how much you really learn from ‘dog and pony’ shows vs. standard tours then just hanging around campus more freely talking to students (as we usually do).

Any insight would be appreciated.

We went to a similar program last year and absolutely loved Pitt. We were pleasantly surprised by the campus. It also was not on our radar. A guidance counselor recommended taking a look. We had lunch with an admissions officer, received a conditional acceptance the same day with no application fee. As a caveat, my daughter chose to attend another school for financial reasons, but we were glad we had an opportunity to visit Pitt. Run the cost calculator to see if they are within range of what you can afford.

I would suggest that you do some research to see if Pitt might indeed be a school that interests you. If it does I would certainly make the trip. I can tell you that my son had no intention of attending Pitt, he didn’t like “city” schools and he didn’t even want to visit but felt obligated because we are “in state”. He visited and Pitt became one of his top three schools - ultimately his #1. The best piece of advise we received was from an admission rep at another school who told the visitors that you need to visit every school you might be interested in, you need to see if you can picture yourself on that campus and you need to see how long it takes to get there and back from home - only then can you make an informed decision. Good luck in your search.

hsgrad, May I ask how you obtain one of these special invites?

Note sure why I received it. School counselor mentioned that it would be a good fit but it was otherwise not on my radar. The invitation came via email. My friend tried to sign up to go, but was told it was by invitation only.
I can tell you that I am from out of state (far) and Pitt is not a school people around here talk about at all. Geographic recruiting perhaps?
