Your favorite cold places to imagine on hot days

Too hot out? Picture yourself at a hockey rink without a sweatshirt. Or remember the scene in Titantic when the heroine is sloshing through freezing North Atlantic sea water to find a way to free her chained up lover. Ever see sled team dogs gulp down chunks of frozen fish?

Where is the coldest place you’ve been? Feel cooler yet?

Minsk (Belarus)… Mid January! The bears in the zoo were wearing coats!!! :D

hah - laughing cottonwood, cause I see you live in Chicago (which I just visited this weekend) and I KNOW that you, like us this week are sweating out this heat!!!

The coldest place I’ve been? One thing that comes to mind is the walk in freezer at the ice cream shop I worked at as a teenager. Along the same lines, thinking of REALLY cold makes me think of my hands some days after dipping cone after cone after cone! Sometimes it was painful!

cottonwood, picture Seattle on a mid-July morning: temperature in the mid-50s, foggy, folks in boots and trench coats… Send us some of your heat, please!

A cold room where we had to do some of our experiments… We were kidding that we needed fur-lined lab coats. Someone brought their grandma’s old rabbit fur coat as a joke - we actually used it!

Or how about this place: [Life Is a Chilling Challenge in Subzero Siberia](<a href=“National Geographic”>National Geographic)

Norway! The mountains, the fjords, the 65-70 degree summer weather.

The fresh produce section of Costco! Brrrrrrrrr!!!

My backyard in February!

I don’t like cold places. But, having endured about 17 days straight of triple digits in Texas, the memory of our vacation to the Broadmoor last month, sitting in front of the fireplace by the lake having a nice glass of wine, has me longing for the mountains of Colorado right now.

There is a giant natural underground spring with a large swimming hole at the springhead that feeds a river near my home. The water in the spring is 72 degrees year round. Swimming in the spring when it is 100 degrees outside here is like a Nestea plunge with lots of ice.

It may not have been the coldest place I’ve ever been, but boy did it feel cold. The Rust Hull Mine in Hibbing, MN. One of the largest open pit iron mines in the world, 535 feet deep. The day we were there it was something like 92 at the surface and 45 down at the bottom. The change was dramatic.

Ha - Jym - you beat me to it! I don’t know why it is SO cold in there, but I actually dread going in there. I scurry in and out as quickly as possible! But thanks to this thread, now I’ll think of that spot once the heat moves eastward this week :)

I don’t try to do that. The reality is that the heat won’t last- in January we will be wishing for July…

City by the Bay…At the main cable car access points - June - August… Watching all the tourists in their shorts and tank tops shivering…Okay… so I have a evil side.

Watch Ice Road Truckers!

Galveston bay. That place forced me to get in the water. Beaches in California are too cold for me.

Weds and Thurs are projected to be the worst days here. Ahhh, the Candlemas Blizzard 2/2/2011 … the refreshing wind that blew all that snow sideways for hours and hours before it landed in a heap.

Ice Road Truckers? Sounds like an adventure!

CC meetup in the Costco freezer.

Conference Room A in my office! We joke that we should provide parkas to our guests. I change out of open toe shoes before I go into a meeting there.

Ice Road Truckers isn’t cold: that’s edge of death freezing in five minutes.

Sinner’s Happy Hour today in the Costco freezer. Bring your penguins.

AAhhh…back to the cool places. Watching the aurora borealis from a polar bear’s back. Have any parents been to the Artic circle or the Antartic station?
