I miss pleated front pants that sit at the waist. Perfect for camouflaging my protruding stomach. I also miss pockets. The deep pockets of yesteryear, not the shallow pockets some styles have today.
And yes, I loved padded shoulders. That era was the only time I looked good. My shoulders are so narrow, combined with narrow hips and no waist, that the padded shoulder made me look more balanced. Lightly padded mind you. I’m still waiting for them to come back. They were in in the 40s, then the 80s, isn’t it time???
I’m wondering if skinny jeans and longer tops are going out. It was an extension of the leggings with below the rear/mid-thigh tops which happens to be a particularly flattering look on my body type. I’m seeing less of them.
Capris? I’m not sure because, not only would they not look good on me (too wide and they cut the leg) but they weren’t my style.
I remember padded shoulders being a pain when you were ironing, but they definitely improved my looks as I had no bust. Still don’t have much of one, but babies did improve that part of my figure!
I don’t miss the pants with straps under your feet!
I do miss my Ralph Lauren corderoy skirt with buttons down the front and ruffled bottom. One of the few sewing projects I finished and looked as good as the picture!
Forgot to mention that I loved those shoulder pads…I think so much comes down to body type. Big shoulders and a sheath or skinny/straight anything from the waist down is most flattering on me. Bring them back!
@FlyMeToTheMoon …yes, it’s 40 years, time for shoulder pads again. I also liked pleated pants, I wouldn’t mind seeing a comeback. I also mentioned on another thread I wish Banana combs would come back as I’m tired of ponytails and messy buns.
One thing I’d love to see go out of style is jeans with rips/tears in them and frayed hems. That style (?) just drive me nuts. I don’t understand buying them that way. If I wanted that look, I just rip an old pair of jeans. really had to bit my tongue when my daughter wore a pair recently. The kindest comment I could come up with was–why do you like those? And, that was clearly snarky.
I love 3/4 sleeves. I hope they never go out. I have short arms so long sleeves are too long, and I have super fat upper arms so short sleeves are not flattering.
I had no idea that capris were no longer in style. I don’t wear them anyway because I am short and fat and they are not flattering on me, but I like the look on other people. (Actually, I do have some knit, draw-string capris that I wear around the house in hot weather.)
I live in fear that very long cardigans will go out. I have a “hip/thigh” issue that long cardigans (not faddy ones with asymmetrical hems or belts or anything like that) really help deal with. Especially love pocketed ones, so I can stick my dry erase markers or keys or glasses in while teaching. They’ve been particularly available the last few years, so I stocked up. Don’t need to buy new clothes this year, so I don’t know if they are still around. But still motivated by my inner hoarder to keep buying, just in case.
clogs, especially Merrell clogs in different materials were my go to casual shoes for years, but I think they’ve been out of style for quite some time now.
Now that I’ve finally gotten rid of many of my wider leg pants (keeping. straight and skinny legs), chances are wider legs will be back.
Anyone remember Danskins, from WAAYYY back in the late 70s and early 80s?
Belts. (With jeans, etc.) It’s not like they out and out out of style, but the style is to go without. For me, the belt not only adds some polish, it does a job!
@gardenstategal my very trendy 20 year old daughter and her friends all have an assortment of belts that they wear all of the time.
@toledo I’d say the Uggs were around well before 2003, which is when I bought my first pair to wear to Ukraine in the winter to adopt our daughter. I haven’t seen them around for quite a while though;)
I found capris that cinch below the knee (or at least are more fitted below the knee) are far more flattering than those that just look like pants that are cut short. Still wear them. Look better than shorts on me. So I find them at resale shops instead of department stores.
Oddly, shorts that have a slight flare look better than “bermuda” length shorts. Think men’s boxers.
Wish shoulder pads would come back too. It balances my huge hips. Plus I have a very favorite coat I still have not donated, but won’t wear because of the shoulder pads
Capris, all versions, are staples here in AZ. Everyone wears them. All the time.
I still have a bag of velcro shoulder pads for that moment they become popular again. I also have a bag of those silk “MBA ties” we wore with our Oxford pinpoint button-downs in the 80s. In fact, I think I still have most of my Dress for Success clothing. Hey, that stuff was expensive!
I generally don’t pay much attention to fashion anymore, so I’m probably wearing things on others’ wish-they’d-come-back list, so maybe I’m just an early adopter of revival style.
