I have been wearing capris since they returned to fashion about 20 years ago (they had been big in the 50s & 60s). A great solution for the hot summer weather, without wearing shorts and showing my old lady knees. Well, this year it seems that capris are no longer in style - except for legging/yoga pants. I don’t want them to work out in, I just want them instead of shorts to walk around in when it is hot out.
What fashion trend that you loved has disappeared?
Thank goodness capris are going out, ha. I don’t know what it is about my body, but they look horrible on me. Doesn’t matter if I am at my goal weight or not.
I just looked at the Nordstrom website. There are lots of capris for sale. Wear what you like and what looks good on you. Bah humbug on fashion trends.
I think the spirit of the thread is identifying trends you liked but have left the fashion scene or shelves - like you would have difficulty finding them. Not whether you want to buck the trends and keep wearing what you like (which is totally fine too).
I think of “capri” as a bottom length that falls below the knee but well above the ankle. At the ankle to me is cropped - which I think is still cool. Like a 7/8 length.
I’m going to think on this question - I’m sure I’ll come up with something!
Lace. Not the cheapo, synthetic underwearish-looking overlay that was seen on every dress for a while, but the beautiful crocheted lace like the kind Lily Pulitzer used.
After seeing that Crest toothpaste commercial, I see Ugg boots have been around for 10 years. I need to get rid of mine, which is o.k., as they have not arch support.
Are maxi dresses “out”? I have a couple I kind of like, one of which I bought last year.
@fendrock I assume at some point broad shoulders will seep back into fashion. They were a trend back in the 40’s (just look at old pictures of Joan Crawford), before making their comeback in the 80s. If we think every 40 years - they should be due back any day now!
I understand scrunchies are back, although I’ve been using them all along. They are the most comfortable and least damaging way to pull my hair back. And my hair is now the longest in years, albeit not the longest ever.
In general I ignore fashion trends, although midi dresses are one of the styles that really can look wrong when out of style, as do shoulder pads. I’ve lived through every skirt length and my closet reflects that. But no one really cares around here fortunately so I can wear what I like. Especially now.
I doubt they have been in style for decades, they are pants for older women that don’t wear shorts. You can pretty much guarantee that anything you see worn at a PTA meeting is no longer fashionable.
@toledo Maxi dresses are still very in! I got this one for summer that I haven’t worn yet with quarantine, but I’m going to wear it out with cute espadrilles in less than 2 weeks when H and I go to dinner for our 30th wedding anniversary. With all the walking I’ve been doing (40 miles a week) and losing a few pounds this style actually looks pretty good on this 60 year old. https://www.lulus.com/products/getaway-red-floral-print-pleated-tiered-maxi-dress/1064962.html
I was just lamenting the disappearance of lower rise chino shorts! I don’t like binding clothing (especially for an active summer) but also would rather not wear yoga/gym clothes as street clothes. For mid-rise and high-rise, if I get the size that fits in the waist, the rest is baggy and doesn’t look neat.
I am wearing out my J.Crew shorts from 2014 or so. So glad I can still get lower rise, boot cut jeans (thank you Levi’s).
