Bought some Anne Klein yoga slacks from Sam’s Club @ 4.91 apiece (marked price $59.99). They are comfortable & fine for “knocking around” as well as pjs–unbeatable price. Sister bought some too & will be hemming them to be capris, which are her favorites (they drag on the ground so something needs to be done in any case).

Ok nngmm that is too weird for me. I owner how they decide value and authenticate? They could be sending you a random lock of anyones hair…too strange.

I’ve been doing way too much shopping recently–itching for some new spring dresses, and waiting for a few online orders to arrive. I went home this weekend (the beginning of reading week) to celebrate my birthday early, and shopped at the mall twice in two days.

Today I went with my mother and tried on a bunch of regular-price dresses from Anthropologie, without looking at the price tags… none of them were really outstanding, though. At the last minute, I tried on a silk dress that had been hanging around on the sale rack for at least a month, not moving, still only marked down to “first cut.” Since it was my birthday, I decided to buy it to mull over whether it was worth $90. Anthro has a great unlimited return policy.

HOWEVER–when we got to the register, the dress rung up as $30! For a lined 100% silk dress from Anthro! Original price was nearly $200. But for some reason, none of the tags (there were several different sizes on the sale rack) had been marked with the new discount.

Bob’s clothing store gives 10.00 coupons for every 100.00 spent and I got a pair of sweatpants today for 1.00 with that.
I bought a nice rain jacket for my girls from LL Bean,20.00 after finding an online 20% coupon, site coupon and free shipping.
A cardigan from Gap was a good deal (10.00)with 30% off and a 10.00 “you earned it coupon” for using my charge too much. : )

Was agonizing over transportation options for Denver & finally decided to rent a car from the airport, drive to our appointment & downtown to check in at the hotel & then return the car in the same day. The rental for all of this is UNDER $30 for an intermediate car! Best of all, the Avis rental place is only a few blocks from our hotel, so H can walk back after he returns the car. Am very happy about all of this! We will not have to pay parking, as we just need to get to our appointment & then to our hotel–hotel parking is $15, I believe. The actual price may be even lower after the discount is applied!

The cost of a car service is $55-66+ and tip. SuperShuttle has been given mixed reviews for the area as well. May use a hired car to get us back to the airport–will have to see how it turns out. The hotel has NO shuttles going to/from the hotel.

I purchased a beautiful Calvin Klein dress for D at TJMaxx. Business tailored, dove gray, looks wonderful on her. It will work well for some upcoming events, and then for Mock Trial in the fall. She can use her black suit jacket over it if needed. The best part is she tried it on just to make me happy and ended up really liking it! They had a nice selection in smaller sizes (2/4).

Just ordered flowers for Mother’s Day through ProFlowers. “Premium Grower’s Choice” bouquet (regularly $39.95), glass vase & box of chocolates with Friday delivery for $36.90!! :)

On Sunday I got a call from a friend —a local arts group was doing a tag sale to raise funds—she was holding onto something for me since she knew that my D is a classical singer and could always use a great gown. She had a hand made, couture Bob Mackie, silk charmeuse goddess gown. I walked out of the sale with it for $40, seemed kind of steep for a used dress until I found out that I can sell it on Ebay for around $800-$1200. That is, AFTER D takes it to Europe this summer. I need to give that arts group another $40.

HImom - what car rental company is this with? We wanted to do something similar in SF (rent car at SF airport, spend a few days s. of SF, drop car in downtown SF near our hotel when we got back to the city (for the rest of our vacation), rather than having to take it back to the airport), but it would have cost MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS extra to drop the car off at a downtown location rather than return it to the airport. Ridiculous! I called several different companies, and while the charges varied a bit, they were all in at least the $200 range, some more.
So we dropped the kids and luggage at the hotel, then the hubster and I drove through SF traffic to get the damned car back to the airport then took the BART back to downtown.
Ridiculous - it’s not like we were wanting to drop off the car in the middle of some cornfield somewhere - we’re talking downtown San Francisco, for pete’s sake!

MomCat2 we rented at car at the SF airport, used it for the day, returned it to the rental agency at Fisherman’s Wharf and did not incur large charges. I know downtown and Fisherman’s Wharf are not the same spot, but they aren’t far apart either. $200 is crazy! I’ll have to find out which agency we used and post later.

Mom2M - How long ago was this, and I’d be interested to know which agency. 6 years ago when I made pretty much the same trip w/ my mom and sis, we dropped the car off downtown (Union Sq/Nob Hill) a few blocks from our hotel w/ no extra fee. When I mentioned this to the agencies I spoke with this year (March) they said the policy had changed. None of them were willing to waive the huge and ridiculous extra charge.

MomCat2 It was last summer, we used Budget (sorry for the delay, I had to call DH). We did drop the car at Fisherman’s Wharf, not downtown(Union Sq/Nob Hill). I have to say Budget is not the most efficent agency we have ever dealt with, the airport pick up took longer than expected, but overall it was a good experience. And the money difference was substantial.

I went to Costco.com and used Avis (the 25% off bottom right hand corner coupon). It was a great price & promises an even lower rate when the coupon is applied when I get the car.

Often, with Hertz, there is no drop charge if you pick up at one location & return to a different one (tho sometimes their rates are so much higher, it still isn’t worth it). For some reason, my AAA office has an agent who will try to match or beat whatever low car rental rate I get elsewhere. I get the printed reservation from any major car company, email it to her & she will try to get Hertz to match so she gets whatever commission & I get a Hertz rental. It works fine for both of us.

I also often use Dollar and try for the federal government leisure rate, which is generally quite reasonable & can be lower than other rates I can find, tho sometimes the AAA or Costco rate is lower. Much depends on how much energy one is willing to invest in finding a good/great rental rate.

Musicamusica, only $40 donation? The sale of the gown will help subsidize the entire trip for your child! That’s a great story–and what a treasure of a friend!

We ended up going w/ Hertz (got a pretty good price through the Amer.Airllines freq flier program + AAA discount (maybe)) and schlepping the car back to the airport. I called +/or checked on line with at least 2 or 3 other companies and they ALL were going to charge an arm and a leg to drop off the car downtown near our hotel. Pretty sure I talked to Avis or Budget, if not both of them.

This may be a fairly recent thing - the car rental companies must have decided to be like the airlines and gouge the public w/ extra fees for every damned thing!
