Toledo, I can block EBay from my email, but still access it easily through IE or Google if I want to browse or Oder something. The emails just end up in my spam folder…which is where they belong.
Being specific…I just checked…I’ve gotten five emails in the last two weeks “we want you back. Here is a $10 coupon for an EBay purchase”. Then they include a list of items related to those I have looked at recently on eBay.
I find it very annoying…and I do not think its a good marketing tool to spam your customers frequently. Kohls does the same thing…they are going to spam. Amazon too.
I don’t need these vendors telling me to shop. I’m fully capable of making my own decisions when and where to look.
If you offer “free” shipping, make sure to exclude international buyers (and no to returns). Kiddo learned it the hard way - it cost her $60 to ship the coat she sold to a buyer in Brazil.
Nre, that is a good tip, but I do have the preferences set up to a minimum communication. These eBay emails are a new thing. I was thinking their profits must have been slipping…
There is A LOT of counterfeit high end merchandise on ebay. A lot! And some of the items fetch premium prices. Even a non-expert like me can see the stuff is fake from looking at the pictures. Ebay is losing out to people who set up their own online stores with at least some vetting of authenticity.
I buy things from ebay infrequently, perhaps once every couple of months and don’t get any unsolicited mail from them. I’m pretty sure I remember going into my preferences (as notrichenough mentions a few posts up) and marking my preference for NOT receiving those kinds of communications. Hopefully that will work for those of you who hare receiving spam. I don’t order often but I love the deals I do get on ebay.
So for the eBay experts on here, where do you buy all your boxes and shipping supplies? Do you have any tips? I have been tempted to sell on eBay but that has always been my hangup. And how many returns have you had to accept? Did you get your item back or is that part of the risk of doing eBay?
Could we maybe start an EBay thread? I keep thinking there is some good buy being posted…but it’s all about how to sell on eBay! That would make a great thread of its own!
There used to be services that “consign” eBay sales for you, but they seem to have all vanished here. I would gladly pay someone a percentage of the sale to post, pack, and ship for me. I’d like to downsize, but the task seems overwhelming, and frankly I’d rather spend my time on other things. Anyone know of similar services in their area?
I use it a lot to ship stuff. Not so much to watch videos that come with the prime account since I do not have much time for TV, so hopefully someone else would comment on that. One feature that I found very useful is Amazon Prime Pantry - for additional $6 flat shipping, you can assemble a “basket” of things that normally would not be economical to ship, like a single tube of toothpaste, roll of TP, jar of pasta sauce, etc. The Pantry fits a lot of things and tells you when it is “full”. It is a great deal even though it costs a little extra to ship.
My good buy of the day - a perfect Italian-made Max Mara suit! Assembled from sale pieces I found online. I gambled a bit by comparing how fabrics looked on my screen and by reading fabric content description. Pants, dress, skirt, and jacket matched! Yay me. And the best part - not a single alteration needed.
Agree with Bunsen about usefulness of Amazon Prime for shipping, especially during the holiday season where non-Prime shipments slow down. That is not a statement against Amazon as I feel that most ground shipments slow during holiday b/c of all the corporate guaranteed two-day shipments. Amazon must be losing money on shipping still.
@BunsenBurner – must post photos of Max Mara suit pieces. I love their coats but I don’t believe I have actually bought one. Where will you be wearing this beautiful clothing?
Let me look them up on my computer! They were the last piece kind of deals, so some links might be outdated. I will post what I will find. Agree, Max Mara coats are fantastic (too bad I have zero use for them in my rainy climate), and their clothing is amazing, too. It is usually very well tailored, and the fabrics are wonderful.
@DebmomNY My daughter got it free for 6 months as a college student and used it to buy text books online.
I am aware of the two day shipping but we didn’t use it for anything beyond that.
The Amazon Prime sounds interesting to send care packages to college.
I would like to renew my Prime membership early with the deal, but it doesn’t end until May and I don’t see how to renew it at the sale price to have it begin when my current one expires. Does anybody know how?
Can’t find the skirt, but it looks like the bottom part of the dress - with ruching on the side.
I paid nowhere near these prices! I got all 4 pieces for just under the (retail) price of the jacket. The pieces came from 4 different sources, both domestic and foreign. These will be used for meetings that call for formal clothing.
