Sooo⊠update on all the challenges with Rue La La⊠My bracelet that finally arrived with office staffâs gifts, after getting lost en route, Dec 23, broke Jan 18. They sent me a return label that apparently sends first through USPS and then gets picked up by Fedex (they donât initially tell you which carrier but I have had to call them multiple times and they filled me inâŠ) So, I took it to USPS Tues 1/20 (was closed 1/19 for MLK day). SIX days later is STILL sitting at the USPS waiting to be picked up by âoutside carrierâ (took 3 days for them to log it in as âready to be picked upâ and another 3 for it to be picked up.) Then another THREE days before âoutside carrierâ logs it into their system. So, it finally shows this morning as âin transitâ , to go a whopping 286 miles back to the return center. I could have walked it there by now. This is not due to the weather issues as we were unaffected.
So here we are, 10 days later and its still not back the return center 2 states away. And, they promised theyâd put the item on the âwatchâ list and notify me if it came back and was available. Well, I spotted it yesterday and called today. Of course they hadnât notified me. So, They gave me a $30 discount and will also credit my shipping so will be essentially a $40 credit on the replacement (actually I had to repurchase it as they claim my return was in their system to credit back to my credit card). It wonât ship for 2 weeks so I should have my credit for the old one. They claim no one else has had a problem with the bracelet⊠Who knows. I decided to give it another chance and hope this one doesnât break. However, if this one also breaks and falls off like the other, theres a chance I could not notice and lose it. Hopefully not.
The one thing they did catch is when I reordered it apparently it had the last address on file as my sâs gfs address in another city! Oops! Almost sent her my bracelet! Good thing they caught it and changed the address in their system. Stay tunedâŠ

Xiggi, I just bought a 6 qt refurbished lift bowl KA mixer from Overstock in Dec. For whatever reason, the price can various colors. My daughter has used it almost every day since and loves it. I am pretty sure the box said refurbished on it though, if that sort of thing matters to your sister.
^ Thanks for all the comments. The refurbished does not matter to my sister. My parents have one of the largest KA and their experience has only been so-so. The speed control device is a rather flimsy affair and it needed to be replaced after a few uses (over 2 years.) Inasmuch as KitchenAid replaced it for a reasonable price, the mixer does not handle heavy loads very well and heats up rapidly. The fear with the refurbished is that one does not know WHY a unit was returned, and we can safely assume that the units are not checked by KA for being a possible lemon. Again, the one my parents bought surely was one of the few ones made by KA every year. Most people raved about the quality of the KA, but the reality is that the parts that are inside the head are not necessarily of the highest quality.
It is not something one buys every year and, all in all, the KA still appear to be the way to go. Time to make a decision!

Get this NutriBullet 12-Piece Blending Set marked down from $120 to $100 to $67.99 shipped with stacked codes HOME15, YES20, and ENDJAN50 at Kohlâs. This is the lowest price we could find by $21. Last night, I got an email from RealReal saying that my $50 credit would expire tonight. Apparently, it was not a forgotten credit, but a promotion. I got a $400+ pair of designer wedges (brand new!) for $40 after 20% off and the $50! Had to pay $12 for shipping, but heck, it is still a bargain!
Try those Nurtibullet stacked codes from Kohls on the mixerâŠI tried it and the mixer ended up at $206.28.
Amazon âdeal of the dayâ is having 70% or more off coats. The toggle one Iâm interested in isnât cheaper than it is on another site, but free shipping is nice.
Okay, beat this: At my local excellent thrift shop I scored a short sleeved yellow sweater top that was just what I needed. It had this lame sewn-on fabric collar & short sleeves added on but I thought, âI can just cut those off!â So I did. Best part was the price. $.09. No, that is not a typo!
I saw an offer at Merrill Edge for $600 bonus for putting funds in a new account with them. I took it to Schwab and got them to match it, tho they had no comparable offer! They did say I needed to keep funds with Schwab for a year, which I intended to do.
How does your thrift shop even make $$ selling garments for $.09? Good score!
I called my cable company to tell them that unless they add Spanish language programming, Iâm going to have to switch. They lowered my monthly bill by $42. Iâm still switching in a year if no programming change, but Iâll save money in that time.
A tip on how to save money on medical costs:
Call and ask the hospital and/or doctorâs office if they will give you a discount if you pay the bill in full (rather than monthly payments). I have been able to save 20% by doing this.
Hubby had an ER visit which resulted in transfer to another hospital for overnight stay, then more testing. I saved us almost $800 by asking both hospitals and the cardiology group (by the time the ER physicians group and ambulance billed insurance, our max out-of-pocket for DH had already been met) Woohoo!
Iâd bet that most people donât know that you can do this. Never hurts to ask!
^ I guess I donât understand this one. If you reach your OOP max, your insurance should pay 100% at that point, right? So what are you ultimately saving? What am I missing?
I saved 20% on the part of the bills that WE had to pay ($500 copay for the hospital admission, then a certain amount up to DHâs per-person deductible and out-of-pocket max) saving us almost $800. (The insurance company did pay 100% after the OOP max was met. Sorry it was unclear)
Did this in another year when we didnât come close to meeting the high deductible on the plan we had then.
@MomCat2 â are you saying that you were able to obtain a 20% prompt pay discount? We have a $7K deductible before the insurance company pays anything, and I always pay those amounts in full. Granted, no one has had a hospital admission in years so the $7K consists of office visits, blood work and prescription drugs, so I donât know that we would be able to negotiate a discount on $150 bill, but something to consider if faced with hospital expenses.
yes, abasket. when I call to pay our share with a credit card (love our 2% reward points!), I ask if they give a discount for paying in full. The billed amounts have all been for $500+. Certainly couldnât hurt to ask on smaller amounts. Bills for blood work can be pretty high, also visits to specialists.
If you are getting discounts on the co-pay or co-insurance, I think your insurance company will have a conniption if they find out. If I understand this, they are crediting $100 towards your co-insurance while you are only paying $80 (for example). They will want their fair share of any discount, and you to pay the plan amount.
Maybe I am still missing something.
