Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

BrownParent…what is the Penzy offer?

If any of you great shoppers come across some inexpensive purple (not lilac, not the heinous LALaker shade, but a rich deep purple) towels please message me!!! I have checked many many local stores and purple must be out this year!

Not inexpensive…but will last and last!

Surprisingly, I purchased lovely purple towels at Costco.

Bed Bath and Beyond has several brands with purple towels online. We got ours at Penny’s 16 years ago and they have held up well but their site is acting wonky right now. Here’s BB & B: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/category/bed-bath/bath-towels-rugs/bath-towels/12041/12041-4294966331-4294949611/1-48?pagSortOpt=DEFAULT-0&view=grid&refType=true

@thumper1 sorry I wasn’t clear.

With any order you get to pick off that list for your freebee. 'Those are the codes to enter at checkout to get one of the seasonings as a freebie add-on. Seems it is to promote the new 3/4 c bag quantity. Free shipping for $30 order and I always get a freebie size of something extra i my box in addition to my coupon code freebie.

I love the cinnamon they have 4 kinds plus a blend I usually get. Also I use the Mitchell Street Steak seasoning on burgers. The chicken taco seasoning is a regular in the pantry. I love Aleppo crushed red pepper.

@ssmom, I may have the same exact ones from Penney’s, but they deep rich purple has been replaced by a lighter color leaning towards lavender. The Turkish link above has the right color but yikes! The price!! The BBB towels are close. Maybe I’ll go there again. Thanks for trying!

Those company store towels are expensive, yes. But they are terrific. We have two sets that were purchased in 2003, and two sets purchased in 2007 (both HS graduation gifts for our kids to take to college from an aunt).

They honestly look brand new…and the all have gotten a lot of use.

The Costco purple is like the grape color of the Company Store listed above. Charisma is the brand and the towels are very thick. They are not listed on Costco’s site, but I believe these are the same ones; of course at Costco they are tons cheaper!!

I’ve been having a heck of a time finding a pair of shoes to wear to my son’s graduation next weekend. I have a pair to send back to Amazon and another one on it’s way. However, knowing they might not work, I decided to try Bon Ton’s today in a local mall. Bon Ton’s is a nice little department store and there’s always something on sale. I found ONE pair of white pumps that looked nice but they didn’t have it in my size. As I was leaving I saw the Payless shoe store and thought, what the heck…I’ll try them. I got four pair of shoes, including these: http://www.payless.com/womens-karmen-pump/70962.html?dwvar_70962_color=turquoise And, oh my, they appear to be comfortable! They were buy one get one half price so I got four pair for about $75!

We actually have a Penzy store within driving distance. Does the offer apply in store? I just bought the Vietnamese cinnamon and a basil. It was a little overwhelming though. Any other tips of what people love there?

Just made reservations for a hotel in SF at a conference for May 2016. It’s walking distance of Moscone and they did give me an AAA rate and offer free continental breakfast and happy hour every day. It should work out fine for me and they allow cancelations up to 48 hours prior to the reservations date. It is a relief because it is onerous trying to book a room near the convention center when everyone else is trying to do the same thing and prices are really high in SF most of the time anyway. I was surprised I was allowed to book more than a year in advance but happy!

They said to check back periodically to see if the rate drops. They already gave me a rate 10% lower than they have on the internet!

Was at Walmart last night and they were clearing out some of their ‘premium’ store brand San’s Choice ice cream for $1.00/qt. container…regular price $2.97. Bought 8 quarts for $8.00…no sales tax on ice cream in Florida! Got flavors: Moose Track, Sea Salt Caramel, Vanilla, Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Coffee & Donuts.

Having Coffee & Donuts ice cream for breakfast right now.

@Picapole Must have original coupon for store. It comes with the catalogue so if you signed up for that now you might get it in time, coupon is good to June 30. I could mail the coupon to you. The codes above are not unique so can be used by anyone online.

The Vietnamese cinnamon is the strongest/sharpest, you would want to reduce the amount in traditional baking and use in full when you want that aggressiveness. China is sweet, spicy, strong. Indonesian is strong, smooth, sweet like childhood cinnamon. Ceylon is fragrant, complex with citrus tones and softer, no bite. I get the blend of 4 called Penzy cinnamon. They are so good because of the freshness.

The Galena Street Rib and Chicken rub for BBQ or been can chicken is very popular

Turkish Bay leaves/Aleppo pepper flakes

The Tellicherry Black Peppercorns are the bomb, I love fresh ground pepper.

I newly tried the Country French Salad dressing blend to mix with oil and vinegar and is quite delicious with hint of garlic, herbs and tarragon. Also used it on fish once.

Mitchell Street for Steaks and burgers

Mural of Flavor is the saltfree blend, new to me but terrific flavor and a little kick

Greek blend has oregano, lemon, garlic- good for marinating chicken

Maharaja Curry - not tried yet but gets good mention, rich and sweet, not hot, includes lots of spices including fenugreek and saffron. They have many curry blends.

I like to have cake spice or baking spice when I want something more complex than cinnamon.

Fox Point Seasoning - not tried, shallot, garlic, green peppercorn

Double vanilla - splurge

Beef and Chicken soup base and flavoring - great, not salty like bouillon

@picapole re: penzy- Sunny Paris- one of best sellers- great on veggies and scrambled eggs.
Galena street on grilled pork chops ( or chicken)
I’m waiting for reduced shipping charges …hopefully they do that again.

Hope the Sam’s choice ice cream isn’t made by Blue Bell!!

I was invited to a wedding that’s being planned VERY quickly - I got the invite two weeks ago, and the wedding is a week from today. My wallet’s been hurting a bit because I have needed to buy a dress (the wedding is fairly conservative Jewish, which means that the dresses I might have worn are not appropriate because they hit at the knee and my knees need to be covered), shoes, present, get my nails done, etc in a somewhat limited amount of time.

I went into Macy’s today looking for a wristlet or clutch and bracing myself to spend at least $50 or so. The clutch that ended up matching my dress the best and that I loved was marked down from $58 to around $9 - I ended up paying $7.77 with the friends and family sale. Most of what I’m spending on the wedding is NOT a good buy, so I was thrilled to take a victory there.

Just bought a long skirt from Costco for $15.99 plus a top for $4.99. Total price of the new outfit: $20.98 + tax.

Great deal on the clutch that matches your dress, @eireann!

The dresses I bought from Macy’s to try on for upcoming weddings have all been shipped and should be arriving at my house this week! I’m happy not to have to try to dig through all the clothes to find my size and things that I’d like. I’m really starting to like this buy, have it shipped and return the things that don’t work. It’s so much easier than driving, parking, and hunting through the stores and racks. I’m keeping my fingers crossed I like one or more of the outfits.

I refuse to shop at a Macy’s store. Too disorganized for me. I’d rather pay more…or go,without.

@BrownParent and @SouthJerseyChessMom Thanks for the Penzy’s rundown! I am pasting both into an email onto my phone for quicker searching at the store.

I almost bought one of the rubs but did not, so it’s good to know which one. Also will get my next vanilla there when I run out.

My co-worker worries the shop near us is not busy enough to have good turnover of merchandise, but I notice both things I bought smelled good and had a date code stamped on them that was quite a ways out. So I will probably stay with the store rather than mail order for now.
