Ordered DH a new sun hat on Costco.com. $3 off and free shipping. But my big score was last week. Our local grocery store mailed out $20 off on $75 or more purchase coupons and as a loyalty rewards customer, I had $10 off $100 that I had forgotten. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see $30 off my $105 purchase! The stars were aligned for this one.
So far, nothing at the Nordie’s sale caught my attention, but Farfetch had 20% off all clearance, so a pair of Tod’s wedge pumps is on the way to my place.
Oh, and our Rack had really nice Coach purses, the leather kind without the stupid C all over them. Debating whether I want to keep the purse I got or to return it…
I didn’t find a lot at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale last weekend either. I ended up with a cute pair of Steve Madden brown booties, and 3 new Halogen tshirts in basic colors that I like since they are longer to wear over leggings and skinny jeans. D got the Dolce Vita brown over the knee boots in brown which I think are $179 on anniversary since she couldn’t afford Stuart Weitzman boots as a poor college student!
I got my first shipment from the Nordstrom anniversary sale. The north face jacket was a bust. I ordered it in the small and the medium. The small was too small and the medium was frumpy, both going back. The Nike frees are not the same as last years which I liked so they are going back also. Liked the Kendra Scott necklace. The jeans were too big.
Today the Cole Haan oxfords are coming, we will see if I like them. Ordered a sweater and another pair of jeans, we will see.
I hate ordering on line because of this. Nordstrom offered the free shipping, I wonder if other people return more than they didn’t. I always seem to.
I don’t really mind ordering online from Nordstrom since I have a store less than a mile away that I can always return things to.
When I go to the store, they are usually out of my size anyway and offer to ship it to me! As the result, to save time, I just buy stuff online.
My daughter and I went to the Macy’s sale yesterday at 8 pm. No one in the store! I found shirts, she found a white dress she needs for Rush, and then she said ‘let’s check the shoes.’ We got keds for $8-9, but she found Michael Kors sandals that were $145 on sale for $29, and some Helly Hanson boots that were $130 for $26.
I don’t understand why CC doesn’t like Macy’s. I love it. The nice guy in the shoe department helped us with everything even though it was 10 minutes after closing.
Macy’s and Ross are “treasure hunts,” and not everyone is in a hunting mood. They also vary considerably from store to store. I have gotten some nice things at good prices at Macy’s, but I have to be patient and willing to dig–A LOT!
At Ross on Tuesday, I was able to get a Full-Size 500 count 100% cotton sheet set for $33-10% for my senior discount, plus tax for a total of $31! H was very impressed and pleased, as it is tougher and tougher to find full sheet sets in 100% cotton in HI–mostly there are blends, polyester or other sizes.
Just got back from the Grocery Outlet, which offers both brand-name and local foods, often organic, for much less than retail. I’m supplying snacks and lunch for about 40 kids on Saturday and was prepared to spend, but found chicken thighs “best by today” at less than $1 a pound. So instead of spending about $3/lb for 6 pounds of chicken at $18, I spent $4. The pasta, sauce and broccoli for the alfredo was all cheaper than in regular stores too. Even adding cereal, string cheese, craisins and foil pans to cook in, I spent only $39. AND since I bought a lottery ticket on a whim and won $50, I came out ahead!
Deb922- we must think alike. I bought the Cole Haan Oxford shoes at the anniversary sale. The only other thing I picked up was 2 of the plain Halogen T shirts. I wanted the Patagonia vest but it was sold out in the store and online.i did order some pants for my H and my philosophy face wash online but they haven’t arrived yet.
I can’t deal with the Macy’s at our mall. Every aisle is so crowded with stuff and if there is a sale everything is a mess. I shop all the time at Nordstrom Rack, Marshall’s and TJ Max and they are much better organized than our Macy’s.
Our downtown Macy’s looks like a herd of elephants ran through it - on a slow shopping day! The Rack across the square, OTOH, cleaned up their act and looks neat. Guess which one has more helpful staff? Or should I say visible staff?
Daughter got a 90 dollar pair of Patagonia jeans at the outlet in Freeport today for 9 bucks.
Does getting a 2 BR condo for week in Park City, very close to ski lift, for less than 500 total for a week in March count as a good deal? Ive found the place listed for as high as 750 a night, so I’m feeling good. However, I can’t get my husband to commit to going. Looks like friends may be willing though. Push good karma my way! I want to take advantage of this great deal.
My good buy: Two BEAUTIFUL bouquets at the Farmers Market - $6 each. I have purchased similar bouquets at the florist for $20+ each.
Adding a Macy’s story. I recently ordered a dress (the original salesperson kindly ordered it for me because the size I needed was not available in the store) and had it shipped to my home. I got a paper receipt while at the store. The dress arrived, but I decided to wear a different dress and returned this dress to Macy’s. When I returned it, the credit amount was over $40 less than the purchase price. The clerk tried three times and then gave up. I actually think she thought I would accept this. I asked for a manager. When she finally came, she acted like she was doing me a big favor. She also wanted me to take a store credit. Seriously? NO! I’m sure glad I still had the paper receipt. I used to be a regular Macy’s shopper, but experiences like this make it difficult to want to spend my money there.
1214mom - I’ll go to Park City with you. :)>-
We have two shopping malls across from each other both of them have a Macys store. I tend to look online first and order to be picked up in store. Yesterday I purchased a $50 food steamer that was on sale for $19.99. Today I checked online and it is back up to $50 and back ordered for 39 days. Fortunately mine is on its way and looks like it will be delivered tomorrow.
Yes, even when you have a paper receipt at Macy’s, you have to watch what they refund you. It can be under or over your receipt amount. Very odd computer system!
I took my mom to get niece a shower gift. One of the items listed was Corning 10 piece covered set. At Ross, it was $16.99. On the Macy’s registry, it was on sale for ,$23.99, down from original $39.99! Mom wanted to get a bag, so we found an attractive reusable zippered bag for $7.99, so the combined price of the two items was still lower than the Macy’s price. As a bonus, the bag is blue, the wedding color.
Ar our Macy’s you might even find clothes on the floor. And no clerk to check you out. Ross’s is worse and use to be be a place to shop but not anymore.
sseamom–good job with the lottery ticket. H said one time that he hoped buying lottery tickets was not our financial plan
I don’t care for Macy’s, but I’m odd in that I don’t care for any large department stores. I avoid the mall like the plague…give me a good Rack anyday though and I’m happy!
Extra 20% off at Athleta on their Semi-Annual sale - still lots of good stuff left - code EXTRA20
Two hotel rooms on Priceline at $52/each. Regular price $108/each, even with my AAA discount.
