Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

And I just discovered if I pay now (not sure I want to) I can knock another $13 off! - $52!

OK- I did just prepay (it charges the base fee of $34.50 and charges the $18 tax at return) so got a toyota corolla (or similar) for $52. Could have selected a ā€œmanagers specialā€ for $48 but it might be a tin can on wheels, so decided to splurge the extra $4. Still will get my 3% back from mrrebates and 5% back from the credit card.

@jym626 I’ve also learned that as the date draws close, it’s often a better deal to prepay. I recently rebooked the same hotel for move-in and reduced our rate by $14.00/night. I also used autoslash.com for price reduction alerts and rebooked our car rental about 3 different times over the course of several months, ending up prepaying for a better vehicle and for less money.

I keep forgetting about autoslash. But we typically use Hertz even though I will periodically check other companies as well. Turns out if I had done the auto pay last night I would’ve saved a whole extra $1.50  oh well

I’m apparently the last person to find half.com. Just purchased a textbook for D that she wanted to keep (otherwise we’d have rented) for literally half the cost of a new book at her bookstore. Even used it was at about 75% of new, but found a ā€œbought but never usedā€ copy on half, for, well, half, INCLUDING shipping, because they have a coupon. Textbooks are such a racket and I’m a cheapskate, so I’m very pleased with this development.

We have a friend visiting who told us that he partipates in a program Silver Sneakers through his Medicare supplement. He said he has been able to work out at a gym at all the stops on his trip for free. Sounds like something worth looking into if you’re 65+.

Yes, silver sneakers is a benefit of some of the Medicare choices. My gym participates and I feel like a youngster!

Shopped at Bonton today. Remember we talked about fleece jackets earlier in this thread. These are pullover fleece jackets. If they don’t have the regular sizes they do also carry this in plus.
I got these for $8.88 today online. (originally $50) Use code DOTFORAUG16
For free shipping with a $20 purchase use code: BRADFREE20

More fleeces???

I could use tips on saving money on a car rental. I see autoslash mentioned. Also if anyone has promo codes for discounts on textbook rental that would be helpful.

Silver sneakers is a mixed bag. The best of the supplemental a don’t include it, but lots of the HMOs do. The co-payment for one appointment can almost equal the cost of a gym for a month.

I am happy that my prof picked a previous year edition of the textbook. I bought a brand new book off Amazon at 75% off the cost of the latest edition. The changes? The year and edition number. LOL.

@raclut I bought that fleece for D16 during our last go round! It is definitely thinner than the others, but very soft. Cute, too!

Regarding textbooks there is a 10% off coupon if you spend $50 on half.com which D16 used (thanks to @sseamom) SCHOOLSIN10 - must use call caps. D16 also purchased through Ebates. Every penny helps!

sseamom, your D should ask her profs if a previous edition of a book is OK to buy. Some will say no, there have been fundamental changes, and some will say go for it. She should also ask her upperclassmen to see if there are any classes where the prof hardly ever touches the book… A library copy might suffice then.

This article mentions all the websites to save money on college textbooks.

It was listed on Brad’s Deals. I just looked at the listing and now it says it’s expired.
