Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Zipcars are great. My son used them often when he was in the service and living in various cities. There is one in the garage where H works and it’s cheaper for him to use it than to pay for parking on days where he’ll need to do a mid-day errand. They also have small trucks, minivans, etc. so are great for small moves, large item purchases or just for errands for people in cities who don’t own cars.

Cheeringsection, my kid used Zipcars in college - they had 2 that “lived” on her campus. Good deal, because the rent included tolls and insurance!

I just returned from taking my D on a little vacation for her birthday (and because she was hardly home this summer). My favorite bargains were Allegiant Air nonstop flights - $42 each, each way (OH to Savannah). Rental car (via autoslash.com) $115/wk including all taxes. Airbnb whole 2BR house with pool, $35/night. Super clear mineral springs to swim in, $2 each, amazing island beach on the gulf $8/carload. Groupon for a few meals, less than half price.

Time for just me and D…priceless, as they say

^^This, I’m jealous of!!! That’s an amazing trip at an amazing price! Priceless!!! (seriously, $35/night on that house rental?)

@OHMomof2 - sounds great but there’s a gulf beach near Savannah? Or did you drive to the panhandle?

We had a week, part of the time southwest of Ocala @greenwitch . The house with pool was there. It was listed at $50/night @abasket but I sent an invite to my D to join Airbnb and she booked it so that got her $30 off the two nights (so $35/nt) and also got me a $30 credit (which I haven’t used yet, actually).

Anyone want to try Airbnb feel free to message me for my promo code - we both get $30, you get it taken off your first booking like my D did  I’ve used it 5 times now, great experiences so far.

Also used an Airbnb in Savannah but that was $35/nt for a private room, not a whole house. Fine, as we really just slept there. Spent a few hours on Hilton Head the first day, explored Savannah the second.

The gulf beach was Honeymoon Island which was GORGEOUS and mostly empty. We went to a couple of springs, our favorite was Rainbow Springs. Like swimming in an aquarium.

Stayed with a friend in Jacksonville and visited some really lovely beaches on barrier islands north of there, all free or nearly so.

@OHMomof2 I’ve been searching Airbnb for Charleston places all morning -first time to Charleston sister and I are going in mid sept of hurricanes don’t ruin plans-

When searching AirBnB, depending on the exact region, you can also check the bottom line at VRBO/Homeaway. You can also try VRBO dot CAor Homeaway dot CA or the UK site. ABB always charges a fee; VRBO is rolling out the fee on assorted sites. If the house you like has any name you can google that, they may have a website, or check for a local/regional site offering listings with no fee.
On VRBO, most sites give you the owners phone # and you can book direct. I don’t feel badly about circumventing the VRBO fee. The fees get you nothing, nothing at all, especially on VRBO where owners have already paid to list their homes and VRBO added a fee after bring purchased by Expedia for $3.9B, lots of profit needed there!

@SouthJerseyChessMom you want my promo code?

Kohls has a 12 piece towel set for $35.99, any one tried it? Funny the Brad’s Deal shows it at $29.99, but it pops up at $35.99
Are they any good?

Both Ds took The Big One towels off to college and used them through grad school and beyond. They are not the softest but they last a long time without fraying and looking terrible.

For that price…how bad could they be? I’d give them a whirl…but they don’t have the colors I want!

Same here. Great price, but the colors aren’t compatible with my bathrooms.

@OhioMom2 We are weeks away from booking, if no one else has used it by then -yes, would be interested !

Oh anyone can use it, repeatedly. I’m just guessing it’s against TOS to post it, plus it includes my real name.

Once you book an AirBNB you will get one to share with people also. I’ll PM it to you so you can get the $30 off your booking this time.

Since people are talking about Kohls, figured I’d let people know the 30% off code is SPLURGE30, valid Aug 24-31. I don’t know that I need anything, but when I get the 30% is about the only time I shop there.

Remembered I need a late birthday gift for tomorrow and was in the Mall to make a return. Stopped in Macy’s House goods section and found a $69.00 platter just her colors for $7.89!
Then found an apron for $7 and another gift for $10.00 that was originally $40.
The salesperson told me they were paying me to take these items.
I have washed the two platters with hot soapy water and they look fabulous.
Funny for me as I never go to the Mall and never shop Macy’s.

@oregon101 Wouldn’t it be nice if every shopping experience was like that? Very lucky for the receiver of these gifts.

One of my printers bit the big one. Had to replace it pronto. Picked up a multi-function printer that is $179.99 on sale for $99, that, with rewards credit and a returned unopened printer cartridge from the old printer, brought the printer price down to (with tax) $51.62.

Bought some ink (probably more than I need but, oh well) that was originally $97.98 (as much as the printer!) but with coupons/discounts was 68.39. All in all, got it all for about 40% off. Not a great bargain, but good in a pinch, and the printer has a lot of functions (half of which I’ll probably never know how to use)

I thought I had gotten a good deal when I first rented the rental car for an upcoming trip to Minneapolis. Got the weekend rental for $81.67. But today I realized that I might have forgotten to book it through mrrebates, where I get 3% back, so I went to rebook it, and was now able to get the rental for $65.02! And in addition to the 3% rebate from mrrebates, we also get 5% back by paying for it with my AmEx Business Open Card!! Score!
