Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Ended up getting a $20 drink including a weird souvenir Alien Idol mug effectively for free due to my forgetting the bar was cash only and a friend spotting me the $20. When discussing repayment options, he stated being repaid in Amazon gift card codes would be much easier than walking to the nearest bank which takes our cards.

Great for me as I had a few $10 amazon gift cards codes laying around in my inbox from a promotion which I wasn’t planning on using anytime soon.

DH needed some slacks and some undies, and I happened to have the 30% off (I think the code is pumpkin30) plus some others coupon and a sale going at Kohls. Haven’t set foot in there in a while. But, we stopped in-- DH got 2 pr of slacks, (Khaki and grey) the pkg of jockey shorts (5 for the price of four in a pack) and I got 2 giant bath sheets that matched a towel set we have (only had the regular bathsize towels, not the big bath sheets) so got 2 of the uber big towels plus an extra washcloth I needed. All that was $80, plus I got $10 back in Kohls cash.

Not a bargain since Eileen Fisher is expensive but Garnet Hill has EF 25% off and free shipping. I don’t wear a lot of her clothing but I love the fit of her boyfriend jean on my body. Ordered a pair of black denim jeans that I liked but wasn’t willing to pay full price for.

I got a temperpedic mattress today for $1000 off the list price. Supposedly they “never” go on sale, but the store was discontinuing carrying that particular model, which I really liked, so I got lucky. I’m a little stressed by the cost, but over 15ish years, it’s worth it if it helps us sleep better.

We just recently replaced our 16 yr old Tempurpedic with a new one from Costsco. Loved the first one, love this one, too. Hope you will love yours.

I felt like I was channeling @BunsenBurner with my recent good buy – I was at Nordstrom Rack, when I spied a pair of interesting looking shoes in a Born box on a high shelf. They turned out to be Jimmy Choos – $199 reduced from $675. I never wear high heels-- these are about 2.5 inches – but they are unbelievably comfortable.

High-five, @fireandrain !

Not a good buy exactly, but my H sent in a photo for a safety contest at his company and won. His prize is a pair of Beats wireless headphones. H went to a seminar last week and while he was enjoying a beer with a colleague afterwards the administrator of the seminar came outside and told H that he won the prize they were giving away which was an Amazon Echo. So it was a good luck week for my H!

Yesterday I finally had some time and motivation to do a little shopping for two things I “needed” - some fall shoes for work and a pair of 7/8 running tights. I headed out to a location in town that has a DSW and a TJMaxx next to each other plus a grocery store very nearby which was another stop. DSW’s overwhelm me but I knew there would be variety and I had a couple of varieties of shoes I was looking for. Right off the bat I found two pairs - one which I had actually been eyeing up online last week, but they didn’t have my size in a M width. As I was finishing trying them on, the lights in the store went out - and apparently, in the entire strip mall! They had to clear everyone out - I left the two boxes behind with my name knowing that chances were, I wouldn’t get back there the next couple of days. I went to the grocery store across the street -which had lights - and checked the strip mall afterwards - all stores still closed.

Came home and decided to check for the styles online. Sure enough, my favorite 6pm! For one of the pairs at least. The DSW price was $69.99 for this Rockport/Cobb Hill style. 6pm price? $34.99! I searched for a pair of running tights while I was at it to get my order over $50 - and therefore free shipping.

Moral of this story. I have had this happen LOTS with shoes. At DSW, Nordstrom Rack, etc. Before you buy in the store, get on your phone and check out Amazon (which has many 6pm shoes) and 6pm.com - you may well find the same shoe/style for much less!

Purchased a very pretty 5 piece queen comforter set online from Macy’s with free shipping.
Regular price $160 on sale with a 30% one time use coupon I received came to $35 including tax.
On top of that I will be getting $5 Macy’s money and 10% + $5 cashback with ebates.

I just did the exact same thing with a pair of Skechers and DSW vs. Amazon. I saved about $10 It would have been closer to $30 had they not already been on sale at 40% off. I always check a brick and mortar store for shoes, then go online.

I got a voucher from living social for going to a paint bar for $31 that is good for two people to go paint for 2.5 hours.
I have always wanted to go to one and now I just have to schedule it. I am thinking of taking dd when she is home on break.

My MIL and her two daughters do those paint bars all the time. They love them. It’s fascinating to see how differently each of their paintings turn out even though they all paint the same design. I would love to do one, but my older D is always working at night and the younger one isn’t of drinking age yet. And I think she’d be a bit put out doing a kiddie one with me at the age of 17.

@sseamom My dd doesn’t turn 21 till next year and I don’t really drink but they have food and other beverages.
They even have kids birthday parties over there at the paint bar. I think the last time I painted was in high school a long time ago so I’m going to be at a beginner level.

I went to a fund raiser that had a painting thing. It was really fun. My daughter even came with me and she liked it too. They are doing another one this Saturday but it is a tile rather than a painting. Still thinking about it.

This isnt a very good deal but I was pleased. DS#2 told us what he wants for the holiday (some 144 hz computer monitor for gaming). He told us there were some good deals on newegg. DH looked at them and picked one out that was a really good deal for all the features it had. In fact, he liked it so much, after were ordered one for DS, he wanted one too so we ordered one for him! I looked at the site today to check on the orders (ordered them last night). Both are now shipped , and the price went up $40 today!

That’s how I shop too, one for you and one for me.

@raclut The paint bar that I see on the coupons around here seems to be for those over 21 or for younger kid parties, But I’ll look again, because if you can be under 21 but not relegated to the little kid’s events, that would work.

@abasket, thank you for the reminder! I found the booties that D3 wants for her birthday but only through 6PM. I really can’t stand their not-so-new return policy and wouldn’t want D to have to go to the post office, wait in line and pay for the return in case they don’t work out. Checked on Amazon and they’re there. Not only are returns easier (usually an easy drop off at UPS) but returns are free for this particular purchase. Price is the same but that’s fine by me.

I found a khaki London Fog trenchcoat just in my size at Goodwill. It’s in really good condition except for one button that was close to falling off, and I have a sewing kit and a basic understanding of how to use it. Totally worth what the thrift store was asking, especially with San Francisco’s climate. I live in the foggiest part of the city, and we’re getting into the rainiest season. To top it off, I’m vacationing in London for a week in January, and I’ll have the perfect coat for the weather.
