My D who turned 28 asked for a new backpack for her birthday in November. She likes to use one for airplane travel - her carry on suitcase and a backpack - she jam her laptop, book, snacks, and purse items into it and it can conveniently be carried. She was still using her backpack from college (and maybe late highschool!) I ended up getting her a Patagonia one from 6pm that didn’t look so “school-ish” but still had the laptop padding but also had some leather trim and not so many outside pockets for a more stylish look. She really liked it.
@Madison85 the totes are popular in the south and in Texas; I hadn’t heard of them until my daughter was in HS. I love them because they are lightweight, durable, and fold up. I typically travel with the large tote as my purse (accommodates sweater, snack, iPad, camera, etc.) and the medium tote folded in my suitcase to use when I get to my destination and don’t need to schlep so much. Haven’t seen the backpacks before.
I bought one for D who lives in LA. She nixed it and said it was way overpriced. She wasn’t impressed by the brand so I guess they aren’t popular in her cinema circles.
Both of my D’s here in Southern California have the Longchamp totes. Older D got hers for Christmas 6 years ago when she was in college and still uses it today.
Some people like them and some don’t. They aren’t my D’s style. But my niece and sister love them.
But Longchamp is very rarely on sale here in the states. When they are and usually only when they clearance certain colors or Nordstrom anniversary sale, it’s been my experience that they sell out fast.
My sister swears by her Longchamp bags. She buys the leather ones and uses them until they fall apart. She bought her first in Paris and it’s a nice memory for her. They are also cheaper in Europe according to my sister.
Thanks to everyone who was happy for my good buy of the day.
I have a fake Longchamps that I bought at a store long before I knew what Longchamps were, so I didn’t even know I was buying a cheap copy. I love it. I paid $20.
The Body Shop is doing buy 3 get 3 free plus free shipping. (or but 2 get 1 free)
If you key in promo code: Yourgift

you will get $25 off if you spend $75
If you use ebates you will get 8 % cashback.
@mom60 It is a matter of what % cashback the store is giving. For example I have gotten 10% cashback recently on my purchases from ebates shopping at Macy’s online. Whichever site has the higher percentage cashback for the store you plan to shop go to that site.
I consistently use ebates.
This is a unique one, but here goes. H LOVES his old 1998 Volvo S70. The exterior is definitely showing it’s age but the engine is very sound and works better than anything we’ve rented. Our mechanic acquired an identical car that has a great body but terrible engine and he and H agreed to have mechanic swap out all the good parts and the H will have a car with good body and good engine. That’s what H wants more than a new car, so that’s what he’s getting. It’s cheaper than a new paint job and H is thrilled. Because it’s making H happy, I consider it priceless.
I should have learned by now. Kohls sucks. Something I ordered Nov. 29 still shows only that the shipping label has been created-- and the customer-no service guy said the “back office” would have to look into it. The order I ordered Dec 2 was split into 2- one supposedly shipped a day or so ago, the other took 4 days to process, and they have yet to credit the shipping refund. Oh yes-- "they’ll have the back office look into it. Will never order on line from them again.
Macy’s has 30% off many things, including Nike and Columbia college apparel, which I didn’t even know they sold until my son pointed it out tonight. Got enough stuff for my H to get free shipping, and used my “thanks for sharing” certificate (like a gift card) from last year to pay for it.
Those “just because” gifts can be the best, @collage1! Williams-Sonoma and their affiliates (Pottery Barn, West Elm, Mark & Graham) are having a big sale today. Up to 75% off some items, although the holiday soaps and decorations I bought were only 40-50% off. Free shipping, too. D is too frugal to spend any of her own hard-earned $ on decorations, but I suspect she’ll enjoy receiving a couple of “sursies”.
