Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I got my spices yesterday minus the heart and sole box, it will be shipped separate

I managed to find a Hunter backpack at Target today that I had been looking for my niece’s birthday.
Brought it home and my D absolutely loved it. Hoping I can find another one for my niece. I missed out on the original Hunter sale at Target but it looked like someone made bulk returns today at the store. (Maybe they weren’t able to sell it on ebay)

Got my spices yesterday as well—minus the Heart and Sole box. Not sure why they didn’t just hold off and send all at once. Isn’t this going to double their shipping costs on something they are already losing money on??

The FTC requires them to ship what they have and to give you the option of cancelling the part of the order that isn’t available within (I think) 30 days.

I have this thing for Chemex coffee pots: glass, with the clever wood handle in the middle. When I was in college (and poor) all the cool people (who had some money) had a glass Chemex coffee pot. It seemed like a very glamorous possession to me. Over the years I’ve been given two Chemex glass pots, both of which I accidentally broke, breaking my heart too. “That’s it, no more Chemex coffee pots for you!” I told myself, sadly.

Today I drove to Goodwill to drop off some stuff. It was 1/2 price day. “What the heck, I’ll stop in,” I thought. And as result I am the happy owner of a glass Chemex coffee pot, which was $2.99 with 50% off.

It looks really cool in my kitchen. I feel 20 years old again. This was one great buy.

Nice find, @katliamom. Those Chemex pots are hot again, too.

Yeah, I had never heard of Chemex and don’t drink coffee but one of my sons got his dad one for Christmas . Everything old is new again!

H wonders if those paperclips coming with the Penzy’s orders are to hold the sample envelopes shut after they have been opened but not all the way used?

Ewww.

Amtrak points - I’m relatively new to train travel but hope to do more, with that in mind I got a Amtrak credit card and joined their rewards program. I was very pleasantly surprised that I already had enough points to cover a sleeper car for our summer trip to St. Louis. I’ve just learned that if I go through their rewards program link I can earn 2x and 3x the points I would on stuff I normally buy anyway! Had to make a large purchase at Home Depot but because I went through their link I got the 1000 points for spending $1000 on the credit card as I normally would have but also got 2000 points for using their link. You can still use the reward program even if you don’t want their credit card. They have loads of stores that offer various extra points (Target, CVS, Walmart
) you just need to be careful about reading the exclusions for each store, Target seems to exclude everything except clothes! We hope to make a cross country train trip in two years so I’m on a quest to earn the most points possible without additional spending!

Thanks @alexgrin I’m really excited about it because we’ve never had a sleeper car before. Another “good deal” is that if you have a sleeper car all your meals in the dinning car are included;-)

Any update on Penzey’s Heart and Soul? Waiting for two orders.

@sevmom - My credit card was charged 3 days ago and the shipping notification came today for the order I placed for my daughter on the 16th.

Thanks, @SnLMom My orders were from 4/15 and still no shipping notification. I’ll probably have to call them if I don’t hear from them by early next week.

I ordered on 4/15, Shipping email came on 5/2 and I received my spices, minus the H and S, on Tuesday 5/8. It was shipped UPS with final delivery by USPS. There was an enclosed note that stated H and S will ship as soon as available.

I received the items I ordered IN ADDITION to the Heart and Soul box a couple of days ago. There was a piece of paper in the box saying that the H and S box would be delivered in a couple more weeks.

I got a very small crossbody nylon bag for $15. It’s just large enough for essentials and featherweight. It’s my mother’s day gift to me and a momento of a lovely visit to Santa Cruz!

I also bought a new pair of black strapless sandals and new SAS walking shoes plus an elastic lacing system so I never have to tie my shoes (turning them into slip ons)! We also bought H another pair of SAS walking shoes and 2replacement luggage handles for when his suitcase needs new handles.

Have any of you signed up for Informed Delivery from the USPS? I did it about 2 weeks ago and this morning I was able to see that I had a package from Jack Rogers scheduled for delivery on Monday in their system. I had bought a pair of sandals on sale a few weeks ago and decided I needed another size. I sent them back with free return label, but have had no communication from the company about receipt of return or exchange. Now, however, I know it’s all going to play out smoothly due to using this service. I love being able to know what mail is coming ahead of time. It doesn’t note catalogs and some junk mail, but very handy on addressed to me mail and packages. Anyway, since Penzey’s delivers via USPS, that would be a way to track their packages.

Messy’s (Macy’s  ) has a Mother’s Day 20% off code - MOM. Works on already reduced items and some more!

Penzeys has a free Mom Gift Box with a $10 purchase and with free shipping for $19.95 orders. The teacher box is only $5 and Chives $1 and Trinidad marinade $2.

I needed more Mural of Flavor which I accidentally received but it is now my favorite.
