Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Yes, I want that coat (do not need it though). Our NR had very nice Burberry parkas, but they were $400. No way in he** I’m paying that much for a coat.

Has anyone seen this:

[Discounters, Monitors Face Battle on Minimum Pricing - WSJ.com](http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122835660256478297.html?mod=yhoofront)

I haven’t bought something other than off a discount rack in the past 20+ years. the tag says “suggested retail price”. Well I suggest they lower it before I buy it.

I bought a 250 GB hd for $80, going to just copy everything in My documents over to it once a week. I’m fanatical about backing up.

Are there deals out there on North Face fleece jackets?

My deal of the day was 5 tickets to the Duke-Michigan basketball game tomorrow. They were on ebay this morning for less than face value and the game is sold out. We’ll see if Fed Ex delivers them tomorrow morning.

We were talking today about how we have NEVER seen North Face fleece on sale…even at a North Face store when I’ve headed to a clearance rack, no jackets to be seen…

Almost everything at EMS is 25% off, including North Face:

[Outdoor Gear, Clothing & Footwear at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS)](http://www.ems.com/)

Toledo-I was at Sports Authority and they did have some North Face products on sale. Not sure if the jackets were on sale. My H was looking for a lightweight pullover fleece to wear for tennis when the morning is cold. The North Face, Columbia and Alpine were all on sale. The Alpine was the cheapest and fit so that is what he went with.
Also his K swiss tennis shoes were $10 dollars off. They are also already fairly low priced compared to other brands so he was happy.
Used a $10 dollars off coupon on a purchase of 50 dollars. Stayed as close to the 50 as possible. He would have used the $25 dollars off a 100 purchase if the racket he wanted had been in stock in his grip size.
At a local surf shop bought H new sandals and two new swim boardshorts. They had a coupon for $30 dollars off a 100 purchase.
I am trying to only use coupons or buy on sale.
I have a 40% off coupon for Lucky brand, I might buy myself some new jeans.
I grew up in a big family where we never felt deprived but we definitely didn’t have everything we wanted. In my adult life I am lucky to be more comfortable but I still try to not go overboard. I sometimes buy for myself or my kids that I could get cheaper elsewhere. For example my youngest loves to read. I should make her use the library more but I do indulge her in books. It is a gift my Mom gave me from my childhood even when times were tough.
I actually find I am spending more this past month. I think the difference is that for the last 3 or 4 months I have rarely stepped foot in a store. Now with all the coupons and the holidays I am out more. Some gifts but also a few new things for myself.

Sportsbasement.com routinely has North Face Denali jackets (the official uniform of the Pacific Northwest) priced at $125 compared to the MSRP of $165, with comparable deals on some other North Face items and other major brands. I hesitate to mention this, but…they also had a “20% off everything” offer (applicable to the North Face as well) that expired yesterday. The coupon code was 56SHOP. I don’t know whether you could talk them into extending the offer. Sportsbasement has a few stores in CA as well as the on-line retail. I have ordered from them in the past and they were prompt and fine to deal with.

I found a navy North Face Denali for my brother at the beginning of October at backcountry.com for about $70. It was clearance from either 2006 or 2007. If you happen to be a smaller female, you can probably wear a kids’ XL which means it’ll be much cheaper.

I refuse to wear North Face anymore - EVERYONE at my school has one.

Thanks for all the North Face tips! Some of those prices are much better than what I’ve seen around here. Kids sizes go up to 18 so that will work for JH S and HS D.

Okay, I cheaped out on Christmas wrapping this week. Started to buy wrapping paper, then noticed the store had nice little reusable shopping bags for $0.79. Bought tissue paper. Wrapped gifts in tissue paper, loaded up the shopping bag.

Why wrapping so early? Because I’m using UPS Ground shipping to the other coast.

Thanks for the North Face tip. S is 5’8’’ but weighs 117 pounds. Hard to have a choice in things that fit.

Buy of the day was the 8GB Flashdrive for $17.99 at OfficeMax.

Yesterday at Macy’s, bought lots of women’s lingere at about 85% off the suggested retail price after coupon discounts. Also bought allergy control pillow encasings at Macy’s for about $6.50 apiece (after coupon) They are normally $13 apiece. Honestly don’t understand how they can be making money. Bought S a Perry Ellis wallet for 66% off list price & a t-shirt for >75% off list price. Yes, they had tons of customers but their profit margin must be extremely slim with all these discounts and coupons (particularly compared to their regular margins).

My son actually asked me for underwear and socks for Christmas. (He’s 22, but still, I thought it was weird. My daughter asked for locking skewers for her bicycle. I had to ask what they were. She turns out to be weird too. Practical children.)

Anyway, that sent me on a hunt for sales. REI has SmartWool socks (the preferred brand) on sale; Ex Officio (which makes travel underwear that really does dry almost immediately) has a 3 for the price of 2 sale AND free shipping.

I bought some GoBros Thorlo socks (we have trouble with wool–itchy to us) averaging $9/pair, including shipping (it was buy 3 & get the 4th free with $.99 shipping to HI). Normal price on the socks is about $15 apiece.

D1 had her eye on a Michael Kors down coat for a number of weeks. She needs one that’s a bit more dressy for work. It runs $300 retail. She saw it yesterday at Filene’s Basement for $130 or something and started to drool, but I refused to cave. We were at Costco today and the exact same coat was $59.99. Needless to say, I made her a happy girl.

teriwtt: high-five! I bet that’s the same coat I bought for my New Englander D a couple of weeks ago! Michael Kors, $59.99 at Costco! I did not know that the retail was $300 - wooowww  I did check this week - the coats were gone! Which color did your D choose?

D wanted a stainless steel water bottle from Klean Kanteen. It was 19.99 with 9.00 shipping. I looked around and found it for 16.99 with 5.00 shipping and then I found a coupon code to put in and the price was lowered to 13.99.

But the best deal was one my dh got. Roundfare tickets to Hawaii from Chicago for $440 and he is taking me!!!

Anyone know a place to get good deals on nalgene water bottles?

Onward, my son is at Northwestern and has asked for long johns for Christmas, so we are looking for a deal on those (my H has favorites from LL Bean, as he wears them throughout the winter, due to having to go to cold job sites at a moment’s notice). I can see why a trip to Hawaii would be lovely! The good thing is that S thinks its positively balmy weather here in the Northeast (26 degrees F yesterday, and windy but nothing like Evanston, IL, he says).

As far as Northface, I know that in addition to REI, Nordstrom and City Sports, if you have one near you, was discounting them significantly around Thanksgiving - all the current and popular styles.
