I think the Dickies, Haggar, and Dockers khakis are all pretty much the same thing. Each brand might fit a little differently and you have to compare apples to apples: never-iron/permanent crease to never iron/permanent crease, relaxed fit to relaxed fit, etc. This stuff is all made in the same factories with the same materials. The hard part is figuring out the buzzwords: never-iron is a more aggressive wrinkle-free fabric treatment than “wrinkle-free” and, if it doesn’t say never-iron or wrinkle free, you’ll never keep a crease in the pants (so casual, not work pants).

I think the biggest battle is sorting out the various fits. It’s hard to really know which you prefer without having the same same brand in a relaxed fit, a standard/classic fit, and a straight fit to really tell what is what. I can wear a relaxed or straight fit, but the “classic” or “standard” fit is my preference. Slim/hipster fit is not for us ol’ guys. I haven’t worn hip huggers since Woodstock and I don’t plan to anytime soon. Once you know that and the size, then it’s a lot easier to bargain shop.

WalMart is still showing the Dickies brand on-line.

Haggar and Dockers definitely have a different fit. One of my sons can wear Haggar and the son does not look good in those. I used to find Haggar to be less expensive although I have not checked lately, and lots of Haggar pants offer that “extra inch” stretch waistband.

I still find Dockers “no iron” varieties to look the neatest. They really had a big price jump over the last couple of years (I am talking about no iron, traditional colors). I refuse to pay $65/pair, or even $50/pair. Frankly, not quite as nice, but close enough, Kmart of all places has no iron similar looking men’s slacks for $20 at their regular prices (I have bought these for $12/pair).

I did take advantage of the dockers dot com offer for 4 pairs of men’s slacks at $30/pair included free shipping (no iron option and those usually cost more than the type that wrinkle). I thought that was a fair price (good pricing by their standards, and fair by mine ;)).

D and I hit the Gap at the mall today. All sale items were an additional 30% off. For just over 100 dollars she got a cordoroy jacket, two sweaters and 5 long sleeve t shirts and a belt and some underwear. The belt was a whopping $6.

Kohl’s sells the Iron-free Dockers at $40 - $44 and the Signature Khakis (which are “wrinkle-free/permanent crease”) for $33 - $36. Those are their everyday prices before the 15% or 20% off coupons. I had bought several pair of the Iron Free at Kohls which I took back when I lucked into the idential pants at Marshalls for $14.99 (in khaki and navy). I also found a pair of the Signature Khakis in black for $14.99. They probably need a little ironing for dress pants, but the crease is permanent, they are easy to iron, and they stay wrinkle free when you wear them. The iron-free treatment will eventually wear off all of these pants after dozens of washes.

You can order all sizes and colors on-line if they don’t have them in the stores:

Dockers tend to run a bit big in the waist. The Haggers without the stretchy waist tend to run a bit tight in the waist, I have found. I’ve got a couple pair of really nice Hagger cordurory pants that are tighter than the same size Dockers. These companies all cheat and make the waists a bit bigger than the indicated size. Dress pants tend to run more true to size. The wool Chaps mix 'n match suit separates are dead-on true to size. A 36 is a 36.

You learn a lot about mens pant sizes when you lose 8 inches off your waist in nine months!

I’m finally down to the stocking stuffers and think I found some deals online:

bestbuy.com had iPod speakers for young S which come with a remote and will also run off batteries for his camping/fishing trips…50% off and available for pickup at my local store (ships free anyway but is backordered online).

-walgreens.com I ordered a few pairs of JVC earbuds to go with it on sale for $4.99/pr (this kid goes thru alot of earbuds so I won’t buy him the expensive ones!), along with several cans of Blue Diamond wasabi/soy almonds (2/$4), and a whole bunch of Dove chocolates, Altoids, and assorted other stuff they like…the chocolates are on sale and Walgreens has free shipping over $25 and a coupon code for $10 off a $40 order (TEN40). Mr Rebates offers 6% back, so I spent $32 after rebate for $78 worth of stuff.

123inkjets.com had ink for their printers (and mine) with free shipping and a 25% off coupon (EOY123), plus $5 off for using Google checkout, and a whopping 22% rebate from Mr Rebates! Pretty sure that was the steal of the day for me, even if it’s an odd stocking gift!

local car wash is offering gift certificate books for 10 washes @ $35.00 (normally $7/wash), which they all love (so they don’t hear me nag about rust all winter long!).

I’m happy to have it done in one fell swoop…seems like I normally spend more to fill their stockings when I’m in the store randomly tossing things in a shopping cart and soooo very happy to stay inside and watch the snow fall instead of driving through it!

Btw, my D is taking an intercession class which starts on Monday and didn’t have time to search out the book during finals week. She assigned that task to me, her personal Girl Friday, and I ordered it from chegg on Monday afternoon…didn’t think to specify expedited shipping and was a bit worried about it due to holidays, but it was delivered today! I rented it since it’s a brand new edition which I could only find in paperback, and she doesn’t want to keep it anyway - only $34 plus $5 shipping (return shipping is free), which I thought was very fair for a brand new book selling at $150+. I’m especially thankful for their quick shipping!

Decided to do a little early birthday shopping while all the free shipping and coupon offers are out and found some decent deals at kohls.com. My shopping bag consisted of 2 pairs of Fila Walk n Sculpt toning shoes (reg 79.99, now 29.99 in black or white/pink); a Tek Gear hoodie (reg 40, now 16); and 2 NDS games for my nephew which are (reg 25, now 20)…so, less than $100 after the 20% off and earned a $10 Kohls cash certificate.

Noticed they also have the Kitchen Aid classic stand mixer (white only) for $199 and there’s a $20 rebate offer. The KA handmixer is on sale for $49. Combined with the 20% coupon for Kohl’s cardholders (CHRISTMAS20), this would be a great deal…

I had a 2 part coupon for DSW shoes. One was for 30% off one pair, but expired. The other part was for $10 off entire purchase.

I went to check out with two pairs of shoes: one at $50 and one at $35. Somehow, by the time the clerk was finished reading all the fine print, she charged me $60 for both pairs. Very pleased.

I’m finding it impossible to go shopping each day without checking this site…
anyway, I thought I saw somewhere about a buy 5 items get least expensive one free offer from Amazon…has anyone else seen this?? DD is waitng to place her order until I confirm this!

we are going out of town on the 22nd so unfortunately those upgrades won’t help.
However I did just order a ipod touch for moi- with the retinal display after deciding that an ipad is too frigging expensive & a kindle isn’t quite what I want.

I ordered from smalldog and not only do I not have to pay my areas 10% sales tax- but the applecare coverage is $10 cheaper than on Apples own site!
( and they also threw in an am/fm ipod clock radio)

Plus they have a leasing program which is a wonderful idea for electronics IMO.

Yep. The only way it works is to know that, for example, you wear a 10EE in a Brooks running shoe. Then, you can buy another pair of identical Brooks running shoes on-line.

That’s why Zappos has the free return shipping. Of course, they are charging outrageous prices (full-list) on most of their stuff.

I could order sneakers once I know my size with a brand, but not shoes. I saved lots of money ordering running sneakers from different stores, but shoes, one 9 is huge, another smaller.
