Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I use cast iron, well seasoned, and find it much better for searing than non-stick…have been using the same pans for at least 20 years. Best of all, it doesn’t matter how black the bottom gets:) I have two well-seasoned jellyroll pans and several clay trays and roasters that are great at not sticking too.

Our “Good Buy” was an amazing Home Depot gift card S purchased today at Office Max. It’s a long & involved story, but the total cost he paid to get it was about $20.02! He is pretty pleased that he was able to get this for his father’s belated Christmas gift, to help fix up the house. :)

Kohl’s – $36.00 women’s corduroy pants for $11.50. Why didn’t they just give them away?

Williams-Sonoma is having a good sale on holiday and other items. These little Christmas cookie cutter lights are very cute…and I never have many decorations for my kitchen, which is very open to the rest of the house, because I like clean countertops more! Thinking they will be nice attached to the undercounters with a bit of garland…

the Oneida site has great deals up to 80% off. I am trying to purchse some wooden spoons, and cooling racks, but I’ve been trying for about an hour. I’ve tried registering, or purchasing as a guest, but it never lets me get past the information page. The continue button is there, but it doesn’t do anything. I wonder if these places realize how much business they lose because their site doesn’t work?

There is a pottery barn outlet near the IL’s. They were having an after xmas sale. I found a gillian floor lamp on sale for 110 but was 50% off that at checkout so it was 55. I went back and got the matching table lamp which was 69.99 but nothing off that price (the sign at lighting said 25% off lamps but the sales clerk was being a pain). I told her I wouldn’t buy it as I was only picking up another lamp since the first one was marked down. The manager said fine, give it to her for 50% off the marked price so it was 35!

^^^^ Envious of that Pottery Barn find!!!

If anyone needs toys, Kohls is having a great clearance sale (online). I picked up a Disney Princess kitchen, with pots/pans, dishes etc originally $60, $10.xx shipped once I got done with all the codes, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on the Williams-Sonoma site, Sk8rmom. I love the cookie cutter window decorations. I got two sets because I don’t think one will fit around the picture window. I also picked up the cute decorating tubes of frosting for 99 cents each.

Got DH a banana republic dress shirt…slim size (very difficult to find things that fit him) for $7.99…tags on it…at Goodwill (regular price $70). Gotta love that place if you’re willing to scavenge.

Hickory Farms is now 75% off. Ordered the sausage special for brother in law.

Good scavenging Thumper! We went to Banana Republic yesterday and got t-shirts for $6.50 but older son hated the pattern and now I have to make a return - arrrgh!

Thanks Simba - I picked up 2 of the knit hats.

^ I got 4. Son has a habit of losing them. Now if I could just find gloves at that price.

memphismom, I don’t use a wok. I have limited storage space, and only own those gadgets and appliances and pans that I really need. There are quite a few of those - Kitchen Aid, Cuisinart, slow cooker, waffle iron, countertop grill, ice-cream maker, etc. If I am making a stir-fry, I use a regular pan. I’m sure the results are suboptimal.

How do you like your induction cooktop? I love mine.

kathiep, thanks for the Hickory Farm tip!

^^ Wait, induction countertops don’t work with woks? Is there a materials limit?

^ it has to be made of steel, and have a flat bottom

^Thanks, simba! I like that they’re made of recycled plastic. Was thinking of replacing some old cardboard boxes in the basement and I dislike huge heavy totes…these say they’re 24"L x 18"W x 15.75"" D is that right? The pic makes it look like they’re deeper than they are wide!
