Your Home, Your Wall Art

I remembered your walking stick discussion and photos from the hobbies thread and tracked it down for those interested. Because it was interesting!

Haha, OK! I thought someone might remember. I have to come clean and admit that some of the sticks were painted by my daughters. I wasn’t paying attention last night when I posted and forgot that! The one with the green leaves and the one with the purple diamond on top were painted by my artistic daughter when she was pretty young! And there are a couple painted by them when they were very young.

In the hobby convo, I think I mentioned I gave away most of my best ones. I’ve only made one recently, for someone I worked with who retired. I’m not as creative as I used to be. I asked his wife for a timeline of his significant career events and illustrated them from the bottom up. It turned out pretty well. He sent me a pic and it’s now part of HIS wall art!

Those are lovely sticks and even more special that some have stories and timelines.

We collect a lot of art, and we rotate it often. Here are a few treasures currently on our walls. (Sorry about the shadows.)

I like that you rotate it! Ours tends to stay forever, or until we move

Is there a story behind the robots??

The artist lives in Augusta, Georgia, where my in laws lived for many years. A downtown art store carries his work, and we used to buy a piece every year. My H has always been a huge robot fan (the little boy in him), and the robots make him smile. Speaking of smiling, the artist did a happy robot series that sparked us to collect his work.

Oh, and in the first picture in my post, you’ll see Peggy Fleming’s signature. My H wrote her, and she responded. (Edited for privacy)

A little off topic, but my current husband had to take down pics of my ex husband’s family after we’d been together for quite some time. I wasn’t trying to make a statement or anything, just whatever was “there” tended to say forever :).

Love it. I even have art in my closet because I have so many paintings!

I have 3 similar prints. I love them.

I like to buy prints or small paintings when I travel. Some are very small, but it makes me remember the trips when I see them.

I do the same and I didn’t think about it, but that is exactly how I feel when I look at them. They do have me think of the places.

I just bought this piece for $150 at Home Goods. I never spend much because I like to rotate art.

We also rotate the art. When I get tired of looking at something, I just take it down and put something else in its place. We have a pile of art in a spare room closet. Plenty of options.

We have a second pile of “gifts” from my in-laws that will never get hung in this house…or anywhere else I live. Just not our taste in style or color…or size. And we also have framed diplomas from HS and college for DHs dad and grand father. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I’m home now, here is another piece by my D1, and our Chinese folk art. The last two is are embroidered versions of folk art paintings.

Quite the collection! Beautiful! Just browsing through old threads that came up this am. Your middle piece was done at a point by someone in my neighborhood who sold extensively at fairs in the midwest. I have three of her pieces from this era, which I adore. She gave up doing such detailed work a while back, though her colorful whimsy continues.

The Monet cat? It’s one of my favorite pieces. So charming.

I am poor and tend to get canvases and other art I can rotate from thrift stores.

My two favorite pictures

The bison didn’t photograph well in that spot, too much glare from other angles.

The top picture was painted by a friend who got the house ‘template’ from a sepia postcard found in a junk shop where we were at Uni. She was always curious about the location and, amazingly, found the actual house in my hometown not more than 2 miles from where I grew up (200 ish miles from the junk shop!). She was a fantastic artist and lovely human, even if her art was in many ways quite disturbing.
