She’s on a steep trajectory pointing to success, so what would be the funniest, most bizarre justaposition…hmmm. Maybe marrying the village idiot?

That thought didn’t enter my mind. It may be that your thought processes are showing through.

But if you are granting a mulligan, I will gladly change it to intinerant pornographer as I don’t think Mr. Flynt (is he still alive?) moves around that much and as such wouldn’t serve my purpose.

Now, I have admitted my verbal carelessness and inappropriateness, apologized, been mortified someone would think I’m speaking ill of my father’s career, my nephew’s career, and have “edited” by a do-over (as much as we can) my comments to remove the offending language. Is there more you would like me to do? Or does the beating continue?

This thread reminds me of a toilet that keeps running. You hear it in the background, pop your head around the door to take a look and sure enough, the water’s still swirling but it’s not accomplishing anything anymore.

It’s not my house or I’d jiggle the handle.

Thanks B. It was an unexpected annoouncement. S confided in me last Sunday that he could never be proud of himself unless he did this. (This, from a kid who has always excelled in everything he has done.)

In his mind, he wants to contribute more than just acing organic chemistry. He has thought long and hard about this.

He said to me, “Mom, I have my whole life to pursue a career. I need to do this so that my kids will have the privileges and freedom that I have.” Wow is right…

It was me who chimed in with the feminist remark, not MOWC.

I was thinking about the chances of cur’s D finding a marine in Memphis–but apologies for offense caused.

My FIL is an ex-marine, ex Fortune 500 CEO. I think he would have been amused by the comment because he has a wicked sense of humour but I understand the sensitivity. My bad.

Sorry again.

Professional women do need to marry feminists though–marine or otherwise. That was my point.

Peace, moms (and everyone else too)! It’s Friday, it’s been a lonnnng week, and I think most of us are at, or approaching, an age at which a forum fight should be considered a silly endeavor and an age at which keeping tabs on the exact opinions of every contributor on a 90- page thread is too much for our working memory! I could add a mention of menopausal symptoms, but that would be sexist and someone would crucify me in no time.

Children, children, children (by which I mean no child in particular and all posters in general). What is going on here? This thread now has a reputation. Does anyone want to get back on topic? Or are we through with that? Because, right now, as I was mentioning to my fellow Sinners on that mellow thread, the posts I’m seeing here can be quickly condensed:

“Mo-o-o-m!!”
“He hit first!”
“No, you!”
“No, you!!”
“I’m telling!”

My niece gave up full ride scholarship to follow rodeo circuit boyfriend she met after starting college. Didn’t work out. She does regret it now, but still loves the rodeo. Married a military man two years ago.

shortlist, thank you. Your position is my position. It’s just that your’s should be given more weight. My mom did 23 years as a NCO’s wife. Korea and Vietnam. I was the resilient kid. Never hurt me any, that I couldn’t fix anyway. Those 3 moves in 3 years weren’t any fun 7,8,9th grade but I did learn 3 different ways to diagram sentences. .

As a side note, and somewhat back on topic. S decide to apply for this accelerated ROTC scholarsip on his own. Money was not the issue. In fact, my H told him that if he did this, we would not contribute any more money at all to his living expenses, etc. (You know how stubborn parents can be.)

His solution: he spent this past Spring Break taking a one week bartending class so that he could get a job that would pay more money so he’ll be able to work, but still do all the extra activities associated with ROTC requirements. In addition, he is still determined to graduate with a very high GPA and dual major. He paid for this class with the tax refund from last summer’s job. Go figure.

S called this week during the week and was very excited. This was unusual , because he usually calls only on weekends. His exciting news was that he landed a bartending job very close to campus. He told us not to worry, that he would be able to make it on his own. Again, go figure. This is the first time he was motivated to find a job. (H said we should have threatened to stop paying for everything three years ago!!)

The moral of our story is that if you send your kid to an elite school, he may land a job as a bartender AND join the Army… :)

Sure, zixxa. You tell this story NOW. LOL. But had I used “rodeo cowboy” I’m fairly sure some of these folks would have still been on my  . But I’d have felt a good bit better. And at least I wouldn’t be accused of dissing the Armed Services. That’s the part that stings. The beat down? Water off a duck’s back.

That was a good visual of your hubby, 1sokker. I can see him ‘laying down the law’–and your son going right past that tiny obstacle. Boys! They keep you hopping, don’t they?

Mine are always threatening to sign up. One has bad feet and the other will probably be recruited by the CIA before he gets the chance to sign up.

Careful now,Cur
there’s probably a family of carnies who will get offended next
or a family of pornographers

This thread is hilarious. It keeps me running back to the computer to see who is offended next, who is dissing who and who the latest hissing cockeroach to come out of the woodwork is.Thanks for a great weeks worth of entertainment!

But, given where you are from, wouldn’t some of the top students possibly be pretty active in rodeo? So all those people who think Texas is all cowboys and shotguns would probably have assumed you meant exactly what you intended. Or maybe not.

Oh, and curmudgeon - Houston and ranching doesn’t take a helicopter. My sister lives and works in Houston, owns a small ranch west down I-10 near the LaGrange area running 40-50 head of cattle with the help of neighbor rancher. 1 hr 15 minutes from her house to the ranch. Doesn’t commute to work at this time but will be starting her retirement home this summer on the property and is out every weekend. One of her co-workers has been commuting from her ranch in the same area for about 4 years thanks to flex-time so misses rush hour.

I think we should take a vote as to the best description for this thread:
A toilet that won’t stop running because the handle needs jiggling.
Hissing cockroaches coming out of the woodwork.
This is the first time something on CC made me laugh hysterically. It’s a good thing I have a day off today and I am not surreptiously reading CC at work :)

It pains me to think that lots of good work by lots of well meaning people , cc at it’s best, could be charectorized as such. This thread has utility but it is now so hidden within middle school rivalries it will be hard for anyone to find. It’s a sad state of affairs.
