It really depends on how I found out about it.

I have no problem with my child being sexually active as an adult.

I think my 22 year old has more of an issue with the thought of his mother and I being sexually active…

Yes, I bet you would get a more interesting reaction if you posted this on the high school forum: :D

^^^ Hee hee!

I guess it might depend on how they found out. ^^^^
Did they come home one weekend to find that their parents were " reconnecting" with each other, in the stairway?
Call first kids- or at least make noise when you come in.

Too funny EK, I can see this thread going to hell quickly.

I’m required to text/call home when I’m getting off the freeway going home.

It’s because they want to have milk and cookies laid out for me when I get there, obviously. No other reason. Nope, none.

Romani, are you Santa?

^ shh… ;)

Thanks for the laughs on some of the responses. I love the suggested question on the HS thread.

Beachlover - If your mom won’t talk to you about sex, please go to a doctor or Planned Parenthood and find out about birth control and disease prevention before becoming sexually active. I’ve been talking to my kids about the birds and the bees since they were in elementary school and they were both comfortable enough to discuss birth control with me and their doctor when they thought they were ready to have sex.

Laughing way too hard here!

Haha! Gotta love CC. To the OP: young adults of that age having sex is perfectly normal and healthy. Most young adults of that age have had/are having sex. Nothing wrong with that as long as it is consentual and safe. As parents, it’s our responsibility to educate our children about sexual health and good relationships. If we’ve done our job in that regard, one would hope that our children make good choices and we shouldn’t be surprised if they’re involved in a sexual relationship. In fact, if one of my Ds was in a committed relationship and not having sex, I’d be more worried than if she was.

^^^ Oh I was on BC well before I became sexually active. Mom knows about the BC.

BC pills will prevent pregnancy, but they won’t prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Oh I know about condoms. I’m 20, which makes me too old NOT to know.

^ Only about 65% of American adolescents receive instruction in sex ed.

You’d be truly amazed at what many people do not know. Or not, if you’ve ever been around vulnerable populations.

Yeah well, I have some sense. If you have time to learn Beyonce’s new song, you have time to learn about contraception.

There are a LOT of assumptions in that statement.

I’m sitting here at my desk, sifting through some papers on a relevant subject… Romani, I’m not surprised, I also wonder how many of the 65% get real instruction vs brief “use a condom, and you will be fine” kind of sex ed.

Well, OP, it is encouraging that you know about condoms. How much do you know about HPV and its transmission? A condom offers surprizingly little protection against HPV, but there are two HPV vaccines; both protect against the most dangerous types of the virus (16 and 18, responsible for about 70% of cervical cancers) and one of them also offers protection against the two types that cause the majority (ca. 90%) of genital warts (HPV 6 and 11). If the small risk of getting cervical cancer from HPV does not scare you, google pictures and description of genital warts…

[HPV Vaccine Information For Young Women](HPV Vaccine Information For Young Women)

Please get vaccinated to protect yourself against HBV and HPV and have regular medical checkups with testing for common STIs. Many bacterial STIs are easily treatable with antibiotics, but if left untreated, they can cause major health problems. It is also a good idea to ask your partner to get tested for STIs prior to having sex with him/her (believe me, there are people who do it).
