OMG!!! (yes, I sound like a teen girl!) Periodically, my H will bring home a gift for me, it’s usually something I a) don’t need b) don’t like or c) is useless!!! Anyway, last week H knocked it out of the park! He brought me a pair of wireless Apple Air Pods; when he gave them to me, my initial thought was ‘what the heck do I need these for? If I need headphones, a pair on a string will be fine.’ Well, how wrong I was! I LOVE THEM! There’s a whole new world opened up to me - Podcasts, Audiobooks, Meditation, even a new language! I can even have Siri write me texts!
Have you made any recent discoveries that you now cannot live without?
Just curious, how are the air pods different than earbuds?
I’m pretty happy with my Apple Watch. I can see texts without looking at my phone, even send short texts if needed.
But I really like the heart rate function and closing those silly rings. Charting my exercise and seeing the weather at a glance. Besides knowing the time of course.
@deb922 I don’t know how they are different, because I’ve never had earbuds either; however, the airpods are very comfortable, and the sound is amazing - and I love them! The only other headphones I have ever used, are over the ear noise canceling, which I use for long plane rides.
Just an aside-- I sing in a chorus and at the end of the first act the lights went off on stage and in the house and we could see little green rectangles going back and forth all over the hall. It was people applauding while wearing Apple watches.
AirPods are a game changer! Now I can listen to a podcast when I walk without getting my hands tangled in the wires. If I meet someone I want to chat with, I just remove one AirPod, and the podcast stops until I replace the AirPod again.
When I’m cooking and want to listen to a podcast or a TV show, the AirPods allow me to work without having my iPhone in my pocket (to connect the earbuds to).
Same issue when gardening. I could never use earbuds because with all the up and down, leaning over movements, either I got tangled in the wires or the wires would cause the phone to fall out of my pocket.
Just tap on the right AirPod and tell Siri to change the volume without needing to make the adjustments on the phone.
I bought a pair for each daughter at Christmas. They love them!
Also, if I get awake in the middle of the night and need to listen to a podcast to get back to sleep, AirPods allow me to do so without interfering with my husband’s sleep, and without accidentally strangling myself on the wires. ?
AirPods are very secure, not flimsy like earbuds, but the few times one slipped out I felt it immediately. And the only reason it slipped out was because I bumped it with the collar of my coat.
Just get in the habit of putting them in the battery case when not in use, so you don’t lose one. Also, begin a habit of keeping the battery case at designated locations, so you don’t lose it.
It took me a few wears to figure out that they are not worn the same way as earbuds; the air pods just nestle in the outer ‘shell’ - they are very comfortable and do not require rubber covers.
Veering off the technology path and heading straight for Old School, I’ve recently re-discovered fountain pens. I had one in grad school which got lost and never replaced, but then D became an aficionado and has gotten me hooked again.
@LasMa I love fountain pens! When H & I married (many moons ago!) we signed the registry with a fountain pen; while H always uses fountain pens in his day-to-day life, he still signs important docs with the pen he purchased for our marriage license!
