Your Opinion of Freshman Admits

I would like your honest opinion of the Freshman admits that you have interacted with at Berkeley.

Overall, I feel that the transfer students I've communicated with are much more mature, in a sense that they don't constantly have to constantly put other people down in order to fill up their ego.

Another thing I've noticed is that transfer students are much more motivated in their studies and much more skilled in their lower division coursework compared to the majority of freshman admits that I have talked to. I was accepted as a freshman admit, but decided the transfer route for personal reasons. While in high school, I felt that the majority of AP courses that I took were a joke, which leads me to believe that this is one of the sources of many sub-par freshman admits.

This is a dumb thread. Most of the kids at Berk aren't transfer students, so they just have to recall their past to get a feel for a freshman admit at Berk. Not to mention that it's hard to conjure up a general opinion of freshman admits because they come from many different backgrounds(international, oos, normal high school, diff parts of cali). I'm not saying that one can generalize Cal transfer students but it should be easier to because most of them came from CA community colleges and were taught under similar curriculum.

^That was a dumb reply that further strengthens my argument.

Also, this thread is intended for opinions coming from current transfer students, as a freshmen admit cannot give an honest opinion about themselves.

I haven't given any opinions regarding a freshman admit...just wanted to say something about this thread.

Yeah, stop posting threads like these if they're useless and don't help anyone!

The majority of threads on College Confidential are useless including a thread just like this about transfer students. Whether they are useless or not doesn't mean they are not open to discussion.

It seems as though now you know what it feels like to have people constantly putting you down for useless reasons.

my opinion on neophyte admits at Berkeley, solely based on that infamous thread about transfer(upper-class standing) admits is.....

yes freshman admits seem to have a false sense of superiority and entitlement.

transfer students have all their breadth requirements, major prerequisites out of the way and some come in with 70 units under their belt (may have even more but only 70 transfer over).

transfer students know what they want and to get to Berkeley they have used all the resources available to them... they know what is out there and can and do use the resources available more efficiently....we think like your mom and dad think. we have our shiz together.

the simple fact is we have already been the little chickies running around with their heads cut off trying to learn all the tricks...we have had our practice and we are smarter and more sustainable for it.

drop us in an unknown environment and we have confidence we can navigate ourselves and thrive... because we have been places and done things that (most/many) freshman admits have not done.

the internet hostility by a bunch of bitter anonymous freshmen towards the transfer students in this forum isn't the best representation of the student population and general opinion at Berkeley.

why? because if Berkeley is in fact as great as it promises it is...its great because of each and every one of the students they admit.

look at your hand, each finger has a purpose, each is different in length and ability and with out one of them your hand is weakened.

Not really. Most threads aren't useless...I've gotten a lot of information about classes, transportation, and RH/dining. These are all generalizations.

Well, I didn't mean to put down any transfer students by starting the thread asking for the general opinion of them at Berkeley. I actually think they deserve to be at Berk if they were admitted there, and should be thought of or treated the same as everyone else. However, I was just curious on what people normally think of them...that's all.

How very "mature" of you, as a transfer student, to create a thread to bash freshman admits. And don't even think about saying that this thread isn't meant that way.

Please, we're not idiots.

^I could say the exact same thing about you guys creating a thread to bash on transfers. Stop being a f ucking hypocrite.

Freshmen admits learn their "college maturity" skills during their freshman year at Berkeley. Transfer students do the same during their first year of community college.

There are people of different maturity levels, and it's unfair to compare freshmen admits to that of junior transfers. Instead, you should be comparing third-year students to junior transfers -- in which case, they're usually about the same maturity-wise.

I know I've learned a lot during my first year at Cal. Give the rest a chance.

I didn't create that thread. I do not equal every frosh admit just as you don't represent all transfers. So that argument's a bust. You however, did create this thread, so you are representing YOURSELF in this manner.

Au contraire, it is YOU who is the hypocrite.

Oh really? What do you call this thread then? How very "mature" of you that you don't "constantly put other people down in order to fill up" your bruised "ego." I didn't even have to say anything, in fact, you said it quite well yourself.
Seriously, grow up. I didn't like the transfer thread any more than you did, but if you think you're doing yourself any favors by starting an assholy topic like this, think again.

kthxbai.

People like you who have an inferiority complex usually are the ones who're defensive in threads like these and need the prestige of the school to carry them.

^big lols

:)

[sarcasm]
Yeah Berkeley should just stop admitting freshman because they're so immature and a waste of space!!
[/sarcasm]

^It's not sarcasm, its the truth...

^now that is sarcasm
