Your REAL feelings about supposedly elite colleges

I’m late to the party here, but with the NYU discussion upthread I’ll just say my oldest is a grad and she received an excellent education there ( College of Arts and Sciences), has a job related to her major. It worked for us :slight_smile:

@aps62797,

I think shoes are more popular than climbing walls. :slight_smile:

There is a real estate thread running in the parents cafe right now. Most of the posts are about NYC but you can post about Vancouver and see what comes up.

I like Vancouver but I couldn’t help you any.

Vancouver is the real estate equivalent of New York in Canada. Lots of rich Chinese buying places up driving prices sky high, and angering the locals who are now priced out.

@NoVADad99 That’s what I hear. Much like London. Indeed, I just went to an international housing event and they said Vancouver was second only to London. A 1-bedroom flat in a nice part of London is now going for $1.3 million. Incredible. You have to see it to believe it. Should have bought 10 years ago.

@aps62797 it’s like that nearly everywhere. We’ve been watching the real estate market in a few areas for decades, and we watched Tampa go from smoking hot to can’t give them away to well on its way back to smoking hot.

It’s all sort of crazy. Makes me want to buy one of those tiny houses on HGTV, put it on a barge, and just tow it to the fun areas to live.

My kids did not see any reasons to apply to any pricey Elite colleges and as parents we did not see any reason either. They are adults and have no regrets in regard to having attended the in-state publics. Looking back, we still have no idea why people are so crazy about attending an Elite college, but I say, go ahead, more of Merit awards is left for others who are definitely taking advance of it. I say, big fat “Thank you!”
