Oh I loved The Gods Must Be Crazy! Would anyone these days throw a Coca Cola bottle out of a plane?

2 do it for me:

Where’s Poppa (listed on IMDB as Going Ape, with the original title Where’s Poppa), with Ruth Gordon & George Segal (directed by Carl Reiner), 1970.

and

I Love You Alice B Toklas, with Peter Sellars (in fact, nearly any Peter Sellars film will do the trick), 1968.

Just reminded of Arthur (the original) with Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli & John Gielgud at his best! (1981)

Petter Sellers made me think of Jonh Cleese. I think A Fish called Wanda was another LOL movie.

Jacque Tati - Mon Oncle

Waiting for Guffman - hands down!

Great choices! And Dr. Google, as I read through the thread and thought of my own favorites, you mentioned them or seconded them if someone else had already written them down–I think we have similar tastes, at least in comedies!

So I agree on Peter Sellers, especially as Clousseau–I could use some Kato right now!–John Cleese and Michael Palin in A Fish Called Wanda, Monty Python in Holy Grail and Life of Brian, Full Monty (how about the scene in the unemployment line ), There’s Something About Mary (speaking of Ben Stiller, I also laughed out loud at many parts of Zoolander, though I know it isn’t as popular)…I have yet to see Bridesmaids, but from everything I’ve heard, I can’t wait.

My Favorite Year (1982) with Peter O’Toole as a washed up matinee idol.

The 1993 French film “Les Visiteurs” (“The Visitors”) with Jean Reno as a time-traveling knight.

Another huge favorite is “Galaxy Quest.”

H says National Lampoon’s Vacation

My kids would say Anchorman, Dodgeball and The Hangover.

Woody Allen’s Sleeper is definitely a classic.

For dark humor, Wag the Dog.

For me, what keeps coming to mind is a TV show… The Big Bang Theory. This show is consistently funny, week in and week out, without jumping the shark or being untrue to its characters. H and I laugh out loud at EVERY episode.

Groundhog Day with Bill Murray; I could watch it every year for the rest of my life and still find it funny. I’d forgotten about My Favorite Year; I loved that one too.

Another vote for “Something About Mary”.

I also howled the first time I saw Ghostbusters.

Best in Show. DH and I laughed until we cried.

“Bowfinger”. The whole premise of Eddie Murphy not realizing he’s been cast in a movie. Also “All of me” with Lily Tomlin’s voice in Steve Martin.

I used to laugh so hard watching Marx Brothers with my dad. When I tried to ‘introduce’ them to my European husband and stoic DD they just sat there, wondering what is wrong with me that I think it’s so funny. Talk about buzz kill! Same with Monty Python, have to watch it by myself…

I love so many of the movies listed here! As for actually laughing out loud, though, I would say Something About Mary and Borat made me giggle out loud (and yes, I am somewhat embarrassed that I find Borat so darn funny!).

My “Greatest Generation” Dad would say: Make Room for Sergeants with Andy Griffith. He LOL’ed when the latrine lids stood to salute him after a thorough cleaning.

S-2 would say: The Big Lebowski.

Me: Marx Bros and some Danny Kaye movies (classic), and Bridesmaids (recent) despite one famous gross scene.

One more vote for something about Mary! Haven’t seen Monty Python for ages, but I remember being excited to show it to my kids, who also enjoyed it.

Has anyone mentioned Animal House or Raising Arizona?

Oh, I forgot Animal House - very funny! I didn’t “get” Raising Arizona, though.

“Best in Show”
“The Jerk”
“Groundhog Day”
“Stripes”
“Airplane”
“Monty Python and the Holy Grail”
“Bridesmaids”
