Your top laugh out loud movies

A made in Vermont film “Man with a Plan” is hilarious.

Jackdad: It’s “What About Bob?” Line we still quote: “I’m sailing!”

This is my movie sweet spot. I love stupid comedy.
Although I love comedies, I really don’t like Jim Carrey movies. He makes me cringe.

Movies I haven’t seen listed yet:
Wedding Crashers
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Meet the Parents
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Sixteen Candles
Uncle Buck

Agree with the already listed above:
School of Rock
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Anchorman
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
Life of Brian
Bridesmaids
Zoolander (and anything else by Ben Stiller)
Anchorman
This is Spinal Tap
Airplane
Wayne’s World
Austin Powers
Animal House
A Mighty Wind
History of the World (Mel Brooks)
Talladega Nights

Horrible Bosses!

Yes, it’s Danny Kaye in The Court Jester (1956)! Bravura performance. Thanks for helping me with that reference. I also like “Secret Life of Walter Mitty” but Court Jester is more “laugh-out-loud.”

Sidenote: I was in NYC recently and wanted to see a new off-Broadway production called “Danny and Sylvia” about his marriage to another creative talent. Apparently the lead performs the Danny routines down to a “T.” But the show only played one weekday, alternating weeks, at a church, so I couldn’t schedule it.

UPDATE: it’s back! Saturdays at 2 p.m., St. Luke’s Theater. (Is that what I thought was a church?!) Ima going back to NYC.

Agreeing with absweetmarie about everything Preston Sturges. There’s a scene in “Sullivan’s Travels” where laughter is literally contagious.

Has anyone mentioned “In and Out” yet? It’s probably a bit dated today, but it’s a sweet movie with many laugh-out-loud moments, including what might be my nomination for funniest speech ever, featuring Joan Cusack.

I agree that Albert Brooks was excellent in “Drive” - Ryan Gosling, too - but the movie is way hipper than I am. If someone can explain what the director was thinking with the pink girlie font in the credit sequence, I’d appreciate it.

Here’s another - The Extra Man (streamable on Netflix). Kevin Kline should have been nominated for an Oscar for his role. (the book is great too)

Hugcheck, you left off Harold and Kumar. Can’t do that!

Not sure if I saw this one, but Stripes with Bill Murray always made me laugh out loud.
That and many scenes in Bridesmaids.

Dogma

thanks for collating!

HIMom - Did you say “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” wasn’t a movie? Not sure if its been hit in this thread, but it’s a wonderful movie with Zero Mostel. If you and D haven’t seen it, you must.

Thanks for the Netflix references. I’m always looking for something.

Most of mine are already listed, but the only movie I ever fell out of my seat in the theater laughing at, and more than once, was The Groove Tube. It was early 70s and I was in college. I don’t know how I would be today.

I’m shocked that, as a huge Sondheim fan, I’ve never sought out the movie version of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. It doesn’t appear to be available yet in Netflix, but it can be rented through Amazon. (Never seen the show either, but I’m quite sure I know about 85 percent of the lyrics to every song.)

I love all of these!

A few more…

What’s Up Doc? (Madelaine Kahn’s first movie)
Best in Show

Has anyone mentioned the old Pink Panther movies? Especially the ones with Herbert Lom.

And for B-grade humor - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

Flirting with Disaster – Ben Stiller as a grown adoptee on a quest to find his biological parents.

Several have already listed favorites including Something About Mary, Young Frankenstein, Shaun of the Dead, Gods Must Be Crazy, Monty Python films, so I will add just a few -

 • Kung Fu Hustle (hilarious film by Stephen Chow that opened the SFF a few years back)
 • Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Pedro Almodovar)
 • Black Dynamite (premiered at SFF 2 years ago… funny funny funny!)
 • Team America (laughing out loud now just thinking about certain scenes in the film)
 • Tucker and Dale vs Evil (I have a soft spot for horror comedies)

Favorites at our house include: Rat Race, The Hangover and Bridesmaids

My humor is very blue and I love all comedy, so I thought I would add a few
South Park movie
Major League (DH made me put it)
Mike Meyers scenes in the horrible movie View from the Top
Robin Williams in Aladdin
Beverly Hills Cop (just watched it again and was surprised at how well it held up
Legend of Drunken Master

For so bad its funny-Toxic Aveger

Not movies but if you ever get a chance to watch the exteended episode of Robin Williams on Inside the Actors Studio and Kevin Spacey episode-two of the best impression/improv moments ever.

Can’t believe no one mentioned Caddyshack. Bill Murray and Chevy Chase what could be better? I also love the old SNL stuff. Adam Sandlers lunch lady routine…cracks me up every time.

Wow, if you consider Adam Sandler’s stuff to be “old” SNL, then I am a dinosaur.

I thought Caddyshack had been mentioned. I love that movie too. I am being reminded about a lot of movies.

My favorites:

Wedding Crashers
Animal House
Something about Mary
Airplane
Best of Show
The Jerk
Blazing Saddles
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
