Compliment or insult?

Confusion.

Misdirection. Do you still have your wallet?

I don’t carry a wallet around, but no, I’m not missing anything.

Could it be a reference to you possibly being conservative? If that’s a good thing or not is up to you.

so you take it to mean I’m the colonizer? a lot of colonial endeavors are still guised as “liberal” peace projects though.

i suppose it could be liberal, but i know when i think of colonies i think of american colonies and the pilgrimages taken by all those people crossing the pond. colonial -> american colonies -> pilgrimage -> conservative. that’s my thought process.

“pilgrimage” as in missionary work? i’m definitely not into that.

I would take it to mean that while you claim to be being helpful to someone, you are in fact using them to further your own agenda because your assistance is contingent upon them buying into some kind of ideology of yours or accepting your values.

Or someone is doing that to you.

So, if I said it, it would not be complimentary. But if someone else said it, it could be complimentary, depending on their outlook and the context in which they said it.
