I have old TVs with streaming sticks, as well as a new “smart TV” that has a Roku streaming stick like interface. I notice little difference between the functionality with the streaming sticks and the smart TV. In both cases, when I turn on the TV, I either see the Roku menu or can directly skip to a particular streaming service. I do notice that the streaming sticks support codes for skipping directly to a larger number of streaming services than the smart TV – Hulu, Netflix, Paramount+, HBO, Disney, … everything I may use except Peacock. The streaming stick also has better portability, such as if you are traveling or want to switch to a different TV. If you wait for a good deal, quality smart sticks start at ~$20. In short, I don’t see a lot of value in holding off until you buy a new TV over getting a smart stick.
And when Amazon had their Prime Days and other various sales, you can get a Fire Tv Stick for really cheap. I have had 3 of them for at least 4 years and have never had a problem. They are nice and simple to set up and use.
This is sooooooo overdue. (Altice is the parent company of Optimum.) Maybe we’ll get a refund!!
Just to close out this topic –
Now that our billing seems relatively normal – no more partial credit for partial months, no more customer appreciation credits, etc. – it appears we’re saving $107.16 every month for eliminating cable and going with YouTube TV. I couldn’t be happier!
We don’t miss it AT ALL, just like everyone said.
And @conmama, we have a much greater selection of channels.
