Yes that’s right. I meant adding it to your library by adding a check mark.
That’s what we are doing right now! I haven’t cut the cord at our main home as we become accustomed to YTTV. DH is more apprehensive about it all, although he’s been the biggest complainer since he pays the bill.
So, I found YouTubeTV from the list on the left of the YouTube app yesterday (this is all on my Roku stick) I’m already signed in and it’s easy to get to. I’m on that 1 week free trial. Then I notice at the Roku Home Screen there is YouTubeTV (which is separate from the YouTube). I click that on, thinking it would take me to it immediately and I don’t have to go the the YouTube app. Nope…there is a code, I have to sign up! Why? Am I going to get a free week then charged for 2 things? I haven’t done that yet.
These are the things I’m try8ng to work out.
I haven’t tried to log onto the other TV’s yet.
Are you doing the free trial, and what did you have to do when accessing it for the first time on the other TV’s? Did they make you sign in with a code?
I think they will just ask you to sign in via your Google account. I doubt you would be charged twice.
You will not. I know this for a fact (I have a similar setup)
Oh good, I’ve been afraid to sign in with a new code. DH says he saw a $72 charge, but it says pending. It’s all a little confusing.
On Friday I signed up for the free trial. Then yesterday is when I found out I was in the youtube app, not youtube TV, then learned how to navigate it from there. That’s when they asked me to sign in, start with a code. I think it’s just odd on the actual YouTubeTV, it’s not already there now.
I have a 3 year old Samsung smart tv that just crapped out on me. It would turn on and off every 5 seconds. I googled for solutions, talked to Samsung help desk, my cable provider….one possible problem maybe my cable wire maybe damaged and it’s causing the smart tv to “recycle.” My cable wire is in my wall so it would be hard to replace.
I was speaking with my brother about it. He said, “why would you have cable? Just get a top of the line TV and get a streaming service (YouTube TV). You wouldn’t need a TiVo box with a wire into the TV and you could watch your shows anywhere. “
I like the idea of just having a TV without a cable box or other external devices.
I called up my internet/cable provider about the cost of of just having internet. I am currently laying 60 for cable/internet/phone because of a deal my building had cut with them. They said it would cost me $15 for the internet. YouTube TV is going to be 80, but it’ll be worth it to have a cleaner looking TV unit.
I just ordered an LG Oled 65”. I think I am going to be blinded by the light, but I am very excited.
I walked downstairs last night and DH was watching PBS news hour. I asked is that cable or YTTV? He sheepishly replied, I don’t know how to find this on that (he never tried). So I made the comment that it seems like he’s not wanting to get rid of cable! He said I need to figure it out how to make it all work. (In his defense he works hard all day and I’m retired). But he’s always been the tech guru, I flounder with it all and get confused.
Anyway, I made us get on it and figure out how to find the list of all the news channels to pick from like cable (it’s the “live” option at the top.) I’m going to force him to do this each evening. We still need to make sure we can get this on the other TV’s and still work with it. It may be another month or so until we cut the cord finally but that’s ok.
Or you could remove the cable line coming in to the back of your TV and pretend the service is already disconnected
Hiding the cable remotes will certainly force the learning curve!!
It sounds like you just need someone with some experience with YTTV to get you logged in, show you how to navigate and get you familiar and comfortable. I did that with my parents who are in their 70’s and they were off and running with no issues. It’s really not that complicated and not much different than cable but can seem complicated and intimidating until you realize that it really isn’t.
I appreciate all your commentary about getting it up and running. This would be is. I have to do all the tech stuff. I hate it because nothing ever ever ever works like it’s supposed to for me. H just sits there and whines if he can’t do what he wants exactly when he wants. I hate tech problems with a passion.
When I switched to cable internet, I paid the $100 tech fee for them to set it up. The guy was there for 8 hours. HE couldn’t get it to work and wound up restringing our whole house. Do you know what a nightmare that would have been for me? Best $100 ever spent lol
Wow what a deal you are paying for your services! $15 for internet? Unheard of!
We bought a 65 inch LG in the fall and it’s been a great picture. Never thought I would agree to that big of a tv but in the room it’s really a great size.
I poked around YTTV for a few minutes and was pleasantly surprised what I saw. After entering my zip code, I found out if carries all of our local stations, and almost every cable channel we watch (not sure if MSNBC was there–need to check again–EDIT: it’s there).
Certainly something to think about. Biggest thing would be giving up the land line–we’ve had that same number for 40+ years.
You could transfer the number to a cell phone, no?
I recently gave up my landline (had had it for almost 40 years). My father gave up his landline a few years ago, which my family had used since the 60’s. Sometimes you need to move on. (I am sure you don’t want to switch cell numbers at this point, I am sure your cell number is the one most people who call you already use).
So, I see several people here mentioned they still have a landline. I’m curious: do you get any real calls on your landline (not telemarketing/scam calls)?
I was still getting a few real calls on my landline. It was a number that vendors I had used from before I got my cell had - my hairdresser, exterminator, etc. I tried to get my new number to these people before I cut it off. Then I sold the house and moved and didn’t need any of these local vendors anymore anyway!
Just every so often. The reason we didn’t was 2 things. It hardly costs anything, like $5 a month with the triple play option. I don’t carry my phone around, so I like having a phone on each level of the house. I fell more secure with that actually. And before we went with it tuned to the internet, I like it as a real landline in case of emergencies when the kids were at home.
But now…only scammers and it’s not really a landline like before. If the power gives, so does the phone. Because I’m sick of the robocalls all the time, I’m glad to get rid of it.
We give everyone we do business with our landline number. Mobile is primarily for friends and family. We have ten cordless phones and speaker phones lying around the house and S22 calls us on the landline because he can get one of us quickly that way. Nomorobo is pretty good at screening scammer calls.
We have found it easier to use a PC to set up the shows we want to record. Just go to the webpage for YouTube TV and sign in. Using a keyboard is a little quicker than the onscreen keyboard. Once setup then the menu on the TV is easy to navigate to watch saved shows.
