YouTube TV, cutting the cord

Are you on the free trial right now? Maybe that’s the issue.

Just want to remind everyone that you can use up to 3 devices at the same time with YoutubeTV. If you are watching youtube TV on your computer, it is considered a device.

^^^ That’s interesting. Because it also says you can have up to six family members in “the family.” It’s entirely possible that more than three would be watching something different at the same time.

@conmoma: That’s an interesting point, but I doubt it. Unless I can get DH on with his own preferences, this isn’t gonna work. I’m waiting for him to go upstairs and read so I can fiddle with the smart TV.

Yes, 6 family members but only 3 devices can be operating at one time and within the same geographical location.

I am in NYC and my mom is in NJ, could I let my mom use my account?
I just turned off my cable. So far so good. I have selected all my favorite channels and I see their programming guide.

Yes, you can share the YouTube TV account with people who are not living with you. I was using it in two residences I went between in two different states.

Yes, with your Mom in NJ who share the same broadcasting market, you can share it with her. I can sign into my Youtube TV account in NYC but it recognizes that I am in a different broadcasting market and asks if I am visiting temporarily or that I have moved. However, I cannot share Youtube TV with my daughter who lives in NY so I had to sign up with youtube TV in CA. Originally we were sharing, but Youtube TV like Netflix, detected our different geographical areas.

@DadOfJerseyGirl : Thanks for that info. I chatted with the support person and he pointed out that I added DH to the account I have with Google under my gmail accout – but I’m signed up for YouTube TV under my AOL account! So he instructed me how to fix it. (Delete DH from my family group under the gmail acct; send him an invitation while I’m in the AOL YouTube acct.) DH and I will be setting it up correctly ( :crossed_fingers:) in the next hour or so.

Ah! Ok, that explains it. Glad you got it resolved.

So here’s an annoyance with YouTube TV:

We have an office right off the kitchen/family room. There’s a TV in the office, and there’s a TV in the family room. I often have both on, as I shuttle back and forth while I’m making dinner. When I turn them both on to the same station, they aren’t synchronized!!

Yes, I’ve noticed that. But it happened when we had cable, too.

It doesn’t happen to us when we use cable. (We still have it connected for another few weeks.)

Maybe this was already addressed, but I thought each YTTV profile had to be linked to a different gmail address. We just set up a new email for an additional profile. Maybe there’s another way to do it but that worked for us.

My profile is set to my aol email, not my gmail.

OK, CC fount of wisdom:

How do we find a channel that shows local weather?? Our cable provider has such a channel that we usually check during the day. (Easier than looking out the window. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) I went to The Weather Channel this morning but it showed me the termperature in Oklahoma City. Don’t live there; don’t care.

ETA: I checked, and our location on YouTube TV is correct. But, where’s the local station??

I don’t believe you can get local weather channels in YouTube TV. I don’t need this feature (I use the weather apps on my phone instead) so didn’t notice this gap until you mentioned it.

I checked online and it looks like the workaround for this is to install the Weather Channel app on your TV. It will ask you to sign in with a TV provider, and you can choose to sign in to YTTV. But this is a separate app - not something within YTTV.

This oddly makes me curious if residents in Oklahoma City are getting your local weather. If so perhaps you can just call one another as any “easy” fix😀

@DadOfJerseyGirl : What do you mean, “install The Weather Channel app on our TV”?

First, where would I find that?

Second, how would I do that?

And third, we only have one smart TV; for the other two, I’m using Roku sticks. Does that make a difference??

(BTW, I was so f’ing proud of myself yesterday for getting YTTV up and running on all three of my TVs!! I had to take a detour to get a wifi extender up and running – which took two days – but now everything is working the way it should. The remaining challenge is educating the users.)

Hold on – I’m working on it. I may be able to do this on my own.

Or maybe not.
