@partyof5, I like Zara so much I thank my lucky stars it hasn’t yet made it to my state. Danger!
I have no idea what Zara is. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of it before this thread. Are they a big deal?
Very big, successful European chain. From Spain, actually. An upscale H&M.
Never heard of them before this thread.
I thought they were talking about Zara Phillips. Shows how much I know!!!
I’d never heard of them either. Assumed they were some sort of upstart.
Then again, I’m a terrible person to ask about fashion. I think I might be able to name no more than 2 lines of clothing even with a gun to my head.
Zara is part of Inditex. To give an idea of what the company is worth, its founder surpassed Bill Gates (briefly) as the richest man on earth. There are several thousand Zara outlets and the company is making an online push. The company is known for short production runs and a maniacal devotion to logistics.
An amazing success story.
There you go. The world’s biggest clothing retailer has not made it into all US states… and only has one store in my state. “Zara? What’s that?” Apparently, not too popular in the US outside of a small circle of devotees.
I do not like our store, but I always pay a visit to one store in Stockholm.
There is a Zara every 500 feet in many cities in Europe. Think what the GAP used to be here, years ago. They’re kind of like H&M. Fast fashion, lots of style turnover, inexpensive price and ok quality.
You know, Panera bread used to sell a fabulous low-carb wheat bread – it was remarkably tasty. When they quit selling it, I asked them why, and of course it was basic economics: no one bought it (but me, apparently).
29 million people in the US have diabetes, and yet the taste and variety of low-carb products are deplorable. You’d think that someone could come up with a half-way decent low-carb twinkie by now!
@katliamom Im with you. Thank goodness one hasnt made it to my state. I absolutely love Zara
Actually…there are 52 of them in the USA.

^^Compare that to roughly 500 Banana Republic stores in the US…
My celiac father is please to be riding the wave of the fad, he says—life is much, much easier these days.
That said, when I clicked through and saw the picture, I thought the outrage must have been because someone read it as promoting cannibalism or something (since humans would, presumably, be gluten-free), probably because of its juxtaposition with the ultra-skinny model wearing it. But that’s just me being my naturally twisted self, so whatever.
Anyway, haven’t checked with my father, but my celiac sister kind of wishes she’d gone out and bought one for her and her celiac kids before they got pulled, because she’d enjoy wearing it. Go figure.
There are a ton of gluten-free tshirts for anyone who is interested in purchasing them. They may not be Zara’s brand, but there are many others. H and I prefer not to plaster words across our chests, but I now many others think it’s cool and cute.
