08-09 Auditions

Here are the audition dates for this year…

November 15, 2008
January 24, 2009
January 31, 2009
February 14, 2009
February 28, 2009

The fall musical (Parade) will be playing during the Nov 15th audition.

Also, Vicky Bussert (the head of the program) is directing Into the Woods at Great Lakes Theatre Festival this fall which features some past and present BW students (including me, I’m playing Jack!). The show is also premiering in the newly renovated and historic Hanna Theatre in Downtown Cleveland. The show is great, it just closed a sold out run at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival in Boise. So those of you interested so definitely think about coming.

Good luck this year!

Hello, I’m a MT hopeful in Florida audition for fall of 09’ entrance. I have been looking all over, and I can’t seem to find B-W’s audition locations. I recall seeing them somewhere, but I can’t remember where. It would be very helpful if someone would help me out. I remember seeing them coming down to Florida in January.

Thank you so much :)

Here you go!

[Baldwin-Wallace :: Conservatory Audition Portfolio](http://www.bw.edu/admission/apply/conservatory/audition.asp)

BW will be in Tampa on January 7, 2009.

Unless things have changed in the last few years, off-campus auditions are for the Conservatory, but NOT for the musical theatre program.

Out of curiosity, I looked at everything on the B-W site. And they really do not make it very clear about the off campus auditions not being for MT. On some pages, they list the off campus dates and site with no mention whether MT are included off campus. However, I just found on the pdf version of the Conservatory Audition Portfolio, in small print under the section about accompanists, the following:

So, I think MusThCC is correct that MT auditions are not off campus. I think they could revise their information a little bit to make that clearer. For the ON campus auditions, they indicate for each date what it includes, such as MT, voice, etc. but for off campus dates, they just list dates without any mention of what fields those dates include. It is only in small print with the information about accompanists, that they mention that MT auditions are not accommodated at the off site auditions. And they don’t just mean that there is no accompanist as they ALSO mention that on another line.

I remember last year we were confused about MT auditions off campus, as well. It was not very clear and after being told by someone at BW that MT auditions were on campus only did we find the same section that Soozievt quoted. We were told that some time in the future they may participate in Chicago Unifieds but not last audition season. I also remember having fun at BW and that their audition day was very informative, very organized and full of very nice enthusiastic staff and students!!

Wow - just got back from the auditions yesterday with my daughter, and was so impressed by this school! The audition day was well organized, the current students were so helpful. We saw “Parade” that evening - wonderful!

I was wondering, has anybody heard from BW yet? I auditioned on the 15th, its my top choice, and I want to go there more than anything. I havent received any info, admitence or not yet. Has anybody else received anything?

No, we haven’t heard anything yet,.
I’m getting impatient, too - but they said the 15th of Dec., so I think we gotta just hold on and keep our hopes up!

I auditioned on the 15th, and I haven’t heard anything either. I’m just trying not to think about it! ha! I didn’t have my best audition ever, so I’m not really expecting anything! But, it would be nice to know so I can put it past me!

Well, i got my BW letter…I was waitlisted. At least it means im still half being considered, right? Lol, I havnt compleatly gotten the boot…

svb,
I think that is a very positive outcome. You are still in the running. B-W has a small program and I doubt they want to accept very many this soon when there are many more auditions to go and so I am sure they hold onto a small number that they are still considering until they see more auditionees and so I hope you feel positive that you are still being considered and it is still very early in the audition season. Good for you so far!

Got rejected from BW… unfortunately. I’m bummed, not going to lie, but it’s okay. On to the next thing!

musicislife,
I am sorry for the disappointing news and you have a right to be bummed out. Just remember that you can only attend one school. So, it is not a contest to see how many you can get into. It would be nice to end up with options, of course, With the very low admit rates to these programs, it is nearly impossible to get into all the ones on your list and so come to expect some rejections. Just keep your head up for the remaining auditions and know this is part of the deal. I hope some other schools come through for you. It is a difficult process but hang in there.

PS, remember you admitted that you had not had your best audition ever and so that likely played a part in the outcome. So, think through what didn’t go as well as you had hoped and work on whatever that was and start the next audition fresh. It is a learning process and many find that their auditions improve as the season wears on.

Thanks soozievt. You are very right that I can only attend one school. Rejection IS part of this, and I know I better get used to it because it’s the business! BW wasn’t in the cards for me, and I’m just looking forward to my next auditions!

Musicislife - Sorry for your bad news from BW. Keep your chin up and believe, and it will happen for you somewhere!
svb0000 - I think wait list sounds reasonable under the circumstances. I can’t imagine that they are going to accept very many right off the bat this early - with so many more auditions to come. Hang in there!!
Nothing in our mailbox today from BW - but we live quite a ways from Cleveland. Our wait continues…

soozievt:
I am so happy that you reply on these posts! My mom and I did discuss my being wait listed at BW, and I feel much better about it. Like you said it is very early, they still have 4 more auditions to go, and will probably see about 200 more kids. As far as I know, BW will accept 16 this year. In the waitlist letter I recieved, BW said last year they wait listed 64 students (that was for the entire conservatory, not just for MT). So although Im not sure how many of those kids were MT students, but I cant imagine the number being over 15 or 20. Anita Evans (the conservatory admissions director) told me she was expecting about 200-250 kids to audition this year. If they accept 16, and wait list 20, that means they reject somewhere in the neighborhood of 180-210 kids. Once my mommy discussed that with me, I was pleased with a wait list letter! Thanks again for your kind words!

MTmomma:
I’m sure you’ll receive something soon! My letter was dated December 1st, and I got it today (the 4). And thank you for your kind words as well!

svb, your mom is right…you are now on a much narrowed down list and so no matter what happens in the end, feel good that you have made it this far. You still have a chance of being admitted of course. But you have definitely made a cut that was no easy feat. But I am sure you are applying to many schools and what truly matters is the overall result. You are not going to get into all of them most likely and can just attend one anyway. So, expect some not to come through. But the wait list is a positive sign for you and be happy for now that you have gotten that far at B-W and good luck with the rest of your auditions.

Has anyone heard if there were any acceptances from the November auditions?
