10th grade re-class CHANCE ME for Hotchkiss and Deerfield

Hi!
I’m planning to reclass for Hotchkiss and Deerfield.
I’m still debating whether or not to spend all this energy on applying to schools since I already attend a known T30-40 boarding school. However, the resources, community, and facilities are very lacking and I’m not able to do much and have not received much support either. It has a toxic environment and is so remote it’s hard to find in person and diverse opportunities I want that other boarding schools offer me.

Grades:
9th grade: Overall 99 weighted 98 unweighted (honors chem, and honors painting 2)
10th grade: Overall weighted 99 97 unweighted (3 APs)

ECS:
(Hoping to go into premed)

  • Intern at a hospital (6 hours a week every summer) - researched molecular biology and determining a protein that can help diagnose heart diseases
  • Shadowed a thoracic surgeon (5 hours)
  • Volunteered at hospital (24 hours a week during summer)
  • President and founder of an inter school health club (5 well known schools)
  • Author of my own children’s book on Alzheimer’s and the digestive system
  • Math and science tutor at my school (incredibly selective position 10 hour a week)
  • Play the piano at a retirement home (1 hour a week 40 weeks a year)
  • Chinese nationally commended studio artist
  • Band pianist (3 years) - grade 8 ABRSM performance level
  • Student government for 8years (including at the boarding school I’m at for 2 years)
  • Yearbook club editor ( 1year)
  • Taekwondo (10 years and hoping to go into wrestling) - I don’t know if ill add this
  • Learn To Be tutor for immigrant children (2 hours every week 40 weeks a year)

Awards:

  • Presidential community service award - silver
  • Distinguished scholar at my school
  • UKMT gold
  • Bebras distinction
  • School Engagement award
  • School science award
  • Middle school science fair winner
  • Chinese National art award (3) - first prize

I think I still lack things and especially with me not being an athlete will make it harder. (Unless you count mountain biking and wrestling but I don’t do it competitively)
I’m wondering if you think with these stats I should still apply or not?
It’s still in the back of my mind and I want to set my mind on reapplying if I have a chance.

I don’t understand why you’d reapply if you already attend a T40 boarding school, which is a very good thing in its own right. The difference in opportunity shouldn’t be that disparate, right?

Current HK parent here. To be very honest, I think it’s a long shot at HK. They do add add about 20-30 students to the 10th grade class every year (depends on how many 9th graders they have return) but from my understanding most of those students are there to “fill out” the class - so definitely athletes are overrepresented in that group. HK does have a competitive mountain biking team that I believe they are always looking for new members. But your overall application is strong - have you done your interview yet? I think the interview is a really important part of the admissions decision. It’s just a tough go at HK for 10th grade as an unhooked student. However, if you are from a underrepresented area… that might help?

Credentials aside, if your explanation for wanting to transfer to either Hotchkiss or Deerfield is that these schools are not remote, the admissions folks at those schools will probably have a hard time believing you.

Both of those schools are on the remote end of the spectrum when compared to peer schools.
