Oi… it’s going to be lots of rejections… lol

Wonderful! A forum for us idiots! Just kidding…
While you’re reviewing my stats, let me know what you think of my chances…

SAT: 1270 (630V, 640M) SAT Writing: 630, GPA =2.9 (cumulitive, weighted). current senior gpa= 4.1
have taken AP stats (3), currently taking AP Gov’t
first three years attended competitive, international school
now i’m attending an average public.
weak ECs, 1 very strong recommendation f/ old counselor. hopefully will qualify for in-state tuition as these are the only schools I’m applying to:

(agree with the rankings of the schools?)

Virginia Commonwealth Univ. (safety)
George Mason Univ. (good match)
James Madison Univ. (good match/reach)
Univ. of Mary Washington (reach)
Virginia Tech (high reach, but not entirely impossible)

So, what’s the final verdict? I especially want to know what you think, hhboyji? Really interested to see how you’ll fair with some of those schools…(btw, i think you’re pretty much in at JMU and UMW)

sorry, the only college i know from your list is virginia tech, and i applied there too. r u in-state for virginia? i think your SAT is well above their average, but your GPA is about .6 lower, their engineering average gpa is about 3.5 (dunno if that’s weighted or not, probably not). anyway, good luck to both of us :)

The NATIONAL average for seniors is around 1,000. There is no shame in a 1200-1300 score at all - you are all above average and there are many, many fine colleges out there who would be happy to accept you and even offer merit money! Best of luck to you all.

hey! i thought i’d come by here and give all y’all a shoutout as i jus got dissed by my brother for my 1370 which i was quite happy bout as i got 750 on my verbal but nooooooooo that didn’t stop him from calling me stupid
so noo i’m not giving any more money to ets although i know i could get a better score and yes many over-achievers i know can eat their score report for all i care!
rant over
sorry!

Crazyforee, What a great post,it is refreshing! My D started at a 1210, retook for a 1290 and ended a third try with 1320. Her other stats are must better but these long tests can be a killer. It can be hard to study as much as needed for them when taking AP classes, and being involved in all the activities you guys juggle. At least it is behind everyone now! Thanks for starting the thread!!

crazyforee: i HOPE that I’m in-state. I’ve already submitted my in-state application, but I’m not so sure that I’ll quality. anyway, i don’t think my SAT score is above average for VaTech. Isn’t it more like a 1260? Good luck to you, too.

hey no problem arizona mom, glad u like the thread, hope everyone else does, coz i got over 1000 views i hope this thread is helpful to everyone though, not just myself :)

i was reading about this liberal arts college which stopped requiring SATs and then after about 5 years they found that the people who submitted their SATs to help in their admissions and the people who didnt get the same grades. im a hundred percent sure that a lot of kids who get 1200-1300 if they went to harvard they would not perform that bad

okay, a 1200+ isnt exactly LOW, they are low compared to overachievers that spend days studying for the SAT, they’re low compared to super smart kids that get straight As and 1600s regardless, but to an average kid that doesnt do extra homework in thirst for knowledge and isn’t super brilliant, a 1200 is actually pretty high. of course, i’m probably just saying this in defense for myself. anyways, heres what i got:
1270 sat
28 act
4.0 gpa
ec: tutor, hospital volunteer, somehow arbitrarily got 200+ hours on transcript
accepted ed: jhu
oh , im a siemens semi finalist and has done research in 2 labs in the past 2 years

well, being a sem finalist for siemens will get u into a lot of top colleges, impressive. my friends are last year’s winner from north carolina school of science and math, smart asses!!!

neh, not to say im a smartass, but im just trying to say that a 1200+ SAT is NOT bad, like someone has mentioned, its above 75% of the rest of the people who took it. so if those who got 1200+ is bad…then what do you call the other 75%? ■■■■■■■■? no i dont think so. also, my gpa is unweighted, not some stupid inflated gpa. a 1200+ sat is only bad given my two conditions and if u read too much of CC, where everyone supposedly get 1500s…some people are just bad at testing, and i got that siemens semi from only 2 and a half months of work in a whole new lab…having to adjust to the people/techniques as well as doing TWO experiments at once, one on the computer and in the lab…so basically what im saying here is that you guys shouldnt bring yourself, and others, down by saying that a 1200 sat is bad…because its really not. also, dont think that a 1600 or a 1400+ sat is gonna get you into harvard unless you have great gpa as well as ECs. also, i was accepted to jhu and OFFERED (not accepted cause id idnt apply) BME…so that just disproves the OP’s whole “low SAT score” idea and if anyone reading this thing feels bad for getting LOWER than a 1200…you shouldnt, becuase 1200 may be far from 1600…but its good for an average kid. unless of course you take 8 AP classes senior year and ahve no friends, or you’re just the next einstein, then maybe you should feel bad, but if you’re the typical lazy high school kid, then be proud of yourself. thats the moral of the story. sorry if i offended anyone with this post, its the truth.
