1610 to 2000 jump possible?

Well here it goes…

I took the SAT for the first time in march i think… and i got

470 Reading
620 Math
520 Writing

which is a 1610… now… ive been doing the Grubers Book… mostly vocab and math…

and I feel improved…but i need more help…

Im taking practice tests every weekend till my SAT in october…

I would like to score above 2000 because my GPA (3.65) sucks and i have okay ECs…

oh yeah i took the subject tests and they didnt help me either…

770 US history
650 chem…

and my AP exam scores arent even stellar…

4 AP WORLD
4 AP US
2 AP PHYSICS
3 AP CHEM

Basically, i need a way to improve myself in AP exams as well as the SAT…

MOSTLY SAT though…

Is it possible for me to score in the 2000s, I try to spend 1 to 2 hours each day during the week on SAT. Im having issues doing Grubers large word list… It has like 100k words but i started it in June and it just keeps going and going… I need a better, faster and more leaner word list. (im looking for lists in the 1000s or 5000s range)

I have an enormous amount of dedication to this because i feel this is the only thing on my application that will help me get into the college i want.

Colleges I’d like to get into are: University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, University of Chicago, and Harvard and U Penn for the kicks of joy…

So please, assist me in giving me ideas on how to improve even more. If i dont get 2000 or higher in October, im going to take it again in December since im applying in January.

Im doing this so I dont disappoint my parents and I can actually get into a good school.

I am a senior, with five AP classes and finding time to study efficiently is hard with all the school works and clubs I do.

Even though, I still force myself to study.

“I am a senior, with five AP classes and finding time to study efficiently is hard with all the school works and clubs I do.”

No, it’s not hard at all. You’re just not hardworking enough. There’s millions of people out there - even I as a sophomore - who go through more than you do. Suck it up.

With a 2000 SAT:

UofG - Reach

George tech - Reach

UofC, U Penn, Harvard (?!?) - Rejection

I still study, even if it causes me to stay up at nights to finish my school HW.

“Im doing this so I dont disappoint my parents and I can actually get into a good school.”
Great motivation, indeed!

That’s ridiculous. I took 4 APs soph year and scarcely stayed after 12, even with coming home late. I assume you do a lot of procrastination

All of those colleges, regardless of a 2000 SAT score, are reaches and extremely improbable. You should start thinking about some realistic schools.

It’s the harsh reality of your current situation. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with attending a community college or a lesser tier college. And who cares about your parents views on college? It’s your life, not theirs.

^… isnt that a bit low… You think i can’t get into any college so thus I must go to a community college?

AND NO I DO NOT PROCASTINATE, I use to during sophomore year and the 1st semester of junior year but now I DO NOT.

I SPEND MY TIME EQUALLY DIVIDED,

2pm -4 pm clubs
4pm-5pm lunch/ break
5 pm -7 pm SAT
7 pm -11 pm HW… on some days i stay up reviewing the test material over and over again…

no helpful posts yet…this is amazing… ive just only been criticized for my actions and told I should give up from a recent message…

YES IT IS POSSIBLE.
I went from a 147 to a 2000 in the summer. What I did was take collegeboard offical practice tests, went over every answer, read silverturtle’s guide for the basics, and Gruber’s for math.

For vocab, Direct Hits 2011 is a miracle worker. I used Grammatix for how to attack the passages. Sparknotes’s Grammar guide which can be found online helped me with writing. For writing essay, I used Grammatix.

I’d say the jump is possible… just work hard.

Dude I started out with a 1420 on my freshman PSAT and i jumped to a 2180 on my SAT junior year, without any significant studying at all (some reading passages here and there, and one practice test without an essay, I’ll admit). I guess I took it seriously and paid attention on test day. Anything is possible, man.

And who cares about AP scores. Colleges don’t give a rat’s *** about them. It only matters that you took the class, so colleges see that you challenged yourself. Now for the score itself, the only significance it holds is if you want credit. It’s not going to make it or break it for you. You’ve taken four AP’s and that’s pretty impressive.

So don’t dwell. Take it easy. It doesn’t take a genius to get a 2400. Just try to get used to their logic and you are guaranteed to do fine.

^^^^ Well exactly what advice ARE you looking for? 1610 to 2000 jump possible? Yes, no, maybe so - it’s all unique for everyone which means there is NO EXACT answer to your problem. Can someone turn black to white? Yes it’s possible as with Michael Jackson. Can you jump 30 ft? Yes it’s possible. Anything is possible. That’s just a stupid question. You didn’t even have to start this thread for suggestions either if you just read Silverturtle’s stickied guide.

What I find even far more ridiculous is the fact that you are doing this for your parents so as to not disappoint them. That’s pretty sad don’t you think? That makes me wonder if you have ever pondered on any other use and purpose in society that you possess. BTW, if you want to go to any of those schools, which I’m going to blunt with you are sure-fire rejections, you can’t expect finding the easy way out of everything. Your lazy, minimalistic attitude will not help you at all in life…I mean seriously, “I still force myself to study.” How can you expect to succeed in anything? YOU JUST STUDY AND REMEMBER THE FACTS, SIMPLE AS THAT.

^^^ look at my join date

This PM was sent to me by the OP. Apparently, if a person dares to cross this person’s deluded dreams of attending Harvard with a 1600 SAT score, we should all twiddle our thumbs and lie through our teeths.

I did not state that your attempt was futile, only improbable. I said improbable and not impossible because it is not impossible.

If you have the arrogance to so stupidly resent community college and the millions of students who attend such schools, you are deluding yourself.

Community college is not beneath you. It is a completely viable option to attend a community college for two years and transfer out to another higher tier university.

And I don’t care what your current situation is, was or will be–I made assumptions because you never told me what your current situation was.

Your arrogance precedes your rudeness. You are pretentious and obviously self loathing and extremely insecure to have sent me this message.

Do not message me again. Your accusatory tone was completely uncalled for.

You are, as previously stated, in what is clearly a deluded state of mind if you believe that you will attend Harvard or Chicago U with an SAT score that is almost 700 points below the accepted averages.

Good luck, you will need it.

You definitely have a chance to get into U Georgia and maybe even Georgia Tech. GT has like a 60% acceptance rate. They’ve accepted students with low SAT scores and mediocre GPA’s before. I honestly don’t know about the others. I really can’t say anything about your chances since the process is completely subjective.

There is no formula, but college do look for the best applicants, and unfortunately use the SATs (Harvard = 2300+). I’ve never heard of anybody getting into Harvard with a score lower than a 2300, even with other amazing stats. But of course, as you mentioned, there are those few instances when something amazing happens (there’s no doubt about that!). But who cares? You said you were doing it just for kicks.

In my opinion, it’s not an accurate measure of your IQ. If you are really struggling, then just take the ACTs and don’t send in you SAT scores through score choice. The ACTs are easier.

Good luck with whatever you’re trying to do. There are too many great colleges out there to say that you are completely f***ed for life.

^^^

First of all , I said applying to Harvard and other places was for kicks, to see if I would get in because sometimes average people do get in.

Secondly, you shouldn’t have assumed in the first place since that was wrong on your part.

Thirdly, How are my chances at going to any college diminished ?

I was never arrogant to begin with, your assumptions are self centered and rude.
I also said id like points on how to improve.

Thank you for voicing your opinion. It was in extremely bad taste to post that message, and I apologize for doing it.

I’ve removed it from my previous post.

Apparently, nothing is getting through to you.

Colleges, for the most part, only look at extra curricular activities to help weed out the best and brightest out of a pool of applicants that are truly the best and the brightest.

If student A has an SAT score of 2400 and a GPA of 4.0 and student B has an SAT score of 2400 and a GPA of 4.0, what exactly do you think is going to be the determining factor to choose between the two if student A has no ECs but student B is just loaded with them?

Your extra curricular activities are admirable. I say that with all sincerity. However, you are deluding yourself if you believe you will attend most of those listed schools with your current stats.

Community college seems to just FILL you with a blind hatred, doesn’t it? It’s truly a shame because it really is a viable option for ANY student, whatever their stats.

Points on improvement? Get a higher SAT score, try and improve your GPA however you can, and start thinking realistically about colleges.

With a 2000 SAT I don’t think UofG of Gtech would be reachs, maybe I am wrong though…
