Syracuse was beautiful last weekend…though we know its in the snow belt!!

Question to those who had been excepted. My daughter has a 3.65 with three AP courses last year and this year. 6680 and 650 SATs How hard is it to get in gradewise ?? I think her audition went well…hard to tell

From the little you shared, your D is above average for the stats of those accepted to Syracuse University. Her academics should not be a significant problem there and the school is an “easier match” for her.

megnut, I agree with soozievt as far as the grades go for admission ,however although she may meet the grade criteria all schools are looking for different combinations of students to fill their student bodies. As we all know here so many things can happen…my D was accepted as an OOS to UNC Chapel Hill (much harder to get into academically than Syracuse) was turned down by Syracuse and then accepted into the Mt program. She then received a welcome to Syracuse letter in May. By that time she had made her choice and was set on her decision. She did have a friend who was notified in May( came off the wait list) and did accept their offer. Her friend withdrew from the school she had initially made her committment to…so anything can happen!

Its sooo hard to tell where you may or may not get in…even with decent grades. I know from last year with my son you really can’t count on any school with all the competition out there! It seems in MT you have to wait longer for schools such as Penn State, since the auditions go through the winter.

Mhappiness…What happened at Syracuse that your daughter didnt get in then got into MT later I don’t understand that one… Was she early decision?

My D is auditioning at Syracuse on January 19th and Ithaca on the 20th (& University of Miami on the 18th!). I’m a bit nervous about the weather but appreciate the advice from Onstage about the AWD or 4-wheel drive car rental. Any advice for hotels in either city?

Regarding hotels in Syracuse, there’s a Sheraton right across from campus. Actually, it feels like it’s a part of the campus. I have stayed there and it’s fine. The STudent AFfairs office there has a long list of hotels as well. While I’m on this site because my son is applying to theatre schools(not Syracuse because his sister goes there and he wants his own school), my daughter is a sophomore history major at SU. Loves the school! Was a B student in high school–we call it the A+ school for B students. The snow was minimal last year, the easiest winter in years. Let’s see how this year works out. Good luck to all!

My son and I toured Syracuse last April. I was able to get a hotel room on Priceline for $70. My son will be presenting his portfolio on 12/3. He is applying for Stage Management. We we able to get the same hotel for the same price on Priceline. It’s the Renaissance Syracuse Downtown. It’s right on East Genesee Street. About 3 blocks away from the theatre department.

Sarahlsmom… we attended a full open house in October when it was 75 degrees! It was beautiful up there. We attended a full open house. There was a meeting for the college and then it was broken down into departments with different guides taking different groups. Very organized. The adults were given nice informative tours by students of the facilities as well as an overview by faculty with question and answers. In the meantime the kids went to their auditions. They danced first, then sang and did their monologue in another room. Make sure you’re student is dressed to dance right away because its hard to change once things get underway. Good Luck!

Yes, the dance audition will be 2 combinations: one jazz, one ballet.

Regarding hotels, the Renaissance is a nice one, as is the Genesee Grande, just down the street from the Syracuse Stage. The Sheraton is lovely but pricier. There is also a very nice B&B about 10 minutes away called the Bed & Breakfast Wellington.

In Ithaca, we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn. It’s less than 10 minutes from campus, and very nice.

Good luck with your auditions in January. Feel free to PM me if you need any further help.

My daughter is currently in the MT program. We’ve stayed at all of the hotels in town. The one that we liked that is most convienent to the theatre is called the Parkview. It’s the closest and about a minute’s walk. It’s a seven minute walk (uphill)to the main part of campus.

There is also a nice (pub like) restaurant across the street from the theatre called Phoebes. I found this a nice place to hang out while I waited for my daughter to audition. The Parkview also has a little cafe where you can get a sandwich and wait.

I’m auditioning on Jan 19th as well. I think I am the AM session.
I’m staying at the sheraton alone and without a car it seems so I’m super nervous. Anyone else staying there?

Don’t worry, you won’t need a car. You are only a few blocks from both the theater and the main campus. Just be sure to bring WARM clothes, boots, hat and scarf. It’s probably going to be cold, maybe snowy, definitely windy.

I’m getting really excited!!! I’m from Ohio so my dad isn’t looking forward to the long drive up to Syracuse lol. Can’t wait to meet everyone in the PM session on January 19th!!

I believe so. I’m also auditioning in DC on the 12th. Are you morning or afternoon session? I’m afternoon. I’m really excited, my first audition after a (well deserved) 2 month break.

freedom_fri911, she is in the afternoon session, so you two (and me, too!) will no doubt cross paths. PM me if you want to try to say hello. (We can figure out how to know who each other is. :))She is very excited about auditioning for Syracuse because she LOVED the school when we visited last fall. Break a leg! :)
