2010-2011 Audition dates for Acting programs

To help us all save time, and to help people who are looking for new ideas for schools, or for making their schedules work, here is a running list of audition dates for Acting programs.

Many schools have not posted their 10-11 dates yet, but as they do, please add any that you know about.

Let’s assume the programs are BFA, but please put in parentheses if the program is a BA, and if it is an audition or an interview. Please try to add to the list in alphabetical order.

Thank you! I’ll start with a couple that I do know, and we can take off from there:

Illinois State University (BA, audition): Thursday, November 11, 2010, 2 p.m. (also a University Open House Day); Saturday, February 5, 2011, 10 a.m. (at Chicago Academy for the Arts); Saturday, February 19, 2011, 10 a.m. (also a School of Theatre Open House Day); Friday, April 1, 11 a.m. (for sequence admission only, not for scholarship consideration).

Illinois Wesleyan University: Jan. 29, 2011; Feb. 12, 2011; Feb. 19, 2011 (for BA, an interview is required, to be scheduled individually; one may also audition for the BFA in the same year)

According to the Tisch website, audition scheduling will not be open until October 1. When they open it up, you have to move with lightning speed! (We were a little slow on this when my son applied two years ago…so I’m warning others.)

There are a large number of dates, but the most desirable slots get snapped up very fast.

Tisch is one of the schools where you don’t have to have submitted your application in order to schedule an audition. At a great many schools, you do. For newbies, be aware that audition fees are in addition to application fees, and the costs can mount up fast.

Unified Audition dates: New York, Feb 5,6; Chicago, Feb 7, 8, 9; Las Vegas, Feb 10; Los Angeles, Feb 12,13 2011

It is highly recommended that you make individual appointments with the schools of your choice. Walk-ins are said to be available (schools which allow a walk-in audition usually require a very quick submission of an official application).

Below is a list from the Unifieds website of schools that will officially be present. Please post any schools that also “set up shop” at the same time and place as Unifieds.

I know Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD, one of the UK’s top acting and music schools) has auditioned students at Unifieds in the past. Our son attended Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and has just graduated from RSAMD with a 3 year BA in Acting from this amazing conservatory. Below you can find some contact information, if you wish to attend a European school for classical theatre training…

Anyone know of other schools that are present at the Unifieds locations on the Unifieds dates without being on the Unifieds List?

I have heard that Syracuse, Carnegie Mellon, Boston University and SUNY Purchase will be present. What about UMinn/Guthrie? It’s very time consuming to look at every school’s website individually.

I believe the RSAMD is not the only international school that will be there, but I can’t even begin to start searching for those.

If you know anything, it sure would help everyone to post it here.

LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) was at the LA Unifieds last year and they were at the Unifieds hotel. You could do a walk-in audition with no fee.

PITTSBURGH at CMU
Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19-20
Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27

You have to fill out the application to get the ID number you need to sign up for an audition. Sign ups start after September 1. Acting and MT auditions are on alternate days in some locations.

Texas State University will be holding auditions at the Chicago Unified auditions. (I heard they were there last year also). But it looks like you still need to submit a DVD pre-screen

RSAMD is ranked #4 as the “10 Best Acting Schools in the World” on this site:
[10 Best Acting Schools In The World | Made Manual](http://www.mademan.com/mm/10-best-acting-schools-world.html)
It’s an amazing option for US students who desire classical training.

My D will be applying ED in Nov. October 1st is date audition scheduling begins. Can you please tell me what makes it desirable to sign up asap?

Can you audition before your application is in?

I appreciate any help or advice you or anyone might have.
Thanks

maggie - which school are you talking about? Each school has different policies.

Emmybet, I was talking about NYU.

My D will also be applying to other schools in January if she does not get in ED.

Should she be signing up for a unified audition in NY for the colleges that she
would consider applying if they are there? This is entire process is so stressful and
confusing. I appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have.

Thanks :)

*Students who live in the New York tri-state area must attend an on-campus audition.

The Unified Auditions website states that each school has its own way to arrange an appointment at Unifieds. Yes, this process is confusing and a lot of work. But just take each school at a time and you’ll be fine. Check to make sure if you have to have an academic acceptance before scheduling auditions; some require this and some don’t.

Good luck with NYU!

Has anyone learned which hotel each school will use for auditions in Chicago?

Just an FYI that NYU slots are filling up fast! We were caught offguard and had to pivot on D’s audition plans. So don’t delay!

Congrats on having auditions scheduled! We have only one in hand so far, since every other school requires that the application be completed first, and CA essay isn’t done yet!!! Only one school requires an acceptance before scheduling, fortunately. But my hands are tied for the time being … D may find herself shut out of auditions if she doesn’t move in the next week or so, although I’m thinking/hoping Chicago Unifieds aren’t quite as hard to get slots at as NYC or some of the on-campus ones.
