2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Long time obsessive reader, first time poster -

Anybody heard anything from Columbia dbmi post-interview day?

Hi there, “undecided” status for a rolling admission program means anything positive?

+anyone that got into BSTP at Case but not interested?

@macrophage I’m still waiting to hear from UChicago BMS as well. I don’t really care as I’ve already accepted another offer, but it would be nice to get an answer one way or another from them.

@GCN2, yup I will be there! Have already arrived to NYC…are you coming for the visit?

@variola
thanks so much! Also, since you’ve accepted another offer already, will you tell them no thanks regardless? I have a feeling we’re on some sort of waiting list…

Thanks to the people who responded about Wash U. I’m still waiting, apparently we’ll hear this week. I got into some other amazing places, but I really liked WashU, I’ll be really sad if I get bad news (but its what I’m anticipating will happen now). On that note, if you got in at WashU dev bio and know you aren’t going there… please let them know :)

were anyone in Caltech BMB interview last week? Have anyone heard back from the skl yet?
or did anyone go to their Chem interview, and can tell me how long it took for u to know the result?
i know BMB dept may differ from Chem dept, but just wanna have a general idea of how long i need to wait.

@macrophage If I get an acceptance I’ll be sure to decline it as soon as possible, just in case there’s someone on a waitlist. I think the acceptances/waitlists are cluster specific though, I interviewed for MPMM, what did you interview for?

[edit] Also, i haven’t seen any reports of acceptances out of UChicago BMS on thegradcafe.com yet. They may not have sent them out yet. [/edit]

@molbio

If all the important factors are equal (PI’s of research interest, supportive community) I would go for the city you like more. I’m also torn between Yale and WashU for neuroscience, although for PI interest and student community I will probably go to Yale if I don’t get my top choice. If those things weren’t a factor I would go to WashU–the grad housing is super close to campus, the weather is relatively mild, there’s a big park for getting some nature time, and it’s super cheap to have a really decent apartment. I think those things are important, so if you’re leaning towards St. Louis over New Haven, I think you should go WashU. Then again, if it’s important to you to be near cities, go to Yale since it’s only 2 hours from Boston or New York.

Ive just got phone- interviewed by JHU’s medicial school for Pathobiology… crosses fingers

Is there a re-visit weekend for Wash U? Someone on Grad Cafe mentioned it, but I haven’t heard anything from them about coming back.

Hi All,

I’ve been a long time ghost on this forum, and it’s helped keep me sane throughout this whole process.

I guess I’ve come out of the woodwork, as I’m having a hard time deciding between two schools. I’m interested in stem cell/developmental and regenerative biology. but as to much more detail than that - don’t have any. I’m trying to decide between UMich PIBS and UPENN DSRB…

any thoughts?

And congrads to everyone all all the acceptances!

@ molbio

Yes, there is a revisit weekend, but it seems not everyone who was accepted got invited. I think the theme of the weekend is diversity, and it’s mainly the people who applied for the Chancellor’s Fellowship and so forth.

Finally first acceptance!!!

UMich EEB

I guess I’ll give my final update on everything! Thankfully I got everything figured out before spring break, so I can actually relax when it rolls around.

Attending:…Harvard!

Love the research, the change of atmosphere from my undergrad, and I just got “the feeling” about the program. Congrats to everyone else making their decisions!

Hey congrats Pipettekid. I am still not done :frowning: . BBS definitely is one of my top choices =D .

Hey do you guys send a thank you email when the professor of your interest send the unofficial email of acceptance to you?

I feel like I should send them an email when Ive made my decision then tell

Anyone heard from Stanford Biosciences post-interview?

hey choijae,

i would probably send an email saying something like “thank you so much, that’s excellent news! i will be sure to get in touch with you as soon as i’ve made the decision on where to attend”…something along those lines, just so you acknowledge the email, but also acknowledge that you’re not decided yet?

ScienceChick: I just got a call from a professor that I have been accepted to the Biology program. :slight_smile:
He caught me just when I left the shower and really managed to surprise me.
