Jixani: Thanks for your response! I guess that means it’s not necessarily too late yet. I’ve been spazzing that maybe the phone calls had all gone out Mon and Tues. I suppose I won’t mourn with hard liquor until the day is out. Huge congrats to you Jixani! You’re a rockstar.

I don’t know what they told you, but as far as I know there are schools that take weeks to reach their final decisions. So I guess there is plenty of time for the good news to get to you.

Regarding Stanford Biosciences:
Invitations for admission will be sent shortly and final selections made by March 12.

Thanks ezypeezy. That’s very helpful! Hope your username is an apt description of how you’re finding admissions this year :)

Science Chick:

What program did you interview with at Stanford? I interviewed with Cancer Biology and they said it would be the end of this week that they would get back to us. Has anyone heard from them?

amyrin, I heard decisions will be made next week. Hang in there!

Thanks for the insight Amyrin! I PMed you. :)

Mini-update about Stanford:
I emailed the DGS of the department asking for a paper he has in press that we discussed in our interview that he’d intended to print for me in his office. We’d run late in talking and forgot in the rush. In his response he added, “It was a pleasure meeting you. We will be back to you when we have an admissions decision.” This at least suggests they haven’t decided yet or else he’d know I had a phone call or rejection e-mail on the way. Right? Ugh.

Is this specific for cancer bio?

Yes, this is for cancer bio.

Can we please have a collective Happy Hour on April 15th at a given time when this bs is all over?

Waitlisted at UChicago E&E…

:(

how does this waitlist system work? cuz I mean schools already pick a bunch of people for acceptance and I feel the probability of the majority of those people not accepting the offer to be very low

@choijae

How did you find out about UChicago? Did you call the department? Its the last school I’m waiting for and before I commit to NYU I want to make sure its a reject. Did you interview as well?

To: Choijae and Hoyaphd

Even really good schools tend to have only a 50% matriculation rate from the people they accept. I wouldn’t lose hope!

I have just called IGP (at Northwestern U.) to know the status of my application (since it’s been completed like forever, and I have not heard a word from them) and the lady told me that they started reviewing applications from int’l applicants this week, and that they should be done soon (by the end of this week or next week).
Well, I know that some int’l applicants have already heard from IGP, so I am not sure how that works (maybe they live in the US?), but for people in the same situation as me (int’l and living overseas), don’t lose hope! Who knows, we might still hear good news?!

@hoyaphd

i emailed the graduate coordinater and one the profs replied back saying that Im on the waitlist. I feel like if you havent recieved anything from UChicago’s E&E yet Im afraid your on the waiting list.
BTW hoyaphd you mentioned NYU. Did you apply to NYU biology? Cuz I did and after the interview I havent heard back from them either.

@choijae

I just got the official email from NYU Biology yesterday. I had an unofficial acceptance in the beginning of March. Someone else on gradcafe had a similar experience. I am not E&E though. I applied to UChicago GGSB and NYU Genomics and Bioinformatics, that might make a difference in both programs.

@ScienceChick

Absolutely! I’m bringing the gin.

I read in another thread that “NYU is notoriously late,” and it rings true. Son just got an email from them (Sackler Bio) that 2 of the 4 professors that he interviewed with 2 weeks ago hadn’t submitted any of their evaluations, so his decision won’t be made until the admissions people meet next Weds. Another week of nailbiting. He’s got 2 acceptances, but NYU is first choice. Fingers crossed.
