2011 Going off their waitlist

I saw on another site that a young woman got into Mt. Holyoke from the waitlist just this week.

These summer/extended waitlists are tough. I know my kid will get a call as soon as I buy the plane tickets or commit to a tuition payment plan to her not-quite-as-beloved-school. Not sure I want her to get a call at this point, but the waitlist school is beloved! About 8 months ago I said “as long as we don’t have to deal with a summer waitlist, I’ll be fine.” Argh!

A friend of ours got into UPenn yesterday off of their waitlist. That means a spot is opening up at Northwestern that will need to be filled.

^ Congratulations to your friend on the spot at UPenn. I do want to point out for other members, this does not necessarily mean that Northwestern will take someone off their waitlist. It is not always a drop-add situation. They may be slightly over target and have already accounted for summer-melt. They may be under-enrolled and extending offers to one area (say OOS in a certain major). If the person leaving is instate in another major this will create no movement. I just know there are students and parents who are still very anxious and to hear that another student has given up a spot at their dream school can really raise hopes.

Also to note would be post #429 on 6/3:

UNC has closed their wait list. Go to their Admissions Blog.

Vanderbilt announced via email this afternoon that their waitlist was closed as of today.

My son got a call from Harvey Mudd on Thursday that he is off the waitlist. Was his number 1 choice but now has to decide if he can get his head into another school at this point. He has deposited at WPI and is most concerned about the 1/3 coursework in humanities at Mudd. Any insights for him? Mudd is a fabulous school but is it worth losing the 15K/year merit WPI has given him? Awaiting financial package from HMC but don’t expect much. Would love some input.

peacock, I’ve only heard positives abt H M and the other colleges in area. Other CCers have kids at HM, & should offer good insight in morning. Meawhile, congrat!!!

Any decision…WPI is a great school…tough to turn down the $15k.

pcpeacock - Has he made a decision? Will he stay at WPI or go to H M? Or are you still waiting for the H M aid package?
