2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

@WindSlicer

I really like the weekend. My only criticism is that they didn’t organize time very well, but that’s only a minor consideration. Overall, I thought all of the faculty and students were welcoming and happy, and the program itself, very strong.

UCSD BMS acceptance via email just now. I was there this past weekend. Now I’m officially done!

Applied: UCB, UCD, UCLA, UCSD, UCSF, Scripps, Harvard, Columbia, Stanford

Interviewed/accepted: UCB, UCD, UCLA, UCSD

Attending: UCLA (ACCESS program)

:) :)

Anyone been rejected by UCSD biological sciences? Last I checked, I was still “under consideration”…

@ Rabbitstew

Congratulations, i sent you a message talk to you soon

rejected from interviews: ucsd bms, ucsf tetrad
interviewed & accepted: princeton mol bio, MIT bio, cal tech bio, berkeley mcb, stanford biosciences biology, rockefeller

now that interviews are for the most part over, wondering what everyone’s impression was with each program, i like berkeley the most right now but i’ve met great faculty at most places

Agreed with seniorchang. While I cannot comment on the programs you visited, this is where I’m at:

Interviewed and accepted: washu molecular genetics and genomics, unc bbsp, ucsd bms, wisconsin genetics, emory gmb, uwashington genome sciences, mount sinai

rejected: yale

already turned down emory, but I’m equally torn between washu, unc, and ucsd – great faculty, great training programs, and great vibes from all those program for me…

Has anyone else heard from Stanford Biosciences (Biology specificallly)? Its great to hear someone has heard back!

accepted to baylor CMB!

@deisgrad: received stanford biology rejection in the last week of feb by post.

Anyone heard from Emory MMG?

Here are my stats in case it helps:

Rejected (no interview): Wiscosin-Madison MDTP

Interviewed (all micro/immuno programs): Mich PiBS, UT-Austin, UNC BBSP, Emory MMG, UGA, UAB

Accepted: UT-Austin, UNC BBSP, UGA, UAB

Rejected: Mich PiBS

Attending (if Emory rejects): UNC BBSP…loved it. Amazing faculty for bacterial pathogenesis.

I meant post-interview from Stanford Bio… if you haven’t heard from Stanford Biosciences by now for an interview, their only weekend has already passed.

Has anyone who interviewed with Maryland’s Molecular Medicine Program heard back yet?

I interviewed on February 18th and was told that some people might hear back in the next week, with others hearing back after the final interview (this past Friday). Should I be worried? Does anyone know Maryland’s acceptance stats?

Thanks, and congrats on those who know where they’ll be this fall!

Stanford Biology is making calls!

Congrats to everyone already accepted :)

And has anyone heard from UCLA ACCESS since mid february?
@amy311 when did you interview?

Thanks

anyone have thoughts about the school of mcb at UIUC?

Anybody has any updates about MIT CSBi program?

Whew, done with interviews. It’s definitely an interesting process, but I’m glad it’s over. Summary of stuff if anyone is interested:

Applied: UCSD Biological Sciences, UCLA ACCESS, UCSF Tetrad, UC Berkeley MCB, Stanford Biological Sciences (Biology), UC Davis BMCDB

Interviews/Acceptances: All

Going to: No clue. It’ll be between UCB, UCSF, and Stanford. Gonna be tough, each school has its pros and cons.

Hi,

Has anybody heard from Berkeley, Brown, or Boston U for Epidemiology PhD? I saw that a couple people got acceptances from Boston, but does that mean they’re done with admissions?

Good luck to everybody and congrats to those who’ve been accepted :)

Alright, I’m pretty much done though I haven’t turned in any decisions yet:

Applied: Gerstner Sloan-Kettering, Watson School of the Biological Sciences (Cold Spring Harbor), UCSD Biomedical Sciences, Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, Immunology Track), UCLA ACCESS, MIT Biology

Rejected: MIT Biology

Interviewed & Accepted: Everywhere else

Attending: GSK

Where’s all the neuroscience results? I’ve heard from most places, but has anyone heard from UCSF for Stanford. I hear Stanford Biosci was making calls, but perhaps not for Neuro?

I’m looking for some advice…

I’m a M.Sc. biotechnology student with 3.65 GPA. I am doing extensive research and hopefully will have a publication in the works. I graduated with a B.Sc. in microbiology with 3.5 GPA. Unfortunately, I have a terrible GRE score - 1090 (640Q, 450V, 3.5W). I’m scheduled to retake the GRE, but thinking worse case and I get the same score.

I’m wondering about how competitive I would be at these schools:
Emory: MMG
UPitt: IBGP
U of Minnesota: MiCaB
U of Rochester: Immuno and micro
U of Mich: PIBS
OHSU: PMCB

Thanks for any advice!
