2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

has anyone heard anything from NYU neural sceince?
i know their interviews start in feb and they did say they are in the midst of apps reviews, but i’m curious…

@ngsfan
I applied to BC biology (computational) I haven’t heard anything from them yet.

I haven’t heard anything from a couple of programs and I dont know if they just start the review process late, but I still am waiting on Tulane, BC, and Georgia Tech.

@CompuBio
I am interested in Marth lab and developing sequence assembly algorithms. What about you?

@ ngsfan
Thats funny because I am also interested in the Marth Lab but in identifying SNPs.

@CompuBio
Hmm…
What is the chance he is going to take in two students in a year?

Thanks everyone. I spoke to the faculty member and she said she spoke with admissions and that her hands are tied at this point. She also said she knew there were a decent number of students ahead of me on the waiting list. I think I might email another prospective faculty member and see what they can do, but for the most part I really feel SOL on this. If Stanford and UCSD were closer, I think I might have been able to split the weekend, but that doesn’t look possible. In situations like this, I really don’t understand why they wouldn’t attempt a phone interview. I guess their program is just too popular. C’est la vie.

I don’t understand why they won’t let you interview at some other time. I mean, I know it must depend on the program, but if I couldn’t reschedule interviews, I’m not sure what I’d do. I mean, you’re not exactly asking them to hold all of the fancy interview-weekend-extravaganza events just for you! Anyway, that totally bites :(

@ngsfan

I dont know i also mentioned the Clote lab on my application. I just want to start hearing hard yes/no’s already.

Hey guys, did anyone hear anything from U at Buffalo?

@Immunol I received an informal email saying basically that I was overqualified and that they were not a backup school. I guess it is fair tho…

@pharmnerd

Wow, that’s kind of harsh, though! I applied to a couple programs I feel overqualified for, but it’s because I really want to get my PhD. I’m not going to make the mistake of just applying to the top programs; I feel underqualified for those …

@Immunol

I applied to UBuffalo’s affiliated program at RPCI and heard from them last week. Recruitment weekend is Mar 3-5.

@ngsfan

I applied to BU Bioinformatics and have not heard back. I saw one post on Gradcafe that someone was direct admitted with IGERT fellowship though.

I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned here, but did anyone else apply to Dartmouth PEMM?

Rockefeller is still sending out acceptances!

@ pharmnerd
Yeah, “wow”!

@ Imm2010
Do you know if they are done sending interview invitations?

@ DeisGrad
Great! Did you get invited or you heard from them?

Hi everyone,

I just found these forums, and I wish I would have seen them sooner!

I was wondering if someone could give me the low down on some of the programs I’ve applied to. So far, I have been accepted to Harvard BBS, and I have interviews at the following:

Yale - BBS/MGCD
Johns Hopkins - CMDB (and also the NIH GPP; what should I do about these two?)
University of Pittsburgh - Interdisciplinary Biomedical program
UPenn - CAMB
UNC Chapel Hill - BBS
Carnegie Mellon University - Biology and Biomedical Engineering

I have not heard from the following:

MIT Biology
Caltech Biology
Virginia Tech/Wake Forest - Biomedical engineering (degree is conferred by VT, but I want to do research at WFIRM)
Stanford Biosciences
Berkeley - Molecular Biology (I know these interviews were already sent out)

If anyone knows whether these programs have sent out interviews or are done sending them out, I’d greatly appreciate the information.

Thanks!

@Immunol

Received an invite via snail mail today

@ender776

I bet MIT Biology is done… the date to RSVP to their interview invites (with dates extending into March) was ages ago.

Stanford Biosciences has been sending out invites but it seems different home programs may send out invites at different times

@mbr484 I did… haven’t heard back from them yet, i wish they reply earlier cause im booked all the way til mid march…

Just got an email invitation from the Scripps Research Institute (Biology track). I was getting worried I’d applied to too few of schools.

Interviews so far:
Berkeley MCB
UCSD BMS
Scripps Biology

Silent treatment:
UCSF Tetrad (no hope)
Stanford Biosciences (Genetics… still holding out a shred of hope)
