2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

domesticcc

Changed my flight for tomorrow. Leaving Boston at 10:35a to escape the continuation of the snowpocalypse! Very nervous–it’s going to be my first interview!

@biology123

What exactly did you ask in your email to the admissions director? I’m really curious about my status too but I don’t know what to write in my email to him.

So, I am still waiting to hear from a lot of schools. And I honestly haven’t seen a whole lot for these programs on here or gradcafe (except for a rogue post here and there). I have seen results from other similar programs at these schools, but not these exact programs. If anyone knows anything about these programs it would be very helpful:

Boston University School of Medicine - Biochemistry
UMass med school (Worcester)- Basic Biological Sciences
Johns Hopkins - Biological Chemistry

Also, does anyone know the status of UCSD Biological Sciences??

@Phirah
I haven’t been able to officially change my flight, but I plan on flying standby for an 8 am flight (there are plenty of seats available, so it shouldn’t be an issue). I am glad it worked out for both of us!! This is also my first interview (and most important, since Berkeley is my top choice), so excited/nervous! Best of luck to you!!

good luck @phirah and @digioral!!! berkeley is an amazing school, i really wish i could go back and do it all over again. go bearssss

er… I just logged in to my application at Gerstner Sloan Kettering and it’s now an accept/deny offer page… has anyone else tried to see if their screen shows the same thing? Not sure if they just ported everyone over or if it’s official (haven’t gotten an email or call yet).

@HB1986
Mine is still normal.

@HB1986
Mine is an accept/deny page too. I’m really hoping it’s real. Mine’s been like this since yesterday, which is when their admissions committee met. It’d be pretty crappy if it isn’t real. I wish they’d get a move on sending the e-mails so I can stop being so crazy.

@ShidoDesu
Did you interview last week?

@phirah and @digioral
What program are you interviewing with this weekend? I’ll be at the Berkeley PMB interview.

@Microkel I worked in a PMB lab at Cal! What are you interested in?

also, my gerstner app page still says just ‘status: complete’

@microkel

I’m not going to Berkeley, I’m going to Johns Hopkins. But we’re both flying out of Boston, which is a) getting snow tomorrow afternoon, and b) getting snow right now, and c) getting snow every day for the rest of our lives apparently.

@digioral

I’m waiting to hear from UMass Med BBS, too! And I know their first weekend is next week, so I’m sort of upset. Not that I considered them a safety by any stretch of the imagination, but I figured I was an excellent candidate. Plus, if I got an interview at the University of Chicago, I figured I’d get an interview at UMass D:

@ngsfan

Thanks!
I have no idea if they’re done or not… The BU Bioinformatics open house is for applicants as well as already admitted students, and it’ll be held February 18-19. They asked to RSVP by February 2nd. That leaves another week or so for them to still invite people :)

I will contact Harvard at the end of the week. Apart from an interview invitation from UMass Medical School Biomed Sci back in December, I still haven’t heard from BC Biology, UML CS, Tufts CS, Tufts BioEng and Northeastern Biology.

Funny - I have actually already made up my mind about BU, but I can’t stop checking and wondering about the others!

ugh someone just got an interview invite from baylor on gradcafe, now i’m going to stare at my email all day.

@digioral

I applied to UMass Med School BBS program on Dec 28th, and a day later they emailed me asking to send them electronic copies of my transcripts I had sent via snailmail. The next day, I got an invitation to an interview weekend, which is Feb 3-5 or Feb 24-26. I don’t recall there being a RSVP deadline, so theoretically they may be still inviting applicants well into February.

If it’s any kind of good news to anyone… I will most likely be attending BU, so that spot can be considered free :)

@CompuBio

The BC website is weird - it still says “we are looking forward to reviewing your completed application”. I wish at least there was a spot where I could look for the decision. Grrr…

To anyone waiting to hear from Harvard Biostatistics.

I just re-read carefully the automatic response email you get when you email them with any questions. It says: “It is the policy of the Graduate School to notify applicants of their admissions status by written correspondence only. We are unable to answer requests for this information by phone or email.”

Good luck to all of us waiting for an envelope ;)

Hey, i just logged into my application webpage for GSK and it is accept/deny offer page. Really glad to see the official acceptance

Hello everyone! I just stumbled upon this site - looking back the past couple of pages I don’t see anything about CMU-Pitt’s Computational Biology program. I was just invited to an interview in February, which I’m super-excited about since this is my first choice. Is anyone else interested in this school?

@digioral

UCSD’s biological sciences sent out interviews early Jan. That’s when I got my invite. Sorry man.

@ Harvard Biostatistics

They actually wrote me back despite the little note at the end… they listed all received documents and said my application is complete and under review. I guess it’s not over yet!
