2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Yay! Accepted Mayo Graduate School-Neurobiology!

I haven’t heard from michigan either, and I interviewed Jan 27-29th. I know from the grad cafe that people have been getting accepted, but other people have posted that they haven’t heard anything as well. It is really frustrating not knowing what is going on and trying to keep your hopes up.

Hi immune,

yeah I’m an international applicant. They only sent the admission letter - no interview! Did you apply to the same program - Division of Basic Science?

Anybody heard from UVA (MII) and UPitt (IBGP)? Thanks!

Hey guys–

I’ve gotten accepted to a few places and would like to e-mail some graduate students at the different places to ask a few questions that I’ve thought of. Is it best to e-mail one of the head people at the program and request to get the e-mail of a student, or should I just blind e-mail somebody on the list of graduate students? Thanks!

Does anyone else feel weird writing thank-yous to faculty? Not that I don’t think I should do it. More that no matter how sincere I am, it SOUNDS like I’m just brown-nosing.

@11stargazers

I applied to UVA as well and have heard nothing.

Did anyone go to UCSF BMS interview last weekend? Have you heard back from them yet?

@whalo29
I finished interviewing at UCSD biological sciences yesterday, and they said the admissions committee is meeting Wednesday, and that we should hear after that.

Just curious - what’s the difference between UCSF BMS and UCSF Tetrad? Is it true that Tetrad is much harder to get into?

Does anyone know if Yale BBS (Immunobiology) has sent out acceptances yet, they taking longer than usual it seems that last year acceptances were out sooner

Applicants to UCSF BMS tend to be interested in immediately medically applicable/relevant research. TETRAD is often generalized as being “straight” or “pure” biology. TETRAD receives more applications.

hi.
I am an international student.

i applied to the cellular biology program at University of Georgia, Athens and interviewed via phone 3 weeks back. have not heard back from them. Do i e-mail the grad school and find out?
the ohter school where i got interviewed via skype (with a potential PI) was IUSM - IBMG program, that was a coupla days back.

How long do you think i wait before i e-mail and find out about their decision?

@phirah it depends on the conversations that you had in your interviews… i feel that most of my conversations were very natural and therefore the thank you letters come out really easily and without sounding weird

Now that the notification season is winding down… I have to say this forum has made the whole application process pretty comforting. Knowing everyone is dealing with the same stress and issues, even the rejections I received weren’t as bad for since I was “prepared”. That saying I think this is a great place to be “in the know” and will be sure to help out the next round of nervous grad school applicants!

Had my interviews at IUPUI (already in, they do PI interviews second) on Friday…that was interesting. Two were awesome and one I basically glazed over when he was talking about his research. I was supposed to have 5 interviews, but waited for two profs for over 15 minutes, later found out they figured I’d be late but oh well. I don’t think I’ll be attending despite the funding package. I have too many incentives to staying at IU.

@Soccergurl - congratulations!! was ur interview for the IBMG program.? If so , have u rcvd the acceptance letter after PI interview. I had my PI interview via Skype and waiting for a decision for the school. anxious…

I saw you got an immediate BU invite for ITP - I assume in the micro program and not pathology. Congrats on being a top pick. Can I ask if it’s likely you’ll take the offer? I was pretty bummed that they were interviewing so many people for 3 spots. I’m just feeling out precisely how out of luck I am.

To those who were at the Weill Cornell interview this weekend… What were your impressions?

@rabitstew

Sorry to hear than you have not heard from BU. I was surprise to hear so fast, I think they met on wednesday and I heard from them via phone on wednesday afternoon if I remember correctly. Yes I applied to ITP through micro.
I am waiting for some more schools before making a decision but u won’t take long hopefully by the end of this week and they told me to take my time but I know other people are waiting I will decide fast

I hope you hear from them soon

Take care
