2011 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

I do believe the website said the 2011-2012 contest starts September 15. Get ready everyone!

For those who have any inkling of an idea, if you’re doing the writing portfolio would it be better to send in as much as possible within the 50 page/ 8 story limit, or only send a story off it’s absolutely, superlatively perfect. I’d think it’d be the first one because it is supposed to be a portfolio, but from their winner’s (National Catalog) pdf it seems like a lot of the winning writers only sent in 2-4, unless those are just the selections they chose to publish, which I guess is possible. I’m just curious about the strategy, I guess.

I would think it’s to send off your super perfect ones. Quality>Quantity.

If you go back a page or so in this thread, you’ll find a link to some winning work. Some of it is amazingly good, but it comes in all varieties.

Oh man, I guess we should start a new one, huh?

@Hunt
I looked back and didn’t see anything or maybe I accidentally skipped over it. Do you think you could give me a link?

See Post 338 for links.

I wanted to enter with a idea for a painting in the art section but I might not be able to meet the deadline due to SAT and APs. Plus my parents are not exactly art enthusiasts and probably wouldn’t want to support me, so maybe next year I’ll enter (because of a more relaxed senior schedule)

Do any of you know whether a gold/silver key is considered national or state/regional on the common app? I listed mine as state/regional, but noticed that others listed the awards as national ones.

A key really should be regional, while a medal is national–except maybe for a key in novel writing.
