2011 UCLA Transfers: The Central Thread for Discussion and Decisions

wow seriously? ahhh! i reallly hope that mine got to them then ahha. did anyone go to the UCLA TAP orientation earlier this year and they had that writing a personal statement seminar?

Does UCLA accept student without IGETC in impacted major?

It is recommended to finish igetc and all prereqs for an impacted major

^^ Yes, primarily it is the numbers, but when you are boderline candidate (very close to their “cutoff or average”), then the only thing they have to differentiate the various candidates is the essay.

Besides, the essay is very important! Most people confuse essays and ECs (2 completely different things). ECs are not all that important. The essay essentially details your interest and such, as well as tells them under what circumstances you achieved your gpa.

For example (and this is ad verbatim what a UCLA admissions rep had told me last year at the STEM conference), someone getting a 3.5 gpa in super-hard courses, while working full time and having huge family responsibilities is not the same as someone with a 3.5 who takes super easy courses, sits at home and all they have to do is study 24/7.

Really? In Science major too?
I searched assist but couldn’t see for my major…lol I will finish 80 units in this spring…then my chance to get in “0” :frowning: .

^^ what is your major? You can see the average gpa for admits here:

Look at the transfer requirements on ucla’s web page

@victor5555 yeah definitely, I hear you. i definitely feel like I’m borderline. hopefully my essays were okay. thanks for your advice! if not then ucsb or usc it is! :)

socalgrl, the fact that you work and have a lot of volunteer work will be a big plus in your case, provided you found a good way to incorporate that in your essays.

yeah i did, hopefully it did the trick. man i wish they could see my grades now haha, oh well. decision’s already been made! whats meant to be will happen. thanks for all your help :)

My friend last year got into MCB major without IGETC, without TAP and missing 2 prerequisites with a GPA 3.6 which became 3.56 at end of the Spring 2010.

@Addayamaa99 Really? Did your friend had a lot of EC? or was his/her essay really great?

@la4ever - no I’m not doing summer. I might have been clicking the work study link. I’m not sure, I can’t check now cuz I’m on my phone. Don’t read into these random glitches, I’d only count on FA tracking.

I read his essay. In the #2 prompt he talked about how he took care of his grandma when she was ill and overcome the most difficult situation, “grandma’s death” after that.

ella, you’re right! I think we’re just getting carried away due to all the stress!..The FA tracking is the most reliable indicator since there is historical evidence from the past 2 years.

That makes me feel a little more relief, i have a GPA a little higher than 3.6 hopefully i get into UCLA and Cal as well. Too bad there is no place i can find the average GPA admitted for Molecular an cell biology for Cal.

@alvaroamorin: what is your major?

Hehe, nvm alvaroamorin i got my answer :)

Molecular cell biology is very competitive in cal. My friend didn’t get in to Cal but got in to UCLA.

Have you checked statfinder?

@ Ella where is that at?

What are the possible financial aid messages?
