2012 Elks MVS Scholarship

I believe emails went out today to all of the top 500 national finalists.

Does this mean its no longer possible to be a statewide winner either?

I am wondering the same – I got a letter saying that I moved on to the state level weeks ago, but I haven’t heard anything sense. I did not receive an email yesterday.

My D received an email last Friday notifying her she was a national finalist with instructions on the supplemental app. :)

After calling, I was told that if you haven’t heard back yet, then you didn’t move on. It sucks that I would’ve never heard anything if I didn’t call. Oh well.

received a state scholarship today in the mail, there is hope for those who didn’t move on to nationals!

Has anyone applied for the Elks MVS Scholarship? My D has submitted to the local lodge but not heard back from them.

I’m handing in my submission this week.

We’re not supposed to hear back for a couple months though, so what are you asking?

Other than the counselor’s report the application doesn’t ask for recommendations. Did anyone include a recommendation as an exhibit?

Casual Parent, I turned in a recommendation as an exhibit

ReadyCollege, I turned mine in just about an hour ago. The deadline is this Friday the 7th. From research, it seems like lodges judge at different speeds than others. You could possibly hear something by next week, or have to wait about a month. There’s no telling. Best of luck to everyone! I don’t care if only advance to district, I’m just praying for the local scholarship!!

I’m really hoping I can get something

Does anybody know how much financial need really plays into these scholarships on the local level?

jjonesjonny65 - Thanks!

Is it necessary for my son to be the one to turn in the application??!!! We are having a snow storm and we couldn’t safely go out tonight! I know it isn’t classy but I’d like to drop it off for him tomorrow. The other option would be for him to leave school on Friday. Any thoughts?

CasualParent, honestly I don’t think it would affect their chances. Yes it would look better if they turned it in, but you could always say something like “I wanted ______ to turn it in but this storm has got the best if us” idk, something along those lines. Don’t worry over it

Does anyone know if it’s acceptable to mail the application to your local lodge, or do you have to hand it in in person?

Thanks jjonesjonny65. I would hate for it to impact the chances given it took a long time for him to prepare everything. Good luck to you. Thanks for your help!

@bailey you have to take it there. im form Kansas too. which lodge is closest to you?

Crap… I don’t think I’ll be able to get there before they close tomorrow! Uggh!

I am closest to the Overland Park lodge.
