In NJ my daughter was notified via snail mail today that she did not move on from districts to state. Disappointing Good luck to everyone :)

Any word for WI?

I just got a letter saying I was moved on to the district, I believe.

I received a letter in the mail today notifying me that I was awarded 800$ but will not advance to national level. Grateful nonetheless. Btw, I’m from Southern California and the letter was postmarked February 8.

My D was notified by telephone today that she was a statewide winner and was moving on to Nationals. They told her to expect an email at the beginning of March with the link to the second application. She’s shocked. Since she hadn’t heard anything since delivering her app to our local Elks lodge, she had concluded they had moved on and she was no longer progressing to the next round.

DD got same letter. Not sure what the “association” level is. I’m assuming it’s the equivalent of “state”, but because HI and CA are combined, they don’t call it a “state.” Could be wrong, but the previous letters were from the lodge, then the district, so the only logical next step would be “state” level. Didn’t get beyond that, but $800 award is helpful. Was also told by lodge level that they would provide some type of award. Good luck to those who made it out of the state level and onto nationals!

D got a snail mail today from the Elks State rep saying that her application has been reviewed by the state judging committee and has been forwarded to the next level of judging. And then there is a Note: As a National Finalist you will be notified in late February 2013 by the Elks National Foundation. When you receive that letter to be eligile for an award, you will required to submit a secondary application online.
We are not sure if she is already a National Finalist or not. Does a National Finalist get any $$? Her older sister didn’t make it to State, but she received $2500 from the local branch. So I am hopeful, but confused.

Congratulations to your D, 345! I am NOT speaking from any base of knowledge or experience, but I think your daughter is now a national finalist based on the timeline. Given that not all states have finished picking state winners I think that they would not have time to cull apps twice in the kind of time frame that they gave you.

Roboloto, thanks. I do hope that she is a finalist and part of the 500 who will get some award.

Best of luck to her!

I finally received a letter in the mail from my lodge! Unfortunately I did not continue on AND the lodge said that they have insufficient funds to provide local scholarships
Oh well, best of luck to everyone! :D

I moved onto the national judging. Quite exciting!

Congrats iluvbooks! Did you hear via email, snail mail, or phone? I am still waiting…

I got a letter a couple of days ago.

i got a letter from state yesterday saying that my application has been forwarded to Chicago for national judging as a “finalist”.

Does anyone know if finalists are guaranteed scholarship money?

Yes. $4000! Congrats to you!

My son just got a letter today. He is on to the national level. We had just assumed he didn’t make it. We are very excited today

I am sure it varies by state, but does anybody know if you can be a state winner and move on to nationals? Or is it one or the other?

I haven’t read the whole thread, so apologies if my question has been answered already. The website states that “Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.” Does it mean that if you do not have financial need, you won’t be considered? Has any of you received the scholarship even though you were financially well-to-do?

I got an email inviting me to complete the second application today.
