2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

I sent in my final transcript days ago and sending my transcript is no longer in my “To Do” list, but there’s a message that states “Your application for transfer admission is complete except for the required 30 semester hours of transfer coursework.” Can anyone help? Sorry if this has been posted before, but I’m 100% sure all 33 of my hours are worth credit through the UT Automated Transfer Equivalency System.

Hi guys!

I’m going to apply as a transfer student during this upcoming fall and I was hoping someone could chance me. I messed up my freshman year and I’m really freaking out! Someone please hear me out.

1) Current College: Local community college
2) Current GPA: 3.615
3) First Choice Major/College: College of natural sciences-Nutritional sciences
5) Second Choice Major/College: COLA- Psychology
6) Transferable Credit Hours: 47
7)Extracurricular Activities/Recommendations/Essays: None

Classes I have taken:

(Fall 2012):
-Developmental math 0097: A
-Developmental math 0098: B
-Required class for freshman: B
-Computer Science 1301: A
-Developmental writing: C

(Spring 2013):
Biology 1406 for science majors): Dropped
English 1301: B
Psychology 2301: B
History 1301: C

So by the end of the year, my GPA will be a 3.0, but this summer I plan on taking 3 course and receiving an A in all three of them. Most likely history 1302 and the two government requirements. This will boost my GPA up to a 3.375. In the fall, I plan on taking 5 courses: Biology 1406 (the class I dropped), English 1302, college algebra, accounting, and statistics (these are all required for my major). If I get an A in all of these courses, it’ll bring my GPA up to a 3.615. So, my transcript will look like this:

(Fall 2012):
-Developmental math 0097: A
-Developmental math 0098: B
-Required class for freshman: B
-Computer Science 1301: A
-Developmental writing: C

(Spring 2013):
Biology 1406 for science majors): Dropped
English 1301: B
Psychology 2301: B
History 1301: C

(Fall 2013):
-Biology 1406: A
-English 1302: A
-College algebra: A
-Accounting ___: A
-Statistics: A

Overall GPA: 3.615

I haven’t joined any clubs or been in involved in extracurricular activities. Not now and not in high school. I’ve also never had a job. I plan on volunteering everyday this summer. So, do you think I have a chance? I’m really interested in the honors program for the nutrition program, but my qualification suck! Please tell me there is hope for me? I want to be a longhorn so badly! ):

ALSO-I am a Texas resident.

@averagejosh, the same thing has happened to me, I am going to call admissions tomorrow

Current College: Houston community college
Current GPA: 3.82
First Choice: College of Natural Science - Biology (entry level)
Second Choice: College of Liberal Arts - Psychology (BA)
Transferable Credit hours: 34 hours
Essays: Two required and one optional
Letter of Recommendation: From HCC Biology chairman; also an alumni from UT Austin

My dilemma is that I have not taken calculus, therefore I am not considered math ready for college of natural science. I’m hoping that my GPA and letter of recommendation will offset that.

Will UT calculate a new GPA for me that only accounts for the 34 transferable hours? I have two other courses (5 hours) that do not transfer. If you do not count those 5 hours into GPA, then my cumulative out of the 34 transferable hours would be slightly north of a 3.9.

@Chadling

Yeah, I’m thinking of calling tomorrow as well, and as for the courses that might not transfer for you I actually have no clue :/. I’m guessing if they won’t transfer it won’t be weighted towards your gpa, but don’t take my word for it. I’m just double checking, but if UT has a course equivalence in their ATES, than means they’ll count towards your credit hours right? I’m wondering because I started my math with pre-calc and if it doesn’t get counted I’ll have only 29 hours…

Dam dude, that sucks. I’ve used the ATES for all of my courses two times to make sure no errors were made. I don’t see why your precalc course would not get accepted, unless it is not in there ATES system? I started with remedial algebra for some apparent reason. That is one of the courses that does not count, but other than that my college algebra and trig classes do count.

I read a few pages back and another person had the same problem with the mystatus not updating to conform with the updated transcript. I think it may take a couple of days since many people are now finishing up that 30 hours and are also sending in their final transcript.

@Chadling

Yeah I just saw that, looks like it’ll get cleared up soon. I’ll make a call tomorrow just in case though, hopefully the decisions start to roll around in a week or two.

I posted a thread on class of 2016 and a current student said the decisions may not roll around until mid-June. Another one of my friends who transferred from University of Houston had a GPA of 3.6 and he is preparing to apply for McCombs.

A current friend of mine who is in McCombs currently keeps on saying I’ll be okay and that it is mostly GPA based. I don’t doubt that, but academically, this is a guy I trust. It’s just ironic that he has had more faith in my GPA more than myself LOL.

^ its true mccombs is gpa based.

@jpgarcia6 goodluck, im in helios house.

I really hope it’s not mid-June when we hear a decision. I need to know before I pay the money for a co-op or am forced to go to UTD.

im expecting the majority of the fall descions to roll around between May 20th - may 25thish & u DO NOT need to have take Calc 1 to be math ready…only need to have taken pre-cal or trig to be READY for calculus 1 if your accepted.

@Lanvinboy14, I’ll love you forever if you are correct LOL

The top of my mystatus page now says it’s in review! I believe it simply stated my application was complete yesterday. Hopefully that means I’ll get notification soon!

@jpgarcia6 when did you send in your final transcript?

Not too long ago at all. I believe I requested it Monday at midnight, it was sent to UT 12 hours later, and it was processed yesterday. It took a couple hours before my application said complete.

It says for me that my final transcript was received on 5/14. Hopefully mine will update during business hours today. It still says: “Your application for transfer admission is complete except for the required 30 semester hours of transfer coursework.”

That’s what it did for me at first. Just give it some time. It will correct itself.

FINALLY! My status says complete. So excited.

I submitted my final transcript last week because I was 3 credits short of 30 course hours, but I am on the edge of my seat everyday. One of my essays was great, but the other one was a last minute shot in the dark. I do not have a lot of volunteer activities either. However, I managed to pull of 5 A’s and 17 credit hours (with honors) this last semester. My GPA is now 3.92 (only one single B). I have almost every core class finished, along with all of calculus, but I have not even taken intro physics (my intended major) because my CC only offered algebra based physics.

Should I be worried?

You sound good other than the fact that you have 27 hours. Your GPA should make up for your essays.
