2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

Where are you supposed to check the transfer GPA that UT calculated for you?

@kbp7794, that is just speculation, no one knows if UT actually calculates a new GPA based on transferable courses only or do they just look at the GPA at the bottom of the transcript

as we all know, certain classes are not transferable, hence why i brought up the question if UT subtracts the grade points of the non-transferable courses

@chadling thanks a lot for the encouragement, I feel a lot more confident about getting into UT now. Thanks!

@kbp @chadling: UT calculates the GPA of transferable classes only, so if you get an A in a class that doesn’t transfer then it doesn’t count.

@dpayan7, I have to ask: how are you sure of this? I’m not trying to argue whether they do or do not but I’m genuinely curious because if that is the case then i go from a 3.82 to a 3.91

Chandling: I applied as an out of state student from California. Some of my classes that I got an A in didn’t end up counting because UT didn’t accept them as transferable courses, my UT GPA (according to my scholarship app) was also lower than my original community college GPA

I see, thank you

But at the end you started off at UT with no GPA right? It’s just during that transition phase that they count the “transferable GPA”?

Hey, guys and girls… A little worried about housing. I’ve heard of transfer students in previous years who submitted their housing apps in January and didn’t get anything more than supplemental housing. I’ve also heard that no on-campus housing was given to last year’s transfer students because the freshman/returning students all get priority and took the room. This year’s incoming freshman class is the largest incoming class to ever enter UT and that has me pretty convinced that we may all be screwed on housing… Not trying to worry you all, but does anyone have any reassuring information that I don’t know about?

I’m on the top of the ICC and Collegehouse’s coops waitlist so I’m not worried. Plus I have a cousin in Manor I can room with.

Well, I’m talking to those of us who were hoping to live on campus. It looks like it’s not gonna happen, and that’s something UT doesn’t tell us.

That’s part of the reason I didn’t even bother with applying for on campus housing. When I called housing they told me transfers are last on the priority list.

That’s the thing, though. Most people don’t know anything about that, and it’s not on UT’s website as far as I know. I’ve heard of transfers who applied for housing as early as January and didn’t get a contract until the middle of June. Then, when room assignments are released, the transfer students get offered supplemental housing or nothing and a number of transfers are panicking in July because they don’t know where they’re going to live. It’s an ugly process and I just wish UT would post something online like “WARNING: Transfer students may apply for on campus housing but priority goes to freshman and leftover housing for transfers is highly unlikely. It is wise to consider other options.”

@jpgarcia6 When did you apply for the coops?

Like the end of February or the week of March.

*first week of March.

How competitive to get in do y’all think electrical engineering is compared to the other engineering majors? I applied for Petro and for electrical but I know petro is one of the most, if not the most, competitive engineering to get in to.

My spring 2013 transcript with a 3.7 is finally on my status as of 5/20/13, hopefully i’ll get a decision any day now…

I’ve already waited a week and still nothing. I’m still in review. Hopefully by early June. The wait is killing me!

I just admitted today whoooooooooooooooo

I can’t even grammar right! SOO EXCITED!!
